In Windows you can drag-and-drop the file to the Downloads folder; or you can right-click on the file, select "Copy", then go to the Downloads, right-click in the window and select "Paste".

This is a stupid question, but does this REPLACE Maxis objects or ADD new custom objects?
What I mean is if I wanted to recolor the lawn flamingo, would the pink one be gone and be replaced by whatever I decide to change it to, or would a new one be there the color i changed it to in addition to the pink one? Thanks! |
No, no, if you follow this tutorial, your new recolour will be added to the available recolours! No Maxis stuff will be overwritten

Ok thank you. Now I have a question... the option Build DTX does not come up. It is on the menu, but it is grayed out. Any reason for this?
|
coolmare500, take a close look at the beginning of the tutorial. You will need to install the DDS Utilities and configure SimPE to see them (pointing SimPE to the folder where the utilities are installed).
|
it worked!. srry forgot to take picture. i wanna try recoloring the delorean if can still find it.
|
After starting the OW the main sections become visible (Appliances, Plumbing, etc), however on the bottom it says "loading objects" this takes FOREVER (about 6 minutes). Any ideas why? :-/
|
OW may take a long time to load, yes, although I think that, after you load it repeatedly, it's not as slow anymore as it was the first time.
|
Thanks IB
I have one more question if thats ok... I have my laptop open now to following this tut. It finished the loading objects stage but now seems to have frozen on "saving cache" is this common? I figure I will end this program and try again |
its still confuseing to me.
|
Madd Horse, you need to be a lot more specific about problems you're having, or it's going to be impossible to help you? What specifically do you find confusing about the tutorial?
SimsBaby01, I'm not sure what that problem could be. If you're still stuck, I would try going to Extra -> Preferences -> SimPE Settings and clicking Clear Cache, then restarting SimPE. |
SimsBaby, regarding the long time simPE takes to load the objects: if your Downloads are included in SimPE's file table, and you have a lot of downloads, SimPE will take ages to load all the objects.
Go to Extra -> Preferences -> File Table and be sure that the Downloads folder is NOT in the list or, if in the list, it is NOT checked. |
SimPe help plz
I was trying to make a recolor with SimPe and everything was going fine
![]() ![]() It was a lamp so it had to have more than one recolorable part so why was it empty... I even tryed waiting to see if it just need a while to load but nothing. Plz help me! |
This might have something to do with the fact that at least one lamp gets the texture for the shade by referencing another lamp.
|
Onyx_Raven, which lamp did you try to recolor?
|
I tryed recoloring the 4 by 4 designer chandelier in the tut.
Nevermind I got it. Thanks though |
i followed all the directions on the tutorial but when i went into the game my custom object was the same color as it started out
![]() thanks it worked and now i have my awesome recolor ![]() |
shortanddumb00, which object did you clone? Do you mean it has your new mesh but uses the textures from the original Maxis object? Sounds like the GUIDs in the MMATs didn't get updated. Copy the new main GUID number and paste it into the value field of the line called objectGUID in each MMAT (Material Override) in the package, commit and save.
|
OK! So I'm really new at this, I did a dining room chair and I checked both body and seat at once, I recoloured them but am now confused as how to get them to open up in one file, do I rename them similar things, do I just put both separate files into the download folder, please help!
|
What do you mean by "open up in one file"? They will both show up as separate options in the catalog, where you can mix and match them with others if you want. I don't think there is a way to automatically make them work as a pair, you will have to select each one separately from the catalog. But if you delete one of them in the game, both subsets will get deleted, since they are in the same package file.
|
Hi I tried all of this and I am finding that my objects are indeed not ending up in the game. I copied the packages into the download folder, is there anything you can think of that may be wrong, thankyou Toni>
|
You mean that you recolours are not showing up in your game, right?
Will you please post one of your faulty recolours here? We'll take a look and tell you where you made a mistake. Are you sure you have followed exactly the tutorial? |
You have to point SimPE to where you installed the utilities to. If you installed them to the default location, the path should be C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\NVIDIA DDS Utilities. In SimPE you have to go to Extra -> Preferences to set it.
|
yay it worked arigato! : D
|
I need a little help. In your tutorial you talked about The Nvidia DDS Utilities. I downloaded it and installed it. Now when I get the the last part when you click Build DXT the DDS Buidler comes up but when I click build I get what looks like a DOS black screen saying something for like a second then it all disapears. What am I doing wrong?? I am kinda new to this and need help if you can. Thanks.
