Hi,
I've got a problem and I hope you can help me. I'd like to make posters. Actually was my plan to clone a wallpainting and then change it and save it. I know it was possible, because a long time ago, I cloned a object too and that works. But now if I clone an object, that object has gone and you see a 'object' with a strange picture. You see 'no pic' and if you click at it, you can't use it. When I delete it, is the normal object back. So my second plan was, just to recolor the wallpainting. But that didn't work too, because the wallpainting, doesn't have recolors. I can only recolor object which has recolors. So can anybody tell me I did wrong? I did the same thing as in the tutorial. Sorry for my English, it isn't my first language. |
Dea,
http://simpeforum.ambertation.de/forum/viewforum/5 _-Rowena-_, May ask the author if wall-painting is recolourable. If not, may ask the author to make it recolourable. |
It isn't a downloaded mesh
![]() And with wallpainting I mean decoration you can hang on the wall by the way ![]() |
Which painting is it, could you post a picture of the original or its name? Have you tried reinstalling the CEP?
|
The painting called Olive Peynter's City SkyScape
http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/6590/paintingxs9.png This painting doesn't have Maxis recolors. I haven't tried yet to uninstall CEP, I will try that. And one more question, can you recolor downloaded objects? I can't find them in the Object Workshop. ![]() |
In order to recolour downloaded object, you can follow this tutorial; but when the tutorial suggests to click "Start" (so to load the objects list), you should click "Open..." instead, and browse to the object you downloaded.
Of course, in order to recolour the downloaded object, this object must be made recolourable by the creator; if you open it with Object Workshop and it creates an empty recolour package, then the object is not recolourable, and there is nothing to do to fix it, beside asking the creator to make it recolourable (the CEP doesn't help in this case, because it doesn't apply to downloaded objects). |
But how does that work? I know the object is recolourable, because the download has also recolours. If I open it and change the texture, in the game you see as small picture the old texture and if you put the object in your house, you see the new texture.
And I don't see any downloads in the Object Workshop. |
Rowena, please, read Numenor's instructions carefully. Custom objects don't show up in the list in Object Workshop, you have to open them individually with the Open button from where ever you have them located. You open the mesh package and create a new recolor for that, you don't edit the texture in the original mesh package.
|
But how do you create a new recolor? I'm sorry, I don't know a lot about SimPE.
|
It is all explained in the tutorial. The only difference between Maxis and custom object recolors is that with custom objects you click the Open button and browse to the object on your computer instead of picking it from the list in Object Workshop. Everything else works just like with Maxis objects.
|
Thanks, but if I open the painting, I can't see the option to recolor it, which I can see if I recolor a Maxis object.
I see what you see after you choose if you want to clone or recolor the object. So where can you get that option back? |
You have to open the painting through Object Workshop and the Open button there to get the recolor option. Don't open the file directly in SimPE, start up Object Workshop and then click the Open button in the Object Workshop window.
|
Thank you, it finally worked
![]() |
If they are color-enabled by the CEP, you can.
|
How can you see it's color-enabled?

_-Rowena-_,
The answer is in the "(OPTIONAL)_CEP_Documentation.zip" thru this link http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=92541 |

I recolored an object using this tutorial, it works and everything. However, in-game the tooltip for the recolor isn't updating. Did I miss something in the tutorial? Or is there something more sinister going on? :P

Just delete all the thumbnail temp. files @
...\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Thumbnails Re-run the game, voila. |
Hi,
I downloaded that cep documation, but I see pdf-files and my computer doesn't know that files. Can anybody tell me what I have to do to read pdf files, because I see them a lot, and I can't use it. Thanks! |
The Foxit Reader is free and you can get it here http://www.foxitsoftware.com/downloads/
|
I hope I don't ask too much, but can you clone objects? If I clone an object, the real object is gone and there's a new 'object' with 'no pic' and you can't put it in your home.
|
You can clone objects but there are a lot of steps to that, including getting new GUID(s) so that the new clone doesn't replace the original. You can find an object cloning tutorial by JWoods as a sticky thread on this same forum.
|
erm how do you package the file when i try to import it all i get is the image and i doubt that will work in the game
|
If you are following this tutorial, you don't have to package the file: SimPE does it for you. When you use Object Workshop, select an object and select the "Recolour" option, SimPe creates a brand new recolour package for you (that usually contains 1 Material Override, 1 Material Definition and 1 Texture). The package works perfectly in game even if you don't do anything else (but of course, if you don't replace the texture with your own, you will get two identical colours in the catalog...).
