Developed initally by a Mr. Edward Laverack, this breed was known as the Laverick Setter for a brief period. Originating in Great Britain in the 1800s, the English Setter is a working gundog and needs lots of exercise to stay healthy. The term 'setter' originates from the way the dogs 'set' (sit) after they have located game.
