This is the third (and likely final) piece of my Dina's Residential Care mod. As you’ve probably gathered from the other two modules, the goal of this mod is to reduce, as much as possible, the number of Sims the game generates when dealing with residential needs.

While I improved how the game handles apartment and dormitory residents, I realized that all child and younger NPCs would remain perpetually stuck in a kind of “homeless limbo.” All those poor creatures — if only there were a way to place them somewhere that made sense… and then it occurred to me.

In the base game, adoption does take into account children who were taken away by social workers in the past (the family instance known as the “Adoption Pool”), but all the other children generated by the game can never be adopted.

I wondered whether anyone had ever addressed this issue, and I came across this adoption mod by Chaavik. It was almost perfect! But of course, being the obsessive simmer that I am, I heavily tweaked it.

This mod is great because it lets you choose a Sim from a pool of adoptable Sims (townies and downtownies) and also adds the option to adopt teens. I modified some dialogue to preserve immersion (and to add an italian translation), and I expanded the pool of adoptable Sims so that it now includes ALL non-playable family instances (except the Default one, which only contains the New Year toddler and ghosts as underage Sims).

In normal gameplay, this means you can adopt Sims from:
  • Adoption pool
  • Townies
  • Downtownies
  • Service NPCs (Newspaper delivery and Cashiers are teens)
  • Tourist families
  • Island locals
  • Mountain locals
  • Asian locals

note: if for whatever reason your game generates other underage sims in places it shouldn't (like a hobby stalker or garden club family instances) you will still be able to adopt them.

If you don't like any of the sims available from the list, you can also choose to generate a new sim (you can pick their gender and skin color).
