Polar Express
8/10 I enjoy watching this film but I just don't find it as amazing as lots of people find it. |
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
(Spoilerized for those who haven't seen it yet) |
@ Zarathustra
I wanted to write about The Battle of Five Armies as well, and while I'm a bit disappointed with the film, I wouldn't go as far as 2/10. Although... I haven't read the book, so that's probably why, however I understand why you might be so harsh... If someone made a crap out of 'my' book, say... Hyperion Cantos I would go mental too. As for the film itself, I found it a bit boring, the setup for the battle wasn't really that clear, and some moments felt just... wrong. More in the spoiler: So there we go. The film is a bit of mindless fun, but not something overly impressive. Desalination of Smaug was IMO better. Therefore The Battle of Five Armies will get 5/10 from me. EDIT: Billy Connolly was fun thought ![]() |
Bean: The Ultimate Disaster Movie: 6/10
I've watched this film twice and both times it was with my mum. It's a really silly film, featuring the beloved Mr. Bean. My mum and I do have a good laugh together when we watch it ![]() ![]() Thumbelina: 9/10 This was my favourite film as a child and I still love it now. I have loved this film since the first time I watched it, which was probably when I was around 5-6. If you enjoy the Disney classic films, such as The Little Mermaid etc, I recommend watching this. It features the same voice actress (Jodi Benson) from The Little Mermaid and is a really lovely film with lots of singing. I don't think I'll ever grow out of it. This is my favourite scene, for anyone who wants a sneak peak: |
Serena 7/10
Despite in movie there are 2 famous actors - Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, the film at some moments quite boring. But I liked the end and Jennifer Lawrence acting. |

Force Majeure - 8/10 - Drama?
A family ski vacation turns into a family psychodrama. |
It's A Wonderful Life - 9/10, a classic film that sends a good message. Don't you just wish something like that would happen to everyone who wanted to take their life away? Plus, it's a family tradition where we watch that movie while setting up the tree. I just watched it in color for the first time in my life - a little weird, but I could adjust. All in all, a purely fantastic film.
Also, Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street were named after the characters in this film. |
Big Hero Six - Hard to rate...it's going to be compared to HTTYD2 because they'll be competing for the same awards. It's a close call, both movies are amazing, too bad they were both done in the same year. The colors and animation were amazing and rich and the story was also very good. So....8.5? 9.0? Hard call. It played like a video game and it's guaranteed it will become either a movie and tv series and a video game. Even the music supported the action that way, it was like watching a Smash Brothers at times. The robot hero was adorable - absolutely loveable and little kiddos are going to completely relate to him (as are all the kiddos in grown-up bodies). It really will be a close call with HTTYD2, but given that it's Disney and there's all sorts of bias towards Disney and Pixar (just look at the brand loyalty discussed on this page), it will probably win the Oscar.

The Tale of Princess Kaguya - 8/10. It was really sweet and I enjoyed it. I liked all the historical aspects of feudal (?) Japan too. It was kind of sad, though, at the same time. A bit melancholic, like Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales, which I like: it had that blend of appreciating the beauty and the pain of life, and experiencing the consequences of choices made. All in all, it was quite lovely. :lovestruc

For French we need to watch a movie and read a book, so that during the exam we can choose which to write a lovely essay on. La Haine is one of the best movies I've seen, definitely a 10/10. Dat cliffhanger doe! Its a pretty cool ending

Jack and the beanstalk (2010) - 3/10
Let's be cops (2014) - 4/10 The Boxtrolls (2014) -6/10 Among friends (2012) - 5/10 Step up all in (2014) - 4/10 The virgin Suicides (1999) - 2/10 Dolphin tale 2 (2014) - 2/10 the maze runner (2014) - 7/10 Santa jr (2002) - 4/10 Life partners (2014) - 5/10 Life after Beth (2014) 3/10 |
Pompeii (2014) - 5/10

The Lego Movie 7.5/10 - Very cute and mostly enjoyable. There were some very funny moments in this piece and the animation was great. It was hysterical watching Lego figures try to do various things and the film took a humorous approach to things like Lego figures holding hands. The down side of the movie is there's too much action and a lot of repetitiveness. The wrap up at the end is very sweet. All in all, a very solid kid's movie and recommended.
Turtles Can Fly Depressing, yet insightful, moving, and meaningful. This tells the story of the children of a village on the border of Iraq and Turkey who find ways to survive around the time of the Iraq/Iran War. It's heartbreaking. The actors are real kids recruited for the film. Highly recommended 9/10 |
Ray - 10/10 Damn that was a good movie. Tells the story of how Ray Charles got a bit too involved with his music career...
Hit the road, Jack. And don't you come back no more no more no more no more hit the road, Jack. And don't you come back no more. Seriously I love this guy's music. |
In Your Eyes 3/10 I'm sad to say, this was a huge disappointment. The idea had a lot of potential and it was written by Joss Whedon. Truly dull.

Exodus: gods and kings - 7/10
|
The Village I'm not sure how to rate this. Seriously. I can't decide if it's a good movie or if it's crap. I've actually seen it twice. I couldn't remember if it was the film I had seen or not when I read the description on Netflix, and then I got caught up in watching it. The first time around, I was hugely disappointed in the final reveal, but this time, knowing how it ends, I actually appreciated it more. But, I can't rate it. It's somewhere between a 5 and 6 out of 10. Yeah, let's go with that. 5 or 6/10.

Brother Bear - 8/10
It's a good family movie. I hadn't seen it since it first came out and I liked it this time around too. |
01/01: Inside Man- 8/10
Generally movies with Denzel Washingtonare too serious, however this one was fun! Also, if there's gonna be a bankrobbery, the movie is usually fun,no? 02/01: Streetdance2- 5/10 So cringe worthy, my face hurt by the end of it. The people definitely have dancing skills though :D |
Ok,
Yesterday I saw a film known as... My god... That has to be the stupidest, most inconsistent, least engaging film ever made (and I saw U-571). I can't even point what is so bad here, as I would have to describe the entire movie. I have too much rspect for my keyboard to waste it on describing this piece of crap. And what is Liam Neeson doing here? Has someone kidnapped his family and, as a ransom, demanded that he starred is this film? Avoid. 0/10 (and that's because I don't think I can do negative numbers) Also, I heared, and apparently there is a kind of big deal, that someone called Ri Hanna stars here as well. No idea who that is, but that cant be a good actor/actress as everyone in this film was acting like a poo. |
Waiting For Forever - Netflix - Romantic comedy
9/10 I was impressed with this movie! I was so inspired by the love. :lovestruc |
The Breakfast Club - 7/10
It was good, but it wasn't completely amazing like some people said it was. I did like the message though. The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones - 3/10 I'd already seen this twice before, both times about a year ago. The first time I watched it I liked it okay, the second time not so much, and this time I really didn't. They just changed so many things from the book that they shouldn't have. Things wrong with the movie: There's probably some stuff I'm forgetting, but that's already way too many things wrong. Apparently it could be a TV series as well, which they'll probably also ruin entirely! Not to be overly cynical but I wish they would've at least read the book or tried a little. |
Cast Away - 9/10
I'd seen this when it first came out (my Spanish teacher at the time kept insisting that every single person on Earth must see this film...), but was obviously not old enough to really appreciate it at that point, since while I didn't find anything wrong with it per se, it certainly didn't grab me either. Rewatching it thanks to it appearing atop my Netflix recommendations was a whole other ball game- wow! Tom Hanks may get made fun of a fair big, and he's certainly had some weaker moments in his career (I'm still bitter about The Polar Express), but his acting in this movie was phenomenal! Even more impressive, given that for most of it, he is literally the only person there- he doesn't have another character to bounce off of or fall back on. The idea that a man can be shouting, utterly destroyed over failing to save the life of his only friend, and having that friend be a volleyball, seems like it would be utterly impossible to realize in any kind of serious way, yet Hanks managed to make it not only believable, but downright tragic! Really, the whole Wilson arc was pretty remarkable, after having spent so much time in some of my Political Science classes at university discussing man as a social animal, and the idea that without social interaction, there is nothing of humanity or of the "divine spark" that can be seen. Talking to Wilson as if he were real isn't a sign that Hanks' character is going crazy- it's the only thing keeping him sane! Overall, a very well done character study... something that's becoming all too rare in modern cinema. |
Astro Boy
8/10 I was flicking though the channels and saw that this film was on so I decided to watch the film, it was the first time I watched the whole film which was better than I thought it would be. my dad got given the film a few years ago but the disk was so scratched that it would only work for about 30 mins and then the film would just freeze, me and my dad could never get it to work. |
