Beauty and the Beast - 9/10
I'm not talking about the Disney classic, but a black and white movie from 1946. I was browsing on Rotten Tomatoes and they said it was one of the best movies of all times so yesterday I gave it a try. It was SOOOOO good! The story is very different from the cartoon, especially at the end, but it's visually beautiful. I can't believe it's almost 70 years old. The "special effects" are outstanding and so is the make up of the beast. It's very romantic and nostalgic. Recommended for every old Hollywood fan, even though it's a French movie. |
Return to halloween town -10000/10

Divergent - 7/10
I'm a bit biased as I'm a sucker for the YA sci-fi/fantasy genre in general. I'm trying really hard not to compare the movie too much to the book, doing so would lower the rating drastically. If looking at it as if it was a standalone movie, it's actually pretty good, and well above my expectations. I'd say it's better than the average movie, with (quite a lot of) room for improvement. One thing that annoyed me, (again trying really hard not to compare the movie to the book), is that the relationships feel hollow, both friendships and the "love story". It's unconvincing who's friend or foe, why, and how these relationships help develop the main characters. |

I saw the movie and didn't really like it as compared to the book. They left out so much of the grittiness, the raw emotion and dark intensity of the book. A lot of the violence was left out too, and you're right, the relationships between the characters fell flat. All the initiates blended together; even though I'd read the book--twice--I couldn't tell who was who. The last movie I saw was The Perks of Being a Wallflower and I'll give it an 8/10. I really liked it, and I think it benefited a lot from being written and directed by Stephen Chbosky. It still wasn't quite as good as the book but it was very good. |
Noah - 0/10
I totally hated every second of the movie. Since they obviously wanted to tell an environmental story, they should have based it off some other story than the biblical Noah. So, from a biblical point of view, hollywood failed miserably in telling the story of Noah. But i'm not surprised because i didn't really expect hollywood to know what to do with the bible in any way, shape or form. They couldn't get it right even if they really wanted to. Unless of course, like Mel Gibson they would study and pray for 10 years over the biblical story they want to tell, then there might be a possibility. And from a personal perspective, if it wasn't for family members pressuring me to see the movie, i'd have never watched it. Aside from all that, i lost a little respect for Russell Crowe for taking on the part in the first place. He just seemed like such a mindless puppet in the movie. |
How to Train Your Dragon (2010) - 5/10

The Guest (2014) - 8/10. Better than expected. Felt pretty retro, like a 70's/80's thriller. Entertaining throughout.

Chronicle - 2012 - Sci-Fi
8/10 - My kind of movie, had my attention from start to finish. Great characters. |
The Giver - 8/10
Admittedly I don't remember much from the book but I enjoyed the movie. I really liked how it was black and white until Jonas started seeing color and then color was gradually incorporated. During one of the last parts I almost started crying too, which is rare for me because I've never cried over a book or film. I think because it spoke to the human experience as a whole I got pretty emotional. |
They live - 6.5/10
The film has a great message, but it's riddled with hammy acting and stupid one-liners. Intentional or not, I'm really not a fan of that kind of stuff. But I still liked it overall. Legend of the Leprechaun - 5/10 Watched it with a friend. It's a really stupid and silly movies, the plot is all over the place and the effects are laughable. But we still had a ton of fun watching it. The music is pretty great too. I'd recommend this one for watching with friends. |
Wild Cherry (2009) - 5/10
quite a funny film. Obvious Child (2014) - 7/10 This film was so good and it was very true to life and used actors that look like normal people. Soldier's Girl (2003) - 6/10 So good I cried,it is based on a true story which makes it more upsetting. The Babymakers (2012) - 2/10 quite boring, all the best bits where in the trailer. Ashley (2013) - 3/10 took awhile to get into it and you have to kind of figure out the main actor to understand the film. King Ralph (1991) - 5/10 The only reason I watched this film was because my old dance teacher is dancing in it.its an average film and would not have watched it if he was not in it. Sin City (2005) - 5/10 I really like this film but I am not a fan of long films but I wanna see the next one. |
Schindler's List - 10/10
2nd Favorite movie of all time. Cried like a little girl throughout it, even though it was my 6th time seeing it. ![]() Liam Neeson + Ralph Fiennes + Holocaust (my favorite thing to study) + B&W + Everything else = asdfghjkl great movie. It's just incredibly well done, well acted, etc. It's a tragic event done in such a dramatic, emotional way. When I tell people that this is one of my favorite movies, I always get strange looks. How can something so distressing and evil be your favorite? It's hard to explain. If you've ever seen Schindler's List, you might understand what I mean. It's so beautifully accurate and made, it's good. It's moving, it makes you reflect, it makes you think. If you haven't seen it, PLEASE DO. It will shed some light on both the Holocaust and the life of Oskar Schindler. Anyways, I feel like I'm rambling now. ![]() |
Who Is Dayani Cristal?
8/10 A Mexican made documentary, mostly in Spanish, about people who are trying to cross the southern US border. It centers around this man whose body was found in the desert and who has tattoos that say Dayani Cristal. It also interweaves information about illegal immigrants in general and the process that happens once their bodies are found. It really opened my eyes to how much people suffer and are willing to risk to come to the US, whereas I was just born here without doing anything. It was really depressing but moving and had an important message. The end was really heartbreaking and put a human face to illegal immigrants who can try so hard but ultimately fail to even get here. For me personally, I already knew in an abstract way about it but it really made me think more about it. |
I'm in the middle of watching a Star Trek movie - the second one of the prequels and it's just a lot of music, action, and over acting. I really loved the first prequel. This one, not so much. I admit to dozing off for a bit, but still.....just a lot of nonsense and melodrama.

Begin Again (2013) - 5/10
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) - 5/10 Truth or Dare (2012) - 3/10 Sex Tape (2014) - 3/10 Blue Gate Crossing (2002) - 5/10 The Devil's Rejects (2005) - 5/10 Maleficent (2014) - 7/10 Black Nativity (2013) - 2/10 |
The Two Faces of January - 2014 - Thriller - 7/10
An old fashioned thriller - great locations - love the actors (Viggo Mortensen, Kirsten Dunst, Oscar Isaac) - the usual suspects, i.e. con men and grifters, but I enjoyed it. |
Berberian Sound Studio - Psychological Thriller? - 2012 - 6/10
It takes place in the 1970s and it's about an English sound engineer/mixer who goes to Italy to work on a film that turns out to be a weird horror movie called The Equestrian Vortex. The main character, Gilderoy, is played by Toby Jones who I love. The film stops making sense at some point and it's not scary, but it was okay, so I gave it a 6. |
Karate Kid 3
7 out of 10 Not as good as the original karate Kid R.I.P Pat Morita (actor who played Mr Miyagi) Did you know that Pat Morita Has an American accent in real life |
Compliance
I don't know what to rate this one. It was a very good movie, but I didn't enjoy it at all. I'd still recommend it though. |
^ Ya , I totally agree. Saw it about a year ago and it's depressing as hell and simultaneously outstanding. Amazing it's based on a true story. According to IMDB the budget for the whole flick was $270,000. I talked about it with friends , none of whom had seen it , and it stayed with me for awhile. I'm always impressed when a film with a virtually non existent budget has an impact , in any genre.
Random stuff I saw long ago and again recently... The Brothers McMullen a drama, rom com , that explores family, faith and fidelity. Made in 1995 and might be a little dated to some. A budget of $25,000 and to me it's as good or better than any similar genre film produced by big budget Hollywood in the last 20 years. Barry's banana quote is an incredible bit of writing. 8.5/10 Winter's Bone and The Poker House , two early Jennifer Lawrence films that really show her acting chops. Both bleak , with maybe just a ray of sunshine on the distant horizon. I know she's doing all the popular money making movie series right now , but I really hope she'll continue to occasionally take projects that are outside of the mainstream. She won an Oscar for Silver Linings Playbook and , to me , she's far superior in her roles in each of these movies. Not even close. 9.5/10 for Winter's Bone and 8/10 for The Poker House. The Station Agent with Peter Dinklage. He's even better when he's not wearing armor. Great cast , great writing. Explores friendship, self imposed isolation and tolerance. Bobby Cannavale as one of the most memorable , annoying , clueless and lovable characters ever. Leaves you wanting more , in a good way, 10/10 |
Titanic (1997)
10/10 you may not agree with the score i gave the film Titanic. it's one of my favorite films because of the love story in the movie. even though the love story in the movie was friction the film is still very good. if Rose and Jack were played by different actors i don't think the film would have been as good. |
Scream 1/10
Horrible acting, shitty writing, terrible soundtrack, most of it made no fucking sense, and extremely overrated. I wouldn't make my worst enemy watch this, I can't even begin to imagine how horrible the sequels are. |
