You did a great job, but I'm afraid simPE is still too complicated for me

Numenor 11th Jul 2007 6:57 PM

If you find difficult recolouring object using Object Workshop and this tutorial, you might find easier using the "Wizards of SimPE" to create your recolours.
Find the tutorial HERE (link to SimPE site)

But when I tried to buy the items, I can't see my design only the original design of the item. Please help me. Thank you.

icefroze18,

you might have missed listening to or feeling the signals for step 2 in which it suggests recolourers to choose the default option - recolour.

Hopefully, your PC can tell you how to choose an option there and when a recolour is chosen, it can signal you which to choose.

Good lucks.

icefroze18 16th Jul 2007 2:39 AM

Between the options recolor and clone I definitely did choose recolor and then click on next button and proceed to the next steps.

Perhaps you just forgot to click COMMIT, and then save the package, when requested so? Without committing, the changes in the texture are not actually stored in the package.
If you re-open your recolour package now, with SimPE, what texture do you see? The new one?

Sometimes, trying to fix a broken package is harder than creating it again from scratch: try create a new recolour package, following again the tutorial (remembering that the first time you probably overlooked something, so read carefully).

If your new package still doesn't work, post it here and we'll take a look at it.

Thanks Numenor for the tutorial. I am looking forward to doing recolors.

However, I have a problem... I followed the tutorial to the letter and everthing comes out dandy, but when I click on commit I get a little window that saya "Changes were comitted". Does this mean that I am good to go?

Edit: Well, I'll be. I guess when you "build" in the latest version of Simpe it automatically saves the package for you. One less step for me to forget about forgetting...LOL. Thanks again.

I am a noob. I read the tutorial and yet I am blind as to where I actully recolor here... I followed the tutorial and all I did was save the same thing in another area. Help cause I am blind to the obvious.

tiggerypum 23rd Jul 2007 9:13 AM

Yes, Cheeseflowers - Numenor breezed over the graphics editing part with a little sentence - "When you have edited and saved the texture, it's time to import it back into SimPE."

So... in step 3 - you see the part where you extract the texture? Good.

Now, you go and fire up your graphics editor and CHANGE the texture(s) that were saved out.

Then you finish step 3 and import your next textures using dxt.

The tutorial focused on the sim files and simpe parts - and did a quick skip over the edit the graphic in your graphics editor part. For starters, I'd just go find your graphic, and edit it, and shift the color to a totally new one -and then import it again. You can just open the file you edited, and do the import part over again.

Thank you ^^

I'm really confused. I'm really lost and don't get it. help?

Numenor 25th Jul 2007 12:23 AM

Here we are, to protect and serve

Just tell us which part looks confusing to you...

EmoRocker 25th Jul 2007 4:38 AM

I'm confused in the WHAT YOU NEED section. Where are the files I need to download SimPE and The "Legacy" Nvidia DDS Utilities?????

niol 25th Jul 2007 8:53 AM

lol, one can click on highlit underlined links after the tools names (simpe, DDS utitliies,...) @ the section "what you need".

The linked pages contains informations to tell readers where to download the softwares, so just hold on and read on. Sooner, one will get used to what to do to get software downloads.

EmoRocker 25th Jul 2007 5:49 PM

But when I click on sims.ambertation.de it brings up the home page, I just don't know where to go from the home pages. Same with The "Legacy" Nvidia DDS Utilities.

It's either I'm a noob or I'm a complete idiot.

corvidophile2 25th Jul 2007 6:28 PM

The Nvidia Utilities download is at the bottom of page actually.

As for SimPE go here http://sims.ambertation.de/en/download/

click on "i agree" on the bottom of disclaimer and you'll get to the download page.

EmoRocker 26th Jul 2007 2:15 AM

So do I download all the downloads or just the main SimPE download?

corvidophile2 26th Jul 2007 2:22 AM

The main will do for now. :-P

EmoRocker 26th Jul 2007 2:33 AM

okay. so i download Nvidia Utilities at the bottom of the page where it says:

Download - please read all instructions before downloading any files!

and download all the files???

corvidophile2 26th Jul 2007 2:42 AM

I don't know where you are looking but at this page http://developer.nvidia.com/object/...ies_legacy.html at the bottom it has:

Downloads:

DDS Utilities Installer (Build 8.31.0225.1745) (10263 KB)

The part in bold is what you need to download and then i suggest you read carefully word by word the tutorial to continue. It really explains everything.

EmoRocker 26th Jul 2007 6:17 AM

Whenever I try to recolour a guitar, right when I try to do step 3, nothing happening the way it says in the tatorial. I don't have a "plug in" option I have a "plug in view" option though. And when I right click on the picture, there's no "Build DXT" option!
What am I doing wrong?

Numenor 26th Jul 2007 11:09 AM

You're right, the "Plugin" tab shown in the picture now is named "Plugin View", but the appearance of screen after clicking it is the same as in the screenshot.

When you right-click on the texture, the "Build-DXT" option is always visible, but in some cases the option is grayed-out and is not clickable. This means that you didn't set correctly the path to the DDS utilities in the SimPE preferences.

Read again the section "What you need", step C, and look at the picture provided there: if correctly done, the "Build DXT" option should become clickable.

EmoRocker 26th Jul 2007 11:27 PM

I'm trying to recolour a guitar, i'm doing everything in the instructions, I clicked on Texture Image and then something called accessoryguitar-gibsonlp-c9e2ddlc.... appeared in that box like in the tatorial, I clicked on it, saved it in a folder SimPE_CloningOptions, Buuild DXT still isn't showing up.

EmoRocker 26th Jul 2007 11:33 PM

Do I have to make the folder SimPE_CloningOptions??? Because it doen't come with SimPE when I download it.

Numenor 27th Jul 2007 1:30 AM

No, no, the folder "Cloning_Options" is just the temporary folder I used for taking the screenshots. When you are suggested to "Save as...", you can save your package wherever you want (but remember where you save it! )

As for the missing BuildDXT, you say:
"... appeared in that box like in the tatorial, I clicked on it, saved it in a folder SimPE_CloningOptions, Buuild DXT still isn't showing up."

In the step you describe, i.e. when you are asked to "Save as..." your package, the Build DXT is not mentioned. That function is required later on, in step 3, when you have to import your modified texture back into the package. So, why have you mentioned the Build DXT immediately after the "Save as..." part?

However, there are only three possible reasons for the missing Build DXT option:
1) you have downloaded and installed the wrong version of the DDS utilities. Go to THIS PAGE and look at the bottom of the page, you will see a link named "DDS Utilities Installer (Build 8.31.0225.1745) (10263 KB)". Click it and download; when finished, double-click ono the program, and it will automatically install the DDS utilities in C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\DDS Utilities.

2) You have not set correctly the path to the DDS utilities into the SimPE Preferences.
Please look carefully at the screenshot ini the first post, section "What you need", step C. In particular, you have to open the preferences and click the button "Browse"; then browse to C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\DDS Utilities: you should see a file named "nvdxt.exe"; select it, then click Open and lastly OK (this will close the preferences window).

3) You are not right-clicking on the texture, as shown in step 3.

I really hope that these additional explanations will help you, because frankly the only thing I can do more than this, is coming to your house and configuring SimPe for you
