What Happened Was... (1994) - 5/10
Jackie and Michael are coworkers at a large law firm, who decide to meet at Jackie's for dinner one night. As this 'first date' plays out, the audience is guided through a mental minefield of disappointment.

Sling Blade, directors cut (1996) - 10/10
Karl Childers, a simple man hospitalized since his childhood murder of his mother and her lover, is released to start a new life in a small town.

Holy Motors (2012) French with English subs - 3/10
A man boards a limousine to be driven to his day's work: nine mysterious "appointments."

I think I'm missing the deeper meaning of this one.

Looking for Mr. Goodbar (1977) - 5/10
A dedicated schoolteacher spends her nights cruising bars, looking for abusive men with whom she can engage in progressively violent sexual encounters.

Overly and irritatingly dramatic, this promotes more social and political agendas than mushrooms in a deadhead's bathtub. I'm surprised they had enough time to tell the story. But then, it's Diane Keaton, so it's to be expected. Has not aged well.

Three Days of the Condor (1975) - 5/10
A bookish CIA researcher in Manhattan finds all his co-workers dead, and must outwit those responsible until he figures out who he can really trust.

20 Million Miles to Earth (1957) - 3/10
The first spaceship to visit Venus crash lands in the sea, freeing a small native Venusian creature called the Ymir. Eventually growing to enormous size, it threatens the city of Rome.

Castaway on the Moon (2009) Korean with English subs - 6/10
A failed suicide attempt leads a heartbroken man to live a life in the wilderness.

The Osterman Weekend (1983) - 3/10
During the Cold War, a controversial television journalist is asked by the C.I.A. to persuade certain acquaintances, who are Soviet Agents of the Omega network, to defect.

Unsane (2018) - 8/10
A young woman is involuntarily committed to a mental institution, where she is confronted by her greatest fear - but is it real or a product of her delusion?

Inland Empire (2006) - 4/10
As an actress begins to adopt the persona of her character in a film, her world becomes nightmarish and surreal.

Grown Ups (2010) - 5/10
After their high school basketball coach passes away, five good friends and former teammates reunite for a Fourth of July holiday weekend.

Grown Ups 2 (2013) - 3/10
After moving his family back to his hometown to be with his friends and their kids, Lenny finds out that between old bullies, new bullies, schizo bus drivers, drunk cops on skis, and four hundred costumed party crashers sometimes crazy follows you.

Encanto 10/10

Pretty much all of the characters dealt with real issues that felt relatable and that is one of the many reasons why I love this movie. I also love the message of if we just take the time to understand one another, then we would all be happier for it. Unfortunately, a good majority of people in the real world don't follow that logic, so not many come to an understanding of different perspectives than their own. All the best written characters and villains to me are ones who are complex and see things in their own way and of course if it is a type of character arc storyline, they can open their horizons by learning from others than being close-minded without losing themselves in the process. I'm glad that Disney is incorporating more ethnicities and cultures as well and the ability to capture the uniqueness of it all. The music is well done and just so much harmony that I can not only hear the songs but feel the meanings behind it emotionally. A very beautiful masterpiece.

The Banishment, aka Izgnanie (2007) Russian with English subs - 11/10
A trip to the pastoral countryside reveals a dark, sinister reality for a family from the city.

Easily one of the best films I've ever seen. The cinematography is nothing short of stunning. The score sets the dark mood that pulls you in and won't let go, not that you'd want it to.
The subs were a little too quick and I had to pause and replay a few scenes at the beginning to be able to fully read them, but after a few minutes it was okay.
I will definitely try to watch some of this director's other films.

No Country for Old Men (2007) - 8/10
Violence and mayhem ensue after a hunter stumbles upon a drug deal gone wrong and more than two million dollars in cash near the Rio Grande.

Second time I've watched this. It wasn't entirely clear to me how the final killings came about until I read the plot description on Wikipedia, so two points off for that.

Stopped watching this drivel at about 15 minutes.

House of Cards (1968) - 4/10
In 1960s Paris, an American boxer stumbles upon an international fascist conspiracy that aims to create a new world order.

Kind of dumb, but then movies starring George Peppard usually weren't anything to write home about, the exception being Breakfast at Tiffany's, and even that was mostly Audrey Hepburn's thing.

Encanto was surprisingly nice considering I got dragged into watching it. Hated the grandma, loved the capybara

Leviathan (2014) Russian with English subs - 8/10
In a Russian coastal town, Kolya is forced to fight the corrupt mayor when he is told that his house will be demolished. He recruits a lawyer friend to help, but the man's arrival brings further misfortune for Kolya and his family.

Wind Chill (2007) - 3/10
Two college students share a ride home for the holidays, but when they break down on a deserted stretch of road, they are preyed upon by the ghosts of people who have died there.
