recolouring?
Hi ive read through your thread, but im kindoff confused? im wondering how to recolour and object (ie: recolour a table or light or car) but it does not explain how to actually recoulour the object? sorry if im a pain! im just wondring!
|
TheSims2Maniac,
Just treat the table as if the given example in the tutorial. The basic TS2 re-colouring is just simply to 1. create a recolour package 2. export the texture out 3. edit the texture (lol, find some photoshop tutorials probably through "google"?) 4. import the texture back into the recolour package by the DDS tool. 5. commit and save and ensure your recolour package is in the downloads folder somewhere. 6. run the game to choose the recolour you've made for your selected object. Yet, there're some MAxis objects are still not recolourable and check out the CEP documentation. |
thank you,
|
Tyvm!! "I did IT!!" You are the
![]() .... Now onto meshing :lovestruc Gracie |
I'm having trouble with this step "When you have edited and saved the texture, it's time to import it back into SimPE.
Right-click on the image and choose Build DXT." When I right click on the image the 'choose Build DXT' is not avaible to click on. Am I missing software? What am I doing wrong? Could someone please message me and let me know how I can work this program? Thank you. |
Huh...Not showin' up in the game. Musta screwed up somewhere. But thanks so much for this tutorial! Whew! At least I can try now lol I had no idea what to do before this ^^

kristiwithak,
May ensure the following, extracted from the turoial, has been done. Lol, just in case "The Nvidia DDS Utilities: get them from this page and install them, just like any Windows program; then, start SimPE, select the menu Extra / Preferences and fill in the field "Nvidia DDS Tools" with the exact installation path (you can use the "Browse" button to easier find the exact folder where the DDS Utilities are installed" |
It looks like there is a pretty huge discussion up there, so I'm gonna just ask without checking to see if anyone has had this problem also, because it's 2 much 2 read and I doubt they've had this issue, because I my PC is notorious for having issues that no one else ever gets. So here goes: I run SimPE, and go to object workshop, then I hit Start, and the list of object types (Ex: lighting, hobbies, rewards, etc.etc.), but I can't expand any of the menus, or do anything else within the Object Workshop window in SimPE, I'm at a loss, because I've done everything Numenor said 2 do. I'm not saying he's wrong, because obviously he's right, or else allot less people would be publishing objects, but I just really want to know if anyone knows the answer to my problem.
BTW: is this the right place to post this question? -PhiniusMaster, a MTS2 n00b. |
Phinius, it sounds similar to an SimPe error I reported to Quaxi - which version of SimPe do you have installed and which EPs do you have/ do you have enabled in the file table? Try the following, please: run your SimPe, choose Extras -> Settings and there the File Table and play around: load and unload severl EPs (don't forget to re-load the file table and restart SimPe afterwards before you try to run OW)... what happens? I'm curious about your result!
To your BTW: no, not really :D |
thanks Khaibit, I'll play around with the options and see what I can do! BTW, I have Version 0.60.1.16885.
It Worked |
I've read through the whole thread to make sure this problem wasn't already solved. Someone did have a similar problem, but the issue was that they were using non-recolorable objects, which I'm not. So...
When trying to recolor certain wall hangings (Two Dogs and an Olive and Cantankerous Splatters, to be exact), nothing appears in the Resource Tree except AllRes (0). No Material Definition, Material Override, or Texture Image. Also, instead of the OW window reading "Object was created and loaded," it only reads "Object was created." Someone else tested recoloring these paintings on their computer, and it worked for them. I'm able to recolor other paintings just fine. I do have CEP installed, and SimPE is pointed to my NVIDIA DDS. Is there any other reason this is happening? Could it be a bug with my program? I just installed the latest versions of SimPE and CEP the other day to try recoloring for the first time; should I reinstall them both anyway? Thanks for your help! ETA: I've just been trying some more, and found that That Place Over There, An Anonymous Masterpiece, and Reprint Serial #S-COPU4 also aren't working. |
thirteenthdancer,
I don't know about the tech-thingy, but I had accidentally move the CEP package to a sub-directory of downloads folder from the downloads folder , and that enervated my recolouring process for some Maxis recolours. Interestingly, I could recolour some but not other some. So, may ensure it's not that case either. |
After the recolour package is created, nothing happened!!!
nothing opened to edit. What should I do? What did I do wrong?? |
OK, I've read over all @.@ of the posts and I am pretty sure no one else has mentioned my problem exactly... Couple were close though.
I wanted to recolor the solice set from reflex (which is recolorable, or at least they claim it is). followed the directions to the T, and recoloured all of the pieces that I was planning (sofa, loveseat, chair, and coffee table). When I started up the game the first time, none of my textures appeared. The only thing there was the orginal texture I downloaded from reflex (yes the recolors were in my DL folder). So I went back and redid all the files, second time I loaded the game... 2 peices had 1 recolour (bear in mind that I had made 10 recolors for EACH piece) only the sofa and coffee table. Each one had 1 recolor that showed up (just lucky that they matched) ![]() So I went back and decided to remake the loveseat over again, to see if renaming the files would help. I did all 10 recolors, and when I loaded bodyshop, 1 of them showed up (sorry no pic for that one). Why arn't ALL my recolors showing up? I am not doing anything differently :'( |
This may happen if you - by chance - have created a recolour package and then you cloned it in order to easily make additional recolours.
I should take a look at the original set and to some of your faulty recolours to know exactly what happened. In any case, here are some checks you can do by yourself: 1) Examine the MMAT of each recolour package: it must contain the GUID of the object you are recolouring, and a different "family" number 2) the TXMTs of the various recolours must have each a unique name 3) If in the same recolour package there are multiple MMATs, they must have different Instance numbers. One last thing: sometimes the sets use the "repository" tecnique, i.e. there is ONE object that contain all the textures (and all the other objects are "slave" of the Repository one). If you try to recolour a "slave" object, the recolour might not work properly. For example, all the Maxis loveseats are slaves of the corresponding sofa. Perhaps the set uses the Repository tecnique? |
How can I check to see if it's repository or not?
Also, I think that with the sofa, table and loveseat, I will remake my recolor packages without cloning (you should mention in the tut that you can't do that) ![]() |
When I tried to change the texture of the picture I was recoloring, I couldnt, whats up?
|
DourSim - I've downloaded the Solice set to check it and I've read this message: "Colorenabled fixed! (Thanks to the Forum)". Perhaps you tried to recolour the old version, that had recolouring problems?
As for your other question, you can know if a custom object is autonomously recolourable by opening the package in SimPE: if you can see one or more MMAT files, it should be autonomusli recolourable. To be 100% sure, check also the GMND: if it does NOT have a block named "tsMaterialsMEshName", then it is autonomously recolourable. Hellz - Exactly, what step can't you perform? The one where you have to click the menu "Build DXT"? |
I'm at the very begining of step three, when I select the texture thing I want to edit I cant export it (I'm pretty sure thats whats up)
|
Why can't you export it? The button doesn't work? Is it grayed out?
|
It just isnt there.
|
Mmmhhh... Be sure that the SimPE window is maximized, and then please post here a screenshot, because I've never heard about missing buttons.
Apart from the button, the screen is similar to the one shown in the tutorial picture? Are there any other missing elements? What screen resolution are you using? |

Sorry if this is already answered in here... I don't want to skim over a dozen plus pages for it ( After I save the file, it dosent seem to open anything. I open the file in the menu, and it shows up in the title bar, but I'm not getting anything. The resource tree dosen't have anything in it (except AllRes (0) ) and the plugin view is blank too. Any ideas? Or am I missing something really obvious? I can provide a screensheet if needed... (Edit: btw, my version is .60 ) |
Sae sae,
Is that object enabled to be recolourable according to the CEP documentation? Lol, just in case...l |
Sae^2 :D
maybe you picked a slave object up for recoloring? If so you'd need to try the repository object out :D If both doesn't work the clone template might be useful to know, maybe it's casued by SimPe adjustments... did you try marking the textures you wanted? (to be honest, never used this tuto for recoloring stuff, did it myself... :D) Niol, another option you didn't think of (see my edit in 7z - you're a bad donator ![]() |
