lol. thanks a lot

Does it means you succeeded in activating the Build DXT? If so, I'm happy for that
![]() Besides, you don't sound stupid at all ![]() |
Okay, I followed the tutorial to the letter. I installed the Nvidia DDS utilities and then in Extras\Preferences I typed in the exact path where the folder is installed. The Build DXT thingie is still disabled. How do I enable it?
|
To be 100% sure that the preferences are correctly set, don't type manually the path: instead, use the "Browse" button, and browse your folders until you can select the file named "nvdxt.exe". If you can't find it, then you might have installed the new DDS, and not the Legacy ones.
Also, you'd better restart SimPE, after having correctly set the preferences. |
The version I downloaded is Build 8.31.0225.1745. It's the only one I see available. So when I open C:\Program Files\Nvidia Corporation\NVIDIA DDS tools, I see an assload of subfolders but no NVDXT.exe. Is this the wrong version, or am I a dummy face?
|
|
were do i find the package file to put into downloads at the end of tutorial?
|
I think I know what's wrong. The first thing I installed was NVIDIA texture tools 2. There's an assload of subfolders, but it's not the right thing to install. I followed the link at the beginning of the post and got DDS utilities. Now I'm looking inside the folder and i see several icons. There's one that says NVDXT and another that says readdxt. There's no .exe anywhere, but I'm assuming it's the first one. If this doesn't work, I'll bother you again

ja1g - The last sentence of the tutorial is:

The package mentioned here, is the one you have saved earlier, in step 2, where I say:

jasonduskey - The .exe extension is showed in my screenshots because I've set my Windows to show the file extensions. Probably your Windows hides the extensions, but this shouldn't prevent the "Browse" button in the SimPe preferences from finding the right file. |
Okay, I figured that part out, man. I pulled up a custom object, exported it, made a bunch of recolors, did the build DXT thing, saved them to a projects folder. That much I get. Then I copied all the recolor .package to my Downloads folder. I started up the game, went into a 'hood, entered a lot, pulled up the object in the catalog. None of my work showed up. I don't understand why.
|
ok, thanks numenor, sorry i missed that part
|
This seems kinda hard. I would like to recolor objects but do not want to download the software.

soccerprincess07,
Let you hope someday, somebody does an online application for doing so ![]() |
Let me see if I understand.
1. Open Object Workshop 2. Find the object you want to recolor. Create a recolor package, name it something you can remember, and export it. 3. Mess with the texture in paint.net or GIMP 4. Enter Object Workshop, find the original package, pull up the texture image, right-click, select Build DXT 5. Open the new texture with in the Build DXT window, select the transparency option you want, click build 6. Commit the changes. 7. Save as... Name the texture something easy to remember, save to projects folder. 8. Copy the new package from the projects folder to your Downloads folder. I have been following these steps and I can't get my recolors to appear in my game |
Either you didn't express correctly, or you are making some mistakes...
1. OK 2. OK, but the last words ("export it") should refer to the texture contained in the saved recolour package (while reading your post, it seems that you are trying to "export" the package itself) 3. OK 4. OK, but you don't need to open Object Workshop: just open SimPE (remember that Object Workshop is a specific part of SimPE); also, the "original package" you mention is the recolour package you saved earlier, i.e. the one from which you exported the texture. 5. OK 6. OK 7. You mention the "texture", but actually in this step you are saving the recolour package (you save it with the same name you assigned earlier: there is no need to "Save as...", you can simply hit the Save icon). 8. OK Of course, custom content must be enabled in your game, in order to see the recolour (and all the other downloaded stuff). |
I have tried following these steps exactly as you say. I have custom content enabled and CEP installed. I'm still not having any luck. Suggestions?
|
i have been reading everything over and over and over again. somthing in my recolours is not working right. all that happens is that the maxis textures get sharpened alot

Okay, after about an hour of fiddling with simPE, I figured out where I was messing up. Thank you for your incredible patience, Numenor, and I apologize for being such a dummy face. I may bother you later further questions.
|
Now I'm stuck. If I follow the instructions when recoloring an ugly base game couch, the recolor is immediatley available in the Buy Mode catalog. If I recolor a custom object, USING EXACTLY THE SAME PROCEDURE, it does not appear. This doesn't make sense.
|
When I open up the game, the custom content is there, but it's in the texture that I built my recolor over, not the recolor texture. I tried doing it over, thinking that I forgot to save, but once again it was the wrong texture.
|
NEVERMIND! All good. =) Thanks so much for this amazing tutorial!
|
jasonduskey,
for custom objects, press the "open" button instead of "start" as instructed in the last statement of step 1 in this tutorial. comedy711, have you read and tried the second hint of step 3? If so, may also try the first hint of step 3. If any problem persists, may ask more or simply attach it in your next response. |
I figured that much a while ago. The problem is there's a custom object that i really like that refuses to be recolored. I can recolor any Maxis object in my catalog, and most of the custom objects. But even if I follow the steps in the tutorial exactly, I can't recolor this object.
|
jasonduskey, the object is probably broken. Go ask the creator. If the creator forgot to try and recolor their object as a test, then it might still need some work. (the first custom object I tried to recolor was broken, it does happen)
|
Is there any way to extract the obj mesh of a maxis object to get a template via uvmapper? I got the object workshop recolouring thing working .. but I want a template so I dont have to use just a floodfilled texture. Heck .. if theres a website with templates of all the maxis mesh that'd be better. Thanks in advance
