When you say "it all disappears" what disappears exactly? Does the texture get imported? The DDS Builder window and the black screen are supposed to disappear after the texture has been successfully imported.

going a little crazy

I have been recoloring someobjects for a project I am doing but for some reason I go to look at it in the preview it is all pixelated. It just looks nasty. I have tryied updated the maps and that didn't work. I did it manually and with the update all sizes button. Also after about 6 or 7 times of previewing the mmat I get a directx error. I have that installed, DDS is installed so what am I doing wrong here is a pic of the recolor I am trying to do. Thanks in advance
HighPriestessLitAngel Edit forgot to add I have Cep and they do look just as bad in the game |
My first impression is that the problem is NOT in the way you import the texture; it seems to me a bad UVmapping: a small portion of texture seems stretched over a wide area. The original object probably had a uniform colour, and the problem was not visible. I understand that you are not the creator of the object, so you should ask the creator to check the UVmap.
Obviously, my guess is based only on that screenshot: I may be wrong thinking that it's a UVmap problem. |

The texture is still there but nothing seems to have happened at all. http://www4.modthesims2.com:81/getimage.php?file=158524 In this picture it shows two boxes. I get one of those boxes and click build but I don't get the second box to save it. Am I supposed to get a second box? Maybe I'm just missing something. Sorry if I sounds dumb, just trying to understand more about it. |

loveblis, there won't be any separate window to save. The window just closes and the new texture appears. Does the texture change to yours or not? If not, what are the pixel dimensions of the texture you're trying to import?
|
hey how do you recolor custom objects?
|
It's mentioned in the tutorial. Instead of clicking Start when you open Object Workshop, you click Open.
|
oh ok thankz

HighPriestessLitAngel,
Just in case, have you tried the "build DXT..." as well? If it's the mapping problem, may try to use only monotonous texture for that part, and then add an environment map to add the pattern on the txmt file of the recolour... Also, you can also use the bump map (if supported) to add some white-black gradient pattern to the affected part as well. |
where can i get simpe objects workshop
|
Object Workshop is a tool built-in in SimPE, which you can find on SimPE site.
|
I can't click on the Build DXT button....
|
Agnez,
did you read the section "The Nvidia DDS Utilities" under "WHAT YOU NEED" (Right under the "Summary") in the beginning of the tutorial, and follow the instruction? I know it can be overwhelming... but just stay tuned and re-read again if not getting what you need in the first time... Good lucks... |
"Server Not Found" for "The Nvidia DDS Utilities"

I tried this for a custom object, but only the original texture shows up...
Do i need to enable color options on the original object? Or could it have anything to do with the check boxes i checked when cloning the original object? |
kakarot12300, what checkboxes did you have selected when you cloned the original? Normally, the clones are automatically recolorable if you have the CEP properly installed (you don't need to do anything about the CEP at the moment of cloning, it just needs to be there in the background, installed properly). My guess is that the MMATs were not properly updated for your new main GUID. Open the MMATs and see what's the value for the line called objectGUID. Is it still a Maxis GUID, or yours? And is it your new main GUID?

Great tutorial! But I have one question...
I did, or I think I did, exacly like the tutorial said but still my recolor won't appear in my game. Do you know why? Would be nice to know =) |
Question...
... I'm new at object recoloring and the first I made went well but now I got a strange problem when I try to recolor something : I do everything as the tutorial says, but when I click on "start" to have the window to choose what to recolor, nothing appear. There is just a grew window with the "autoselect matching textures" option at the bottom. It does this for everything but one week ago I had no trouble for that... I got the latest CEP and SimPE but I work with these since many weeks so it should not be the problem...
|
I'm sorry, but I never heard of such a problem...
Please answer to these questions: 1) In step 2, after the object list has loaded, can you see a complete list? I don't want you to count the objects listed, but do you think that the list is somewhat incomplete, or objects are missing? 2) You say this happens "for everything"; have you tried many different types of objects (just to be sure that "everything" does not mean "all the table lamps" or such ![]() 3) Are you trying to recolour Maxis objects, right? |
1) the list seems as complete as the day I've been able to create normally a recolor...
2) I tried many type of objects, not every type, but some. Though the oven "ciao time "mondo fuego..." doesn't make appear the grey window but in the list I just have two "material override". For some objects also it's the same. 3) I just recolor Maxis objects Could it be something I downloaded that does this? |
I can't imagine anything from your Downloads folder that can cause such a problem.
Try checking SimPE's file list: select the menu Extra -> Preferences and choose the "File Table" icon. At the top of the window, be sure that the base game, the CEP and all the EP you own are checked. If you change something in this window, you'd better restart SimPe once finished modifying the options. Still in the Preferences, select the "System Check" icon and click "Run check" (this is to ensure that the main modules of SimPE are correctly installed). Lastly, select the "SimPE settings" icon and click "Clear cache". Then restart SimPE. |
About the system check : for the first thing it says : Folder for "The Sims 2 - University" was not found.
Unable to locate "TSBin\Sims2EP1.exe"." but I don't even have this expansion and I uncheck the box in the file table for this one. (dunno if it changes something to uncheck it?) but anyway, the object workshop works well now, by clearing the cache SimPE was able to find the Texturedata that it didn't find in the system check... thank you very much ! |
