Nicked my thumb on something while out gardening/mowing the lawn/cleaning the lawnmower. Didn't feel anything until I washed my hands, so I have no clue when it happened. Was wearing some plastic gloves (mostly to keep dirt and grass off my fingers, not for protection), so whatever it was probably went straight through.

Anyway, I'm in the process of changing workplace (working within the same overarching setting, but in a different place and with a diifferent client group, so to speak), but it's looking like July and August are going to be a bit of a void in that I have little to no clue what's going to happen (directly before the summer holiday was perhaps not the best time, as it's not been quite an A4 way to change job, and everyone is either currently on holiday or going on holiday). My job situation is probably going to get a bit more stable after the summer, though. Just have to sort out some things, because communication is lacking (not surprised there, though). I hate having to sort out things... :/

I had a shit day.

I was to fast for a blood draw as part of pre-op, which I nearly lost my cool over some mother not keeping her kids in line, and when I finally went to get examined, I had a panic attack.

Worse, I was informed I have an AV block, which means my heart has electric abnormalities. It's benign, but I have to go to cardiology tomorrow to get a doctor to give the doctor a second opinion.

Worse. I think I am about to get my period and the restless night and fasting was just brutal.

I was just not myself.

Update: Went to the cardiologist. Turned out one of my meds was screwing with the results of my EKG. The AI was still learning.

I don't have any issues with my heart as far as it racing in fear or extreme emotional reaction

I was able to pick up something to eat. Also had my once a week caffeine boost.

I cleared the first round of appointments. Round 2 is next week.

I also have to call about my meds for my PCOS as I am skeptical about them. They don't look like my normal ones. I better do that in the morning.

Best of luck with surgery and have a speedy recovery.

PANDAQUEEN 24th Jul 2024 9:30 PM

Mom came home with gastritis, a swollen lymph node, antibiotics, the list went on of how she made herself sick and what is needed to feel better.

That's another thing to dread beyond surgery on my mouth.

Yeah. My teeth need work.

Oh no, I hope things go well for you and that the surgery is successful. Best wishes to you.

Stressful day. Went to pick up pups from the kennel where they had spent the weekend. They had just been groomed, but I never ordered that. In fact, when asked, I said, "No, no grooming!". They had never been professionally groomed before. Because it's a small family business, I paid for it, even though they offered to not charge me. But then I noticed one of my dogs had a very red eye as I put him in the car. My regular vet is on vacation, so I had to find an urgent/emergency care place. When we got there, the other eye turned red. This isn't red as in lack of sleep, allergies, or conjunctivitis. It looked like head trauma. - bright deep red where the whites should be. The emergency vet ruled out all serious possibilities (thank God!) and landed on stress to the throat/trachea with the result of bruising in the eyes. Probably from fighting against restraints while being groomed. The dog was so stressed. He was whining and unsettled until we finally got back into the car (2 1/2 hours after getting to the emergency vets). He immediately crumpled on the back seat. Needless to say, I was stressed too. Lost a day and a lot of money. Pup is ok, he will heal. I have to figure out what to say to the owner of the kennel since he hires people to come and groom.

PANDAQUEEN 30th Jul 2024 8:01 PM

My pre-op results came back and the way they made it sound, it sounded like cancer.

I was so happy to go shopping again...then the crow, seagull and pigeon of chaos crapped all over my good mood.

simmer22 13th Aug 2024 9:05 PM

Had a mostly alright day at work today, if a bit long. But really tired. Yesterday was... Ugh.

Was yelled at this morning, but not unusual with that particular client. And I'm almost convinced a couple clients really don't like me, or at least that they've decided to not listen to me - but I'm new and communication (or lack thereof) is a big issue, so I'm giving it a pass for now. Hopefully things get a bit better when we get to know each other.

Rough start, I guess...

Visited hospital for checkup. Heard one of removed tumors from right breast was cancerous. So additional surgery is planned next week. Looks like more tissues are going to be replaced with some fillers.

Good that they got your results quickly and can take more action. I hope it all goes well, and that you aren't in too much pain or distress. Sending hugs!

Bigsimsfan12 19th Aug 2024 11:37 PM

Ugh. My sister posted on Facebook about how she's having trouble with my step-Dad to step up and be a Dad (she raises my younger half-siblings since my Mum's passing 11 years ago). Which I mean, is bad... but what annoyed me was all the comments saying how amazing she is for raising 4 kids on her own. 4. She did not correct any one of them that she hasn't been raising the oldest of my younger siblings in about 9 years. She sent him off to live with me because he was "too difficult" almost a decade ago, never once asked about him, and even now while he struggles through a neurodegenerative disease in his early twenties (which he did not want the family knowing about) she recently went and told my cousin and his wife that "he's crazy and lives in a mental home" when they asked about him. I'm very close to my cousin and his wife too, so clearly if I hadn't told them then maybe I didn't see any reason for them to know that and it wasn't for her to say

I dunno. Maybe I'm overreacting. I'm just very defensive about my brother. Especially the way she talks about him and would treat him when he was in her care and it kinda caught me off guard today when my cousin's wife asked about it. His diagnosis, the process of getting a diagnosis, and how much he has deteriorated in the past 2 years alone is a bit of a sore spot for me.

I hope you are keeping well too!

Thank you, he's on a medication that seems to be working really well with his tremors and his mobility has improved. He's doing really well, which made my sister's comment about him really off-handed. Luckily when I explained to my cousin and his wife they understood, respected my brothers privacy and were also disgusted by my sisters comments.

Otherwise, we are all doing well.

Those blasted spiders again. Found a huge one on the wall yesterday evening, but it zoomed behind the bed before I managed to catch it (that one was speedy!). Then before I went to bed, I found a smaller one next to my bed. First thought I'd managed to catch it, but it peeked out, so I tried again (with a bit more success this time). That one got booted out.

The big one is still... somewhere. Probably under my bed. Not happy about that...

PANDAQUEEN 30th Aug 2024 10:23 PM

My father asked me if I wanted dinner from a restaurant that always messes up my order by slathering the quesadilla in runny sour cream. (I'm extremely picky about sauces and the applications involved)

I said "I rather starve. Builds character and burns fat."

To any chefs who are stocked with sauces: You mess up my order with slathering with abandon, and you'll see a nasty side of me no one likes. The side I have could even make Gordon Ramsay when in a foul humor soil himself.

Only bright spot today is my Mac and Cheese came ahead of schedule.

One problem: I can't use my microwave Rapid Mac cookers (all are in the dishwasher.) to make it quickly and the sink is full.

I think I need a cookie... lately I am still struggling with my diet. I will call DB (my family's primary care physician) about changing out my diet for one more conducive to my conditions.

The not-so-little bastard decided NOW was a good time to show up, basically crawled up behind me and up over my shoulder (or boob, crook of arm, or wherever that thing was tiptoeing before I saw it), making me jump sky high. Had to scramble to find something to catch it with (no way I'm sleeping with that giant monster in my bed - barely managed to sleep with that thing under my bed!). It has so far been banished from my room in a small container. Its fate probably depends on my mood when I wake up...

PANDAQUEEN 3rd Sep 2024 8:07 PM

Went to a diner, waited 15 minutes for service, no one came, we left. My father wrote a scathing review.

PANDAQUEEN 9th Sep 2024 8:08 AM

Second time this month my father buys food for dinner from a place I absolutely hate because they slather sauce all over a food I expect to be dry on the outside. My blood sugar dropped low enough, that it forced my parents to eat dinner in the living room...

I hate these hangry episodes. I am now scared of myself. Mainly because I am scared of this behavior. I have an adverse effect from that restaurant's policy of putting sauce over something I want control over. They don't bother to put it in cups.

I eventually bought a meal from McDonald's and had it DoorDashed. It took a while, because my food was slightly cold. Must have been slammed tonight.

I was supposed to also get a quote on a down payment for household items I needed, but it was left inconclusive.

This hasn't my ruined my day. There used to be a thread for this kind of stuff, but it was deleted, because of course it was. If people are not all kumbaya-ing over every little thing the gaming industry does, a person may as well be Satan himself.

Quote:
Seven of the gaming industry's biggest names—Epic Games, Electronic Arts Inc EA, Roblox Corp. RBLX, Microsoft Corp.‘s MSFT Activision Blizzard, Mojang Studios, Tencent Holdings Ltd. TCEHY Supercell, and Ubisoft Entertainment SA UBSFF—are facing new accusations from the European Epic, EA, Ubisoft Face Accusations Of Deceit Over In-Game Purchases – EU Complaint Filed

Consumer Organisation (BEUC) of deceiving players into overspending on in-game purchases.

The BEUC's complaint, filed Thursday alongside the European Commission and the European Network of Consumer Authorities, calls for urgent action to address what it describes as “deceptive tactics” used by these companies to mislead consumers, particularly children, into spending more money than they intend.

Quote:
In-Game Purchases: A History Of Controversy

This is far from the first time major games companies have faced scrutiny for their monetization practices. EA, for instance, has long been under fire for the use of loot boxes in its popular FIFA Ultimate Team mode, which sparked a class-action lawsuit in 2020. Critics have claimed that the loot boxes are a form of gambling, particularly given their appeal to younger audiences.

In 2022, the U.S. ordered Epic Games to pay $520 million to settle charges. The FTC accused the Fortnite maker of using deceptive techniques to trick users into making unwanted charges and violating children's privacy laws.

https://www.benzinga.com/general/ga...d=mw_quote_news

I don't know why countries continue to drag this problem out. The solution is simple and has already been done in places like Belgium.. Tell these companies to ditch the loot boxes and BS from their games, then give them time to take action. If they fix their stuff, problem solved. If they don't, tell them they can no longer sell their game and or hand out hefty fines on a daily basis until they do fix it if they agreed to do something, but 'forgot'. AAA gaming companies are really good about being absent minded, until there is money involved, of course.

The extreme slowness of Windows update. I think I started the thing at 21 PM or thereabout, and it finishes (with restart) at about 03.15 AM.

Gargoyle Cat 25th Sep 2024 6:16 PM

The neighbors that live on the side street next to my house all use a landscaping company. I don't know if they get a deal because 5 of them use the same company or not, but whatever. It is a moot point.

The people from this company having been dumping leaves, grass clippings, ect... on my property for over 2 years now. The town owns a couple of feet in from the street, beyond that is our property. We've never done anything with that part of the yard as we've never felt the need to do so. There is a bunch of trees and the usual things a person would find on a piece of land that isn't bothered with.

While I was busy washing floors and other unexciting things, I could a leaf blower, so I decided to go for a walk next door and have a 'discussion' about this dumping problem. I asked one of them if they were the ones dumping crap on my property, he of course told me no. People are not driving by dumping stuff, and we don't dump leaves and grass. They get shredded with the lawnmower so when the stuff breaks down, it feeds the lawn.

The asshat I spoke with lies like a rug. We've intentionally moved large, dead tree branches that have fallen to block areas they were backing their drive on lawnmowers into. They didn't move the logs, instead they created new areas to dump their shit. All they have to do is dump all of their crap at the end of the street. It is a dead end, nobody lives there, nobody would notice.

People are so frickin' rude.

Several ups and downs at work (the ups were fine, but the downs were really annoying), both yesterday and today. Then grocery run with mom (bit of a pain in the behind after the day I had). Then home to two hours of gardening work. 8 hours or so between lunch and dinner, head has already had multiple brain farts between the last few hours at work and now and is overtired, plus my feet hurt.

Noa1500 5th Oct 2024 6:57 PM

Two things: first is that fewer and fewer people are writing post codes correctly (e.g. putting the spaces in the wrong place) so there's inconsistencies now and I get the joy of fixing them before the system has a meltdown. Secondly, the place I went to for brunch was really sad considering the price. Like when we booked we specifically said 1 person is vegan and the rest aren't so why are we getting everything fully vegan? Don't even get me started on meat replacements and fake cheese. Either give me the real stuff or provide a nice menu with vegetables and legumes. It's not hard. And then just generally poor service like giving us the wrong drinks, dropping the soup etc.

topp 9th Oct 2024 12:20 PM

Yesterday, my boyfriend and I were on our last day in Berlin. We went to see Käärijä perform - it was the opening night to his European tour.

The gig was on Sunday, and we were leaving the country on Tuesday. We knew Tuesday was going to be a long, difficult and PITA day because we still had lots of stuff to see, but our transportation ticket expired so we didn't have as much access to public transportation without paying extra for the additional tickets - we had to walk a lot. And I have been walking a lot already these days - the tours, sightseeing, museums...

I had a bad night's sleep and I was hella groggy. We had to check out by 10 and our flight was scheduled for 8 o'clock in the evening. My boyfriend kept walking faster than me the entire day and that irritated both him and me. We arrived at the airport where I had I think my second chance to sit down that day. The Starbucks only served grande and venti (medium and large), and was of course more expensive than a Starbucks outside the airport.

I went to the bathroom, and by the time I was back, my half-full cup was gone. I left my boyfriend to mind our luggage, and he was sitting next to me, but there were two separate coffee tables. I guess he didn't even notice that the waiter came by and picked the cup up (despite there being luggage all around the coffee table...). Oh well, half of €7 down the drain I guess.

Oh, I forgot - the airline kept pushing back the departure. The flight was over an hour and a half late.

Anyway, the time has come - only one hour until our flight! We went across the airport to our gate.

And then... 10 minutes before the rescheduled departure, the flight disappears from all screens everywhere. "The flight has been canceled. Pick up your luggage and report to the AAS kiosk next to the Starbucks."

All of a sudden, I'm not only tired anymore - I am furious.

We storm to the Starbucks, but there's no AAS anywhere. We talk to the barista who's closing up, "oh, there's another Starbucks, outside of clearance."

A hole begins forming on my over-shoulder bag because it's overstuffed. I hope the bag won't fall apart by the time we get back to Croatia.

We finally found the fucking Starbucks and the AAS, airline assistance. "Sorry, but Croatia Airlines customer support works only until 8, and it's past 9 now. They have two additional numbers listed, but the first one is busy and the second number does not exist when we dial it."

The AAS didn't know anything! When the next flight would be, whether we should find accommodation on our own or from the airline - nothing.

We booked some random room somewhere near downtown Berlin. Of course, we slept through the night because the airline customer service is not there until 8 in the morning.

---

Today's the next day, they told us to keep our receipts for food and accommodation. They scheduled us on a flight to Frankfurt first, with a connection to Croatia. We should be back in our country by 10 in the evening.

I guess I'll never book a flight with bloody Croatia Airlines ever again, unless I plan coming back from a vacation, like, one week before work or something. I missed a day's work now, and I've barely managed to get these two days off for the gig.

I've flown Ryanair and I've NEVER had this much shit and to be left stranded with no info at all. An international airport that closes all services at 9, but serves flights that take off way later than that??? So if a plane crash landed into the ocean, we gotta wait for the representative to wake up, make coffee, sit down and pick up?

The CA representative, once we were finally on a call, confirmed that we'll be reimbursed. She asked, "I hope that the airport at least gave you a place for stay." No they didn't, but the representative was very kind probably because we didn't yell at her (we had just woken up) and expressed concern and kindness.

Currently, we're chilling at a cat cafe. In short, a day wasted because half of it will have to be spent at the airport because the flight was canceled two hours past its scheduled departure.

The weather was nice-to-ok (a warm sunny day with a small rain that happened around 1 in the morning, way past we would've returned back home if it hadn't got canceled).

I ended up disassembling and erasing my homemade video player from phone parts and I have to send it back to Amazon.

My 37th birthday is coming up and I am having my annual sushi feast with a tiramisu cake.

One thing I dread is that video player machine was a step forward, but it quickly went back when I found out how bad the condition of the parts were found to be poorly refurbished

I know it doesn't mar my ability to build, but I started building something.

Also got an email from Amazon saying my package of soda exploded. Not surprised. This is the second time it happened to me. I was ordering Cherry 7UP. Hard to find canned.

Internet problems, again!

Having trouble connecting to things I need, if I am to continue updating my story projects. Although I can get online, connect with MTS, Syms Asylum, Nraas, TSR and other sites I use a lot, nothing else seems to be working. And, crucially, I cannot connect with imgur, which I need in order to upload and access the images I will be using. I'm completely stymied, I can't even connect with Microsoft and get help from there, or with Tech Support Guy which has helped me before.

That means a journey into town to visit the Three Store, and I'm not very hopeful they will be of any help either. They'll just suggest a lot of things I've already tried.

PANDAQUEEN 11th Oct 2024 10:35 PM

Panic over. It seems to have fixed itself!

I don't know what was wrong, or what fixed it. All I did was plug my router into my old Windows 7 machine, entered my security code and was back online. Everything worked just fine. So I concluded that the problem must be with my Windows 10 machine - a nasty little virus perhaps - but when I plugged the router back into it I found that everything is now working fine. I can connect with everything I had bookmarked, and browse as normal.

Well, that's a relief. I wasn't looking forward to another, probably fruitless, visit to the Three store.

^ A lot of computer (and technical) issues can be fixed by turning it off and back on again (or unplugging and plugging it back in, or resetting/restarting - whichever fits), so I'm not too surprised. If my computer is having some weird issue, it's the go-to fix when I can't find a solution, and most of the time it fixes itself (I've had a lot of weird ones with Windows 10).

Gargoyle Cat 12th Oct 2024 1:43 PM

Must be the season for computer issues although I don't think mine will be solved by turning it off and on.

My sims rig has decided to start shutting down with a error that the CPU is overheating and to make sure that it is seated properly.

This system has 6 fans. 3 on the front, 2 on the top and one in the back. I clean this system out regularly to keep the dust from building up on the fans themselves and the mesh or screen that is in front of the fans on the front and top. The fan in the back doesn't have a screen or mesh piece in front of it.

I downloaded a app called Core Temp to see wtf was going on at least temp wise. It isn't hot in the house. I've been having to turn the heat on at night and it's been in the 60s during the day. As far as I can tell, everything is seated properly, so I removed the glass part of the case and have a fan blowing on everything. I've read that people shouldn't boot a PC that throws this error, whatever. I also read that that fans start sounding like a airplane when this happens, but my fans are radio silent. They don't make any noise before the system shuts down. There is also a liquid cooling system. I'm wondering if that is the issue since the fans are not the problem. Every time it shuts down, I instantly think the power went out.

It needs to be looked at which is going to wait as it has been a expensive week. The fence done and paid for, I paid property taxes early. In between those there was a vet visit; Chica has a yeast infection in her left ear. Today Jingle goes to the vet for her yearly physical. Before I pack it up and take it somewhere, I'll have The Boy look at it as he went to school for this stuff.

If the whole thing craps out on me, I backed everything up yesterday to a external drive between shut downs. That was before I got had the idea of removing the glass and using another fan. I'm not playing sims or watching YT on said system as doing either of those will cause more problems heat-wise. Just sitting here typing it is now between 100-105 Fahrenheit with a fan and room temp being 73.

Wheeeee... computers are so much fun.

Gargoyle Cat 12th Oct 2024 6:38 PM

The liquid cooling pump needs to be replaced. I'm not surprised they wear out, but this would have been nice to know this when I bought it.

Anyway, my son is not interested in swapping the pump out, so I'll drop it off next Saturday morning and have it back in a couple hours. It will cost around $100.00 to fix.

Ugh. This dude at work makes me want to rip my eyeballs out.

I was on my break reading a book and he comes in "You read books a lot"
Me: Yes?
Him: Do you have much family time?
Me: what?
Him: when you're at home?
Me: yeah? I work 2 days a week... the other 5 are kinda family time...
Him: What I'm asking is, if I came to your house right now, would you be looking after your kids or reading a book?
Me: uh.. I'd be at work. Which is where I am.
Then I went back to my book.

But seriously what I read (and crochet) at work because I don't get time at home! Not the first vaguely misogynistic thing he's said to me.

I had missed a day of kitchen duty, because I had to go to a DMV appointment for a updated Photo ID, this past week, after being out of work for so long, so my pay was docked last Monday...

...and they permanently retired a doll I loved so much and decided to discontinue a number of doll features.

I feel like Milton from Office Space: No weekends, no cake (birthday coming up), no job visible to others, no paycheck and the red stapler? Gone!

I'm sick of being a doormat. No more favors until some are done for me.

I have a party coming up in about a week and I have to come up with a gift suggestion for them.

I don't mind cash. If anything, I am currently working on getting my parents money for a vacation, which they desperately need after sacrificing vacation for work. I am also working on other things. I have some big plans.

I had things to do that I need to get done ASAP, stupid thing!

And my eyebrow is twitching (second day in a row, though not continuously throughout the day). Eyelid twitching is annoying enough, but eyebrow twitching is if anything almost more annoying.

Was hoping for a calm morning before going to work (been working a lot this week, needed some time to relax), but you can bet something comes along and ruins the peace and quiet.

Suddenly I hear a lot of noise and a howl. I hurry upstairs, and find mom has literally taken a nose-dive on the floor, stumbling in the top step of the stairs, where I nearly step into a large pool of blood. She was naturally quite upset.

We got things sorted, she got an emergency trip to the doctor (fortunately someone else could follow her - I had to go to work), and hopefully her nose isn't broken, but she's going for another check next week. When I came home the swelling and bruises had started showing, and she looks like she's been in a bad fight.

Broke her arm not all that long ago, too. She's been really unlucky lately (and perhaps not as careful as she should be - I keep telling her to watch her step. Accidents happen of course, but she has a tendency to stumble when stressed or having her mind elsewhere).

At work I tried (and for the most part failed miserably) to motivate a person to do any other activity than just sitting doing nothing, for most of 7 hours (must admit I wasn't extremely motivated either, with my mind partly on what happened earlier in the day, and being exhausted from the week).

^ She's doing alright after the circumstances, although the bruising/swelling has set in, so it looks quite bad. We're supposed to go to an event later this week (family-related, so it's mostly people we know), so now that's what she's most worried about, which is quite understandable. If she decides not to go, I'm also kinda in the mood not to go (I wasn't particularly eager about this event earlier, either)...

Anyway, been enduring yet another 3+ hour Windows update, somewhat ruining my day off. Those updates take freakin' forever these days... (partly my fault - I set the thing to do one major update every month or so, instead of a trickle of smaller updates whenever Windows "feels like it", so there's always a list of stuff. The "look for updates" cycle used to slow down my laptop to a crawl, and Windows normally likes to do this several times a day, meaning at times my laptop was completely useless...).

EDIT: Apparently our family/relatives are quite accident-prone this week (or the wedding is cursed ). Someone else in the family(ish) had a stroke which lead to a small accident, and they're now in the hospital. Another has a bad back, and a third is struggling with an infection. All were supposed to be guests in the wedding. EDIT again: Yet another, who was a bit ill, got worse and had to go to the hospital at the end of the wedding*. One came with an arm in a sling (not sure what they'd done, or it happened this week, but nobody wears an arm sling for fun in a wedding). This whole week was cursed.
Thankfully, the majority of the wedding went (mostly*) without incidents.

Realizing the insanity of the real life world makes me want to escape to my dream worlds like The Crushosphere.

I had been dealing with arguments and shouting matches lately. The friction of the real world is making me worn out.

Right now, I think an escape to a video game is recommended. (I have been extremely busy lately. Also paranoid of the idea of video games under the threat of being banned from the USA, as a scapegoat for the mass shooting epidemic. It's another Jack Thompson brouhaha all over again. I remember it like when I first joined MTS.)

Missed the bus, had to walk home. Cold, rain on and off, windy, pitch-dark... Not particularly fun

And the unlucky streak of October continued with another ambulance ride (niece), pneumonia (nephew), and ended in a death (the stroke from previous), so I hope November brings some better health for the family.

Pretty sure the weather is conspiring against us, too. It's not as it's been any good in October, but today it was extra stormy plus hailing on and off all day.

Mum said a thing to me about me and I don't think I've ever been this offended in my life obviously I've been offended by things in life but they were never directly about me, you know?
Right up till then (about an hour ago now) I'd been having a perfectly normal day and then boom day ruined. Week too probably.

simmer22 8th Nov 2024 7:55 PM

Got a call yesterday if I could take an extra shift, but I said no. I'd just come from a day shift, and the day before I attended a funeral + went straight to work after. After the shift yesterday my head was hurting, and I could barely keep my eyes open (I'd had a couple nights with very little sleep - ended up being completely knocked out most of the evening). For large parts of August and October I've worked a lot more than I probably should have (at one point I worked 8 out of 9 days in a row, and the one day off barely helped). "Unlucky October" hasn't helped, either...

I was exhausted, and I felt it deep in my bones. Still feel it. I need to take care of myself, or I'm going to run straight at a wall again (been there, done that, too many times to count). I'm okay with helping out at work, but not at the expense of my own health.

I did really need my day off today.

You think you have your finances all figured out and then...
- The car needs more fixing up before the next MOT (-£300)
- Your friends are planning your other friend a surprise birthday meal and spa day (-£100)
- You have to change the date for your son's birthday party, which means the deposit and the cost is due before the next payday (-£200)
- Universal Credit have decided that when you had an account with them two years ago, they overpaid you (-£550 but possibly payable in monthly installments)

I think Youtube has been having a stroke for the past week.
My feed is suddenly full of news channels, political podcasts, reaction channels, drama, general talking heads, gaming speedruns(?!) and videos I've watched years ago. I've already spent more time trying to get rid of that stuff showing up, but it seems that the options to select 'I'm not interested' and 'Don't recommend this channel' mean nothing at all because the same videos keep popping back up.

I think it's bitten by the same bug as all the other social channels + Google...

I don't even bother logging in at Youtube, or check the front page (I don't have an account, so I don't subscribe, either). I just look for videos within whatever area of interest it is, and if I like the general content from a video creator, I save the channel as a bookmark, and check for updates when I'm bored. Painfully old-fashion, but I just can't deal with another feed that sends me a lot of crap to doomscroll...

It has been a shit week; I'm glad it is over. Really it has been a shit two weeks, whatever.

As for YouTube, it is turning into another version of TikTok brain rot. I do have a membership with a channel. It is a sims channel that I've been watching for many years and the rest of them are mostly benign. LGR Birds, some music channels ( Clamed by Nature) and a few others. There is Caleb Hammer, but I always find it interesting to see how many ways people can screw up with money. It is also a reminder not to do said stupid things...

YouTube never sends me updates. I have them bookmarked and find new videos that way. I wouldn't go near the YT homepage with a 10-foot pole.

Computer crashed/bluescreened for absolutely no reason. Happened before (a while ago), a few times. Still have absolutely no idea what's happening, but it has happened at least a couple or so times when watching Youtube videos (this time too - but considering how often I watch YT videos it's likely just a coincidence), and once while absolutely nothing was actively running (besides whatever was running the background).

This time the computer was fine with a shutdown/restart cycle, though (Windows tried a reboot, but only shuffled into a "reboot and hit a key" thing, which wasn't doing much). I've had at least once where something kinda got screwed up and I had to go into fixit mode...

And of course it happens the day before I've planned to do a backup... I mean, this time things went fine, but it did give me a scare.

PANDAQUEEN 25th Nov 2024 1:34 AM

Used the remaining money to sign up for grocery delivery from Whole Foods (I live quite a ways away from the nearest one. Worth every penny.)

Adulting was harder this month. At least I did my best for today.

My eldest aunt was fine enough to be released and is doing fine, but my grandfather was kinda unlucky (he got a blackened eye along with the stitches), but at least the card and letter me and my family sent to his house an hour south of us was enough to help him forget about his injuries.

Dentist appointment. Not the worst in itself - I'm not afraid of the dentist - but ohgawd how I hate that Ultrasonic scaler device (for plaque removal). Makes me want to jump out of the chair (almost made me jump out of the chair quite literally - doesn't quite hurt, but it's almost like every nerve in the body, especially the ones in my face, goes "WFTBLEEP???" at the same time)... Hopefully everything is gone now.

The appointment took maybe 10 minutes, and (unless unforeseen events) it's a good long while until next time, so I can't complain too much, I guess...

One more complaint, though - the "banana" taste of that fluoride paste thing they smear all over the teeth. Everything has had an aftertaste of "banana" all day

People can buy whatever they want with their money, however, do not buy the following pet bowls.

https://www.amazon.com/Mechpia-Piec...191&sr=8-2&th=1

I bought 2 sets of these a couple of years ago from Amazon. I wanted bowls that were shallow and attached to the dogs' crate doors. Jingle is notorious for flipping her bowls, so I figured these would be a ideal solution. I only use one of these in Chica's crate for water. She needs to be fed out of a slow-feeder bowl for food as otherwise she inhales her kibble which can lead to bloat and other problems.

The bowls that come with this set are cheap stainless steel. Over time, the bowls split which can lead to injuries. More specifically, when the metal splits, if a dog ( or cat) rubs their face along the edge of the bowl, it will cut their face, muzzle, tongue, ect...

Today among all the other things we need to do, I'm buying new bowls for dogs. Neither of them have had problems with being sliced while eating or drinking, but I not waiting for that to happen. I've spent lots of cash this year in vet bills; the year isn't over yet.

EDIT: Here is one side of Jingle's food bowl. There is a split on the opposite side that looks just like this.

Does anybody else have a doctors office where a God complex overrules common sense?

I don't know how this works in other places, but here in the US, most ( if not all) insurance companies do not charge for a yearly physical. A yearly physical is part of preventative care. Under normal circumstances this isn't a big deal but I can't walk into my doctor's office without some kind of drama.

This morning I went to my appointment and was greeted with attitude. I was told I owed a co-pay. I asked if that was something new. I was told no and that I owed a co-pay. Instead of making a scene as much as I wanted to, I paid it knowing that this particular conversation wasn't over. I got through the appointment, then called my insurance company before I left. Insurance company wasn't impressed. No, there hasn't been any change in policy, no I didn't owe a co-pay, then the person I spoke to went off about how she's sick and tired of this kind of crap as it has become the norm rather than not.

After the check in area cleared, I went back to the bish that gave me attitude and told her "You charged me a co-pay. I have my insurance company on the phone, would you like to speak with them?" while offering her my phone. I got a instant "No! I'm refunding your co-pay now." At that point she thought I was done, yeah no.

With receipt in hand, I went back to the doctors office part of the building, then asked to speak with a manager. Long story short, I was apologized to and was told they would deal with this problem. Cool, but the red flag came when I was told that they know who did this which means patients have complained about this particular receptionist before and nothing has changed. If I had been arguing with them about a bill that I owed for some reason, I could understand the attitude, but since I don't owe them money for anything, this BS was completely uncalled for.

I'm always given the side-eye over my blood pressure when I have a appointment. It's fine when I'm home and not there, but it spikes when I walk in there as I know there is going to be bullshit. Today was no exception. I've agreed to have blood work done just so they'll leave me alone about it and stop with the side-eye, but it's not that deep. If I'm going to be put on blast for money that I don't owe, I'm not going to tolerate being bullied.

Having a cold.

Plus there's a mini-fly that insists on being around my face as much as possible. I didn't even get any peace in the bathroom (but it turned out that one was a different mini-fly, since I squashed it, and the one in my room was still there. Makes me wonder where they come from at this time of year, since we barely have any plants indoors, and never leave any fruit out* - even the spiders seem to have gone into hibernation )

Will CVS not try to foist somebody else's meds on us today? That is the question.

I was there on Wednesday to pick up my meds. They started about how they changed the last name on the prescription, blah, blah, blah. As one of the techs was bringing the meds to the counter for me to pay, one of them decided to take my confused look and loud "huh?" seriously and asked if I was some other person before ringing the stuff up.

In the three times I've been in there over the past month, only once there hasn't been any kind of incident. I no longer feel bad when I say it is buffoonery at my CVS, all the time.

Today's trip is for Chica meds. My vet came up with the idea of having Chica's Zonisamide compounded so that I wouldn't have to fill 2 scripts every month. It will be nice to have one less pill to shove down Chica's throat, but the best thing is I won't have to go into CVS for Chica meds anymore unless it is a situation like today where we don't know if her stuff will get here on Monday because of the holidays.

Today's script is part of a backup plan if Chica's meds don't arrive when they are supposed to. If it ends up that she doesn't need the extra few days worth, I'll stash them for a later date.

EDIT: Instead of filling the script within the promised 15 minutes, it took almost a hour. The pharmacist "forgot" about it.

Rain, rain and even more rain.

Plus, the picture uploader I'm using is (again) having a bad day. All of my pics seem to have temporarily disappeared, and can't even log in there.
(Edit: Potentially site bug? I don't know, but they seem to be back again)

Also spent some time deleting roughly 800 emails from some old accounts. One of them looked to be a junk mail magnet... :/ (I hardly use them for anything now, though - just had to check something and thought I might as well clean them uo while I was at it).

And I swear if I could get hold of all the people who are responsible for terrible pill tray designs, I'd give them a good shake and tell them to try fishing out X number of pills from those awful things, see how they'd fare. I don't mind that part of the job, but would have preferred if more pills came in bottles... My fingers are getting ruined from the pill trays that have to be pressed very hard, the ones that cause not-bleeding (but still sore) microcuts from the foiling, and the ones that for some extremely annoying reason have double layers and have to be performed "caesarian sections" on to get anything out (and of course that's the ones where everyone needs double or triple numbers, so after a few rounds of that particular one I just want to throw all of those pill trays out the window ), or the ones when not pushed quite right always split pills in the middle or they get get pulverized (another candidate for "caesarian"), the ones with tiny pills in giant bubbles (a LOT of unnecessary trash, too), Pill trays that split in the middle (danger zone), and so many other variations of horrible design. One would almost think they didn't do any testing to see if people with medical issues like arthritis and whatnots can handle them (A few pills every day perhaps isn't the worst, but when people with various diseases/conditions can't handle their meds, someone else has to take over - and good grief it's painful to push out probably 1500 or so pills in just a couple days...)

Some days I question if I did or said something wrong, or if I just can't have nice things.
I've been volunteering at the animal shelter I previously worked at (now under new ownership) and last Sunday I had an interview to hopefully work there again. Went well in my opinion and I had a generally good feeling into monday morning, when on my way to the shelter my bicycle's chain decided to just hop off and absolutely lodge itself between the gearwheel and a metal fixture holding the casing, causing the pedals to be stuck aswell.
So far rather inconvenient but I can walk the rest.
So of course as soon as I had parked my bike to be picked up later, it just started pouring down and did so for the remainder of the walk there. On my way home when my clothes were barely dry, it poured again, and stopped when I unlocked my front door.

The fact I have to take a new medication that requires supervision.

In essence, I would not only lose glucose and creatinine when I go #1, but I may lose salt and have blood pressure issues, so my father will be keeping an eye on me and for any weird side effects beyond getting a cold, changes to frequency\urgency of bathroom breaks or yeast infections. (Those 3 are most common.)

Otherwise I currently have a day where I have time to transfer my amiibo cards from one binder to another. Personally, I wish they brought back older villagers like Sue E. and the cosplaying twin squirrels Cece and Viché, I have been playing Animal Crossing for a while, well before the pandemic. In fact, I collected every card, including the Sanrio booster pack in the campers.

More Windows shenanigans.

Last night the laptop spent longer than usual turning off, and was a bit iffy when turning back on, so I suspected some Windows shenanigans. Turned out it had activated some "storage sensor" or whatever it's called, to "help" with low disk space (no thanks, I don't want Windows to manage my files any more than necessary ), which deleted some files I hadn't removed yet (thankfully just in the bin, but there was a reason I hadn't removed them yet). Had just 14 GB left on the main drive, so I knew I had to do something, but didn't know Windows was going to do the first move. Though, I could almost swear there was more free space before I switched off . So now I've freed up some space (100+ GB left now), which should be enough for a little while. Been meaning to do it for some time, so maybe my computer thought I needed my butt kicked or something...

My next computer probably needs at least 10 TB of storage, the way I'm going on collecting CC
(and yes, I've got a backup, too - just wasn't ready to fully move over the files just yet)

(EDIT: weirdly, yesterday when I'd moved files it said I had around 107 GB, but today when turning on the computer it said 127 GB. Odd. Probably even more Windows shenanigans )

Blizzard for a couple days now, though it did calm down around when I went home from work today - been walking around outside way too much the past couple days. Lots of snow, some ice under the snow, awful wind, and everything combined makes for weather I absolutely hate.

And with the temp going down outside, it gets colder inside too (especially in my bedroom). Right now (in addition to what I usually wear indoors) I've got a duvet and a blanket, a fleece jacket, a bathrobe, a hot water bottle, plus wool leggings, and I'm still kinda cold (especially my hands. Considering gloves, which I have worn indoors when it gets too bad...).

I hate this weather.

Plus, I've got a cold again. Kinda had a feeling - half the town is sick, it seems. At least a couple of the kids in the family have been sick, which likely had time to spread around last week. Not surprised if I caught it from one of them.

I sometimes wish that, if you haven't been playing a new game for a long time, that doesn't feature a stringent auto save, that the at least have a recap feature that helps those who are new\busy with life, because the menu in "Pokémon Legends: Arceus" isn't a straightforward one when it involves buttons.

I expect this level of naive from children, not from a adult who has a YT channel that revolves around talking about junk that happens on the internet. Maybe the whole thing was just rage bait. In the event that it isn't...

The internet is crawling with people doing fake things so they can sell stuff to people that don't need the things they are being sold. People do all kinds of things to make it look like they have a lifestyle they can't afford.

TikTok ‘shopping hauls’ leave retailers with £7bn in unwanted clothing

TikTok “shopping hauls” are fuelling a costly surge in people returning online orders, with so-called “serial returners” sending back almost £7bn of items a year.

New figures from Retail Economics suggest that these “serial returners” account for around a quarter of all online returns made across the UK every year.

It comes amid the rise of TikTok “haul” trends, where social media users will post videos of themselves trying items on and asking their viewers which items to keep and which to return.

More than 11 million videos have been posted on the platform with the hashtag #KeepOrReturn. More than two thirds of Gen Z shoppers admit to deliberately over-ordering clothes online with a view to returning items.

Opened my bedroom door and got immediately flashbanged by the sun reflecting off of the shiny rooftiles from a neighbour's house, the roof of 2 cars, the wet stone of my terrace and the tile flooring in my hallway all at once.

My mom made mistakes on my grocery list!

1.) I didn't ask for bread (there's a whole damned loaf of it!)

2.) She bought two caffeinated drinks (I am on medication that would have adverse interactions!)

3.) She bought the wrong type of macaroni and cheese kits (I expected spiral and she bought tubes. I am sick of tubes! That was all I had for a long time!)

I am not in a good mood from the shopping errors and my respiratory illness.

We pay thousands of dollars in property taxes every year and I can't update my library card online. Even more ironic is the fact most of our tax money goes to the schools and yet less than 20% of the students ( any grade) in my local area can read at grade level. The only students that can read grade level and up, with comprehension and all that are the high school students that go to the vocational school.

The media and people on YouTube love to blame the lack of knowing how to read in school systems on Covid. This is has been a problem in my area for many years before Covid was even a thing. Updating a library card is not even a blip on the radar. There admins and other people in our school system that make a 6-figure income. I'm just going to stop. Moving on from my digression...

The library in and of itself I don't have a problem with. I do have a problem with the librarians; they're bitchy and snarky. It has been awhile since I've been to the library, so maybe the bitchy librarians have since left. If not, if they can dish it, they can take it.

Not Lowe's trying to charge me $299.00 for a used air purifier.

I had the store we started at call another store where they had one that hadn't been opened / used. The say that selling used air purifiers is disgusting is a understatement.

We also went to the library. The reason I couldn't update my card is because I was unknowingly wiped from the system. Then I couldn't get a new card because the library was being closed early do to heating problems.

I guess it would have taken too much time and or money to send me a email asking if I wanted to update my card before they removed me from the system.

Work wants me to take over a particular process that is fairly easy (unless I have to answer questions/ explain stuff) but is hard to balance with the rest of my job because it takes so long and there's so much back and forth. I have the minimum knowledge to do it because I'm not a finance/tax specialist (like not my background or job) so obviously I can't access additional materials because I don't have the "right" to do so. Don't really care other than when someone decides to be really rude about it to me. So anyway I've informed my manager to be like hey unavoidable backlog caused by departmental circumstances and was like hey maybe involve that tax partner of ours to sort it out because htey actually know what they're doing and thats obvs a win-win for all of us. Supposedly we'll have an active solution in March.

Another thing that's annoying me is not having any sweets or snacks in the house right now. And if I ask someone to pick some up for me they'll be like you have a cold you should be eating better than this. But sometimes you just really want popcorn and maltesers you know?

Yesterday as I spent far too long grumbling to nobody about how I'm subsidizing people who buy Tesla's who can't afford them via my electric bill, the humidifier I bought back in October, broke.

I don't have this exact one, but it is the same company. Mine is now spitting out a E1 error which means the sensor no longer works. The humidifier still works, but I don't leave it plugged in when I'm not near by as I don't know what would happen if something more serious were to happen. Meanwhile, the Levoit humidifiers I bought in 2020 are still going strong. My tortoise loves her humidifier so I have new, replacement coming which is also a Levoit.

What is one to do when they are chronically annoyed for a day? Download TS4, of course. I've been toying with this idea for awhile and finally made good of it. It took 6 hours to download just over 21 gigs of crap. I can't blame EA for that, but Verizon isn't any better. I digress.

TS4 is perfect out-of-box. It's vibrant, best game ever, doesn't need any mods, blah, blah, blah. We all know those type....

I have no clue what I'm doing with this game right now, but my game settings are set to go as high as they can. Where is all the vibrant, doesn't need mods, blah, blah, blah. Also, I thought Maxis said they fixed the lighting in this game? This is just like when the base game came out now over 10 years ago.

I've since downloaded two lighting mods. I don't know if they'll improve anything or not, but here's the shopped version.

My spidey senses are telling me that there are issues here. I'm going to find of all them because base game. A person could not pay me to spend over $1200.00 on this game. I didn't spend that much for TS1, TS2 or TS3. I'm certainly not doing that here.

Alas its Wednesday so my days off are over. Anyway, I was on hold for like 20 minutes with the agency of doom yes its not long but I had 3 other calls to make that would also involve being put on hold you know for the task that I'm not really qualified for but they're making me do anyway? Its the worst and I'm counting down the days to mid March when there's a supposed go-live (says the one person involved in that process that I badgered at the printer today).

I swear I feel like all I ever complain about now is my job. Like there's so many things out there I could be whinging about but somehow this has taken over, which is weird since I do my work to the minute since I dont want to be there longer than I have to I should book me a holiday somewhere far away and treat myself.

Me: Contacts doctors office. I need help with this leg issue. The meds I was prescribed on Wednesday are not doing what they're supposed to.

Doctors office: You haven't had blood work since 2020. Stay hydrated, take magnesium.

Me: Sends copy of blood work results from Nov 2024.

Me: Calls doctors office. Receptionist starts running her mouth about how I haven't had blood work since 2020; because hive mind. If people parrot something enough, it must be true.

After telling the receptionist no and I gave her the date of the blood work results, magically she finds the blood work results from Nov 2024. She then proceeds to tell me that somebody didn't attach the results to my chart. Receptionist then tells me that a office manager will call me back which is the reason I called in the first place.

The return phone call never came, because of course it didn't.

I'm still confused by all of this. If this problem would have simply gone away by means of "staying hydrated and taking magnesium", why the fuck would I be wasting money on a visit to Urgent Care? Furthermore, why was I given a prescription? Right, I wouldn't. Just as I wouldn't bother calling about anything because nobody needs that special kind of hell.

We've been down this path not that long ago only that time it was over one of my inhalers. The assholes that write the scripts for the doctors ( yeah, they're that fuckin' lazy) cancelled the prescription. I had to fight with a office manager that time to get to my prescription back.

I guess I'm dealing with this issue solo or at least until I find a neurologist. Just one of the many joys of fucking corporate health care...

EDIT: It all makes sense now.

UnitedHealth Stock Falls on Report DOJ Is Probing Its Medicare Billing Practices

I'm not covered by Medicare, however, my doctors office is owned by United Health. My doctor must be pissed as he's currently seeing a dip in his monthly dividend check from the Wall Street overlords.

Been dragging around the least cooperative sloth in existence all day (...not literally, but it feels that way). And that part of the weekend is not even over yet (I just have some very VERY much needed recharging time between battles)

This doesn't make me mad, but I don't know where else to put it. If I post it where it belongs ( TS4 forum) the pearl-clutchers are going to yap about it even though if EA actually got their heads out of their fifth point of contact, they [pearl-clutchers] would benefit from it.

Opinion: Videogame giants are spending more money but losing players — and profits
Sony, Electronic Arts and Ubisoft reflect an industrywide misunderstanding (or perhaps disregard) of what gamers value

Quote:
This industrywide trend points to a growing fundamental misunderstanding (or perhaps disregard) of what current-era gamers value. Players are increasingly sensitive to and irritated by narratives that feel forced or inauthentic. They also dislike worn and tired game mechanics and seek games that organically integrate story elements in meaningful and authentic ways, rather than check off inclusivity boxes. Gamers crave experiences that break the mold in new and inspiring ways, rather than tired cookie-cutter gameplay loops, devoid of fun and creativity.

To justify their missteps and uncreative decisions, major publishers often claim they’re making games that speak to contemporary audience and reflect their sensibilities. Sales figures tell a different story. Their “modern demographics” appear to be little more than a vocal minority, whose influence in social-media discourse far outweighs their actual market impact. The discrepancy between perceived demand and actual market reception provides a clear explanation for the current state of the gaming industry, where traditional audiences continue to drive the bulk of revenue despite being increasingly alienated by attempts to appeal to a niche and more progressive player base.

The path forward for major publishers is clear: To survive and thrive, publishers will need to rebuild trust by embracing the values and identities that resonate with their player base. This means moving away from imposed narratives and forced political correctness in favor of authentic storytelling and gameplay that respect players’ intelligence. Companies should focus on creating protagonists and stories that gamers can genuinely connect with.
