Morning mates
I've noticed, pretty hard not noticing it , that people have different opinions on how a vampire should look like. So I wanted to know what you imagine when you hear the word vampire

And so you may say your opinion, I am here because I want to know. I dislike the word obligated but I do not want a youtube-fighter here. So if you have a problem with accepting others opinions, I am sorry but this is not a thread for you. You may discuss why you imagine your vampires that way but you may not be insolent to others and their opinions. (In other terms, you are obligated to behave properly :>)

To me a vampire is this:

As for me, I think a vampire is extremely pale, and there skin is a bit translucent, you know so you can see the veins, which are very, very promminite. The eyes become brighter and more expressive but become cloudy, like after death. The hair stays the same but it will not grow any more. The vampire has an average strenghth but as the amount of blood increases, they become strnger and their senses become hyper sensitive to the point where they ca her other' thoughts and smell and taste the blood, or anything else, of a victim at a far distance. Due to this hypersensitivity, they are unable to go into sunlight, direct or indirect, no matter how much or little blood is consumed. They will burn as if in an oven, skin reddens, blisters and begins to cook and then burns, then they wil dissolve into an ash. A vampire can not be revived from after they begin to burn. They must be sleep in coffins or something of a similar, light blocking design. Their bodily functions (such as excreations, digestion, and sex) are still carried out as long as they consume at least 20 liters of blood at first transformation and a minimum of 3 liters of blood a night. They stil can feel everthing since the nerves still work.


I guess I went a little over board but it is an overall description and thank you again for this topic.

When I hear vampire, I imagine the vampire to have the skin as they did as a mortal, same eyes but are cloudy(with a chance of rain ) like Vampire of Death said. They are a little stronger than humans, they can survive without blood for about three months. They ARE able to walk into sunlight, but feel tired even though they don't sleep. Newborns would be more sensitive to the blood of humans.....of course.

When i hear the word Vampire, i usually have 2 ideas of them the first one is: the vampire has a pale skin tone and very unusual eye color that changes with their thirst into a bloody dark red, super strength and all that but with the grace of wind and the beauty of diamonds, that helps them hunt their prey but luring it in with their beauty and they (i know twilight hates are gonna kill me) sparkle in the sun!! there i said it :P, basically this is what the good guys sound to me, now for the second one (i know ppl will kill me here for my speech here but plz bare with me as i am sick right now with a bad cold xD) : the vampire also has pale skin but always bloody red eyes that can make a heart stop beating once you gaze into them, always wanting blood and attacking anything in it's path with brutal force and they turn into bat like beasts in the sunlight and become very strong, basically this is the "wild" version of them to me...hope i helped =D

Seeing as I can't draw, I figure I should just describe it.

In my mind, vampires look exactly like they did in their human life with some differences.
Their skin becomes very pale because of the lack of blood running through their veins. Vampires have retracted fangs, but when they feed they come out. The fangs are also seen when they get especially angry or, seeing as in many stories vampires are very sexual beings, when they are aroused. Their eyes remain the same colour that they did when they were human, but they are very slightly cloudy because of the fact that they are, well, dead.
Vampires are very strong and very fast, and also able to move in relative silence. When they feed they do not have to kill. Their saliva is healing and their blood, when given to a human, gives the human strength, and also forms a bond between the two.
Vampires cannot go into sunlight because they will burn, and they are weakened during the day because of sunlight. There are certain rules about what vampires can and can't do. They do appear in mirrors and photographs, but their image is slightly distored in photos.

Oh, I could go on forever .

Blue Bloods. I think vampires are the way she described them in her book.

I think that for starters they're all pretty much the same when it comes to skin colour and that they all have really pale white skin and although everyone says they're veiny I don't think so. It's not like they pop out of everywhere but I think they'd really stick out on their arms and maybe legs. Other than that they'd want to keep a normal apearance, mingling in with normal people to a point. Like, holding down some night jobs and stuff but not having any friends or anyone close enough to expose their secret. They'd keep up the masquerade and not reveal that they are vamps at any rate. They also look incredibly handsome and pretty and feminine. Like not gay but they'd give off a gentle air about them and look soft and fluffy as a sort of trap. They are positively ripped (six packs for the boys, optional six packs for the girls but they should have killer bodies too as part of the trap) but not built like trucks either. Like..... can't think of anyone that has properly shown that in tv or anything (no one I've seen anyway) but they really should have great physique and look it too. But also look frail too. To make you feel like you have to protect them or something.

Im not sure though..... I may be biased by this Anita Blake poster I'm looking at (With Jean in his sexy pose :D). But they should all look sexy. Like, ooze sex. I mean they shouldn't look like sluts but they should look sexy! But dress normal for what they're going to, not wear clothes from 100 years ago. They should not look like they've been living under a rock. They should pretend to fit in and draw as little attention to themselves as possible. Like for example kinda what my used-to-be-friend (or the cousin of a used to be friend of mine, I can't remember) wrote in a HP fanfic of hers. They should be solitary and hostile as well as beautiful creatures that don't age but unlike her story I don't think they should follow lil children who later grow up to be pop idols take them home just before random guys break in to steal stuff. That's way too huge a coincidence. But other than that I liked how she portrayed the vamp -broody, moody and in your face :D- but I do reckon they should stay towards the slums or old money places of the town rather than flaunt themselves and try to be superstars (cause people will notice when you don't die or age). They should stay at the corner of society looking in and forever alert for hunters. And about apearance I don't think they should all have black hair but that'd probably be more original. I mean if they all have the same skintone then they'd probably all have the same haircolour.... naah nevermind that. I do think they should all have some kind of default eyecolour. Like black. Or at least change eyecolours when they are super hungry or about to do something like giving into the beast. Or like maybe when they're feeding have their eyes turn red. dun dun dun!~

Anyway I spent waaaaay too much time writing this and too much space too and I feel embarassed for rambling again so I'll shut up now :@, sorry.

I think they should all look like Stuart Townsend, and not sparkle ^_^

IMO, the vampires of the "Legacy of Kain" series are a waaay cooler representation of a
vampire.

Uhm....I picture a vampire pretty much like in the Night World series by L.J. Smith

Their skin tone lightens quite a bit, but they aren't exactly ghostly pale or pure white or anything, they have rather translucent skin.
They have retractable fangs, that come out at will, and when a signifigant amount of pressure is put on the fangs, they retract. They keep the same exact eye color, but when they going into feeding mode, they get silvery. So, like, if you have green eyes, they go a rather catlike-silver I s'pose.
They need blood because their blood does everything except carry hemoglobin, and they need the human/animal's hemoglobin to do that for them. If they don't get the blood, their muscles seize up from oxygen deprivation, and they die of oxygen deprivation if not fed for a long period of time.
There is two types of vampires. A race of vampires dating back to the first vampire (I'd go into detail, but it might spoil the book for joo. ^.^), who can reproduce (I'd guess with other vampires of their kind...I dunno about humans.) and age, but can stop aging whenever they want. And the 'made' vampires, which are vampires that are bitten and stay frozen at the age they were bitten.
And the only thing that can kill a vampire is wood. Anything else, they heal themselves. Even a minor cut from wood, and it's there to stay, can't be healed. Annnnnd vampires can go out in sunlight, but it weakens their powers and bugs their eyes, especially new vampires.

Well I always imagined vampires to be pale, beautiful and dangerous. They have long hair, fangs (that only show when they want) and maybe an eye color that changes in certain circumstances. Also they're strong, fast and can't go into sunlight because they will burn....

I think there are vampires among us and we don't realise, because they can look just like us in the day but gain their powers at night. Plus, I think they can turn into bats whenever they want to.

The only way THAT would happen is if they were a shapeshifter that exchanged blood with a vampire and became a vampire.

To me, a vampire has just an ordinary human skintone, is extremely attractive (for enchanting or luring others) and has fangs, which they can hide if neccessary. So I guess they could pose as a human quite easily.

I think that vampires should be as they were when they were turned. But, of course, with paler skin. They should have fangs that comes out when feeding, or simply when they're pissed off. And when they're aroused. Yum, Alexander Skarsgard with fangs XD (I'm swedish, can you blame me for loving the men from my country? ) The eyecolour should not be very dramatic, simply the colour they had when they were human. Vampires can not be born, only bitten, since they're dead bodies walking around. I'm not quite sure whether or not they should burn in sunlight, but I guess I have to stick with Charlaine Harris on this one; all vampires burn in sunlight, but if they're old enough they can stay awake during the day. So with that said, there's just one more thing I'd like to add.

Vampires BURN. They DO NOT SPARKLE.

I think, like others have said, the main focus of the appearance of a Vampire is the porcelain white skin. I have also always thought they always appear beautiful with amazing eyes and long hair.

Although the 'Twilight' vampire does match most of the things I have said, the sparkling skin is not what I would of thought happened to a vampire. I do quite like the 'Twilight' vampire eyes theory though!

The picture attached is what I think a vampire looks like, apart from the lips as I would think they are a more strong and vibrant wine red and the eyes would be as follows (depending on the vampire's eating habits!) :

Bright red eyes for the newborn vampires
Golden/orange eyes for the "vegetarian" vampires
Dark eyes for the thirsty vampires

Well, in my eyes vampires has pale skin...everyone knows that, and to be honest i don't think vampires can change into a bat o.o sounds very weird, i rather think that vampires can change into a wolf or a black cat ^^'' its kinda hard to describe how i think they look, their hair... can be black or silver and blood red ? and of course i almost forgot the eyes hmm.. bright silver eyes and changes into red or yellow when they are in attack mode... I think that a vampire should look brooding and mysterious, with slightly cloudy eyes. Their eyes are gold, red, silver, or purple when they feed, and when they aren't feeding they're the vamp's nomal eye color. Their hair is glossy and still grows, and can be in all different colors. Their skin is very pale in most cases, but I guess African American vamps can have dark skin. They have retractable fangs, which are needle sharp and vary in size and length. The fangs come out when they're feeding, hungry, pissed off, about to attack, and pretty much any time their vamp-ness controlls them. Vamps can reproduce, and born vampires age normally. Made vampires are rare and stop aging at the time of turning. THEY DO NOT SPARKLE IN THE SUNLIGHT!!! Rather, they get burns and their powers weaken. Vampys are usually dark, but their personality varies just as humans' personalities do. Holy water and crucifixes don't hurt vampires. Wooden stakes do. There are "good" vampires, which don't usually feed to kill, and "rogue" vamps, which are pretty much killing machines.

- Any skin tone, but lacks the flushed, blood-in-my-veins look of humans (any tone, but has 'washed out' look to it)
- Elegant facial features, for example: high cheekbones, long, straight nose, high forehead.
- Either large lips (Angelina Jolie style) or small lips (for example a doll's lips)
- Either very wide or very narrowed eyes, but expressive
- SKIN DOES NOT SPARKLE. AT ALL. It has a sheen to it, kind of 'shiny' looking, not like sweaty or whatever, but doesn't sparkle.
- Cold skin, like ice.
- Any color hair, but hair is healthy and usually grows quickly

Can go out in night or day, skin does NOT sparkle in sunlight, no allergic reactions to the sun or wood or holy water or garlic or anything,

Just wondering, Torako, if a vampire can go into the sun and has no reactions to any of the myths, they really aren't all that different. Personally, if a vampire can go into the sun, they lose a lot of character, meaning, they don;t have as much of a struggle.Imagine how hard it would be to completely switch your day around, not being able to do anything in the day. Now a days, it wouldn;t be THAT hard, but imagine during earlier time periods. So, yea, to me, it takes away a key part of who vampires are, it would be like taking their fangs or making them not drink blood. But my opinion only. Oh, and that is nowhere near as charater raping as sparkles. SPARKLES SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN ON VAMPIRES. EVER.

I believe that a vampire has two paths to choose. One of them is the path of strenth and one of them is the path of knowlegde.
If they choose the path of strenth they will get their power from blood and this will make their skin burn in sun. They will be strong as a dragon when they drink blood and they can fight well. They are often seen in forests hunting and hiding. They have a muscular body and blood red eyes. They are taller than normal people and they are attractive aswell. Their nails are sharp and can turn into claws when they are angry. Their wounds are healed quickly. They cannot fly or do anything magical because they are just wild warriors.

If they choose the path of knowlegde they will get their power from moon and this will make them weaker. Sun do not affect them and moon blood gives them more energy. They are mostly seen at towns. They use their powers to cast spells and defence theirselves. They have the ability to fly and turn inviscible. They have pale skin and regular eyes. They are normal height and thin. They are attractive and prettier than human race. Their hands are perfect and they move faster. But when someone attacks them they easily die because they are not warriors. They are just some wounders.

I see Vampires as having pale skin and haunted eyes (like endless tunnels that leak and have bats and gross stuff, but where there has been a mass murder...) They are also never overweight and usually on the skinny side because of their totally liquid diet of blood. It doesn't all have to be human blood, any blood will do. When they go it the sun they sizzle and have 1 minute to get out before they burn. When they drink they gain great strength, but are only able to be in the sun for 20 seconds.They have dark shadows around their eyes, and sharp fangs whenever they may want them (like retractable claws, except fangs!). They don't turn into bat's but instead they sprout wings covered in skin with talons on the edges (like a bat's but with human skin instead of bat membrane and fur) and their fangs grow a bit longer.

Vampires have to sexy, otherwise, they can't bed you, then biting you whilst... you know. That alone sounds hot.

I'm new here, so I will start with describing on how I imagine a vampire:

To be honest, I have old stereotype thoughts about them. You know, beautiful gothic clothes, usually in 19th century style (but yet somehow modern), mostly in black, red, dark blue or purple colors. Male vampire likes to wear capes/cloaks and female vampire likes to wear dress which can show their body in perfect shape. Of course they have sharp fangs, and other teeth are smaller than usual. They have pale skin, sometimes too pale so that you can see the blue veins very clearly. They mostly have red eyes, but they can have other colors as well.

Also they can do a bat transformation, and sometimes they have bat wings. For sun, they can be outside, but it makes them feel bad, and they can never be fully shown to sunlight, only in shadows. NOTE: If S.Meyer said that vampires sparkle, it doesn't mean that all people have to think like that. Vampires do NOT sparkle! And they can sleep in beds, but if they want to skip several years or even a century, then they have to sleep in coffin.

Vampires don't have to be rich and nobility people, but they mostly have all that they desire. In many cases, vampires are very attractive to humans. Male vampire is usually a romantic lover, and female vampire is mostly a passionate seducer. They can be both good and evil, and mostly they are neutral. It depends on the situation. They also drink human blood, not animal, and if they are good ones, than they drink blood of evil people who deserved that (criminals, killers, evil persons...)

However, they can chose if their bite will turn someone into another vampire or if it will be a bite of death (kill the victim)
And they are stronger if there is rain, and they are much stronger if moon is full.

well in my opimion, vamps don't neccesarily have pale skin unless they were already light in complexion before the transformation. I also believe that they can reprodue and those who were born vampires are more magically powerful, while those transformed are more physically powerful.
They're all beautiful, irresistably so. Although they are sensitive to sunlight, they dont neccesarily burn, but they are just greatly weakened by the sun. (like superman and Kryptonite... sort of) And of course they need to drink blood to survive, but they aren't limited to human blood (although, to them, it tastes the best)
If a human and a vampire were to create a child, the child would be just like a vamp except with decreased sensitivity to sunlight, and they can survive longer without blood if they eat human food.

I love talking about vampires! I agree that taking away the weakness to sunlight takes away a core part of the vampire, just like taking away drinking human blood. I do not want to offend anyone, but the vampires in Twilight really just do not really cut it vampire-wise. This is what Dracula does to those vampires:

I think that all vampires, regardless of skin colour, have flawless, smooth skin that seems almost non-human. Their fangs are retractable but are still slightly longer than a human's. Their eyes look sharper than a human's, and turn red when feeding or in the presense of blood. Vampires are always physically appealling, but do not all dress the same way, and behave according to their own personality. I think most of us vamp fans think of them as giving off an air of sexiness and charm, or mystery. They are also not all weathly or aristocratic. When exposed to the sun, they begin to burn; not burst into flames, but to burn slowly and they must get away or be destroyed. They are much stronger than humans with keener senses, which get stronger with time, but they will never become immune to the sun. I do not believe they can shapeshift, especially not into wolves; that would make them a lot like werewolves.

This.. I like this - you described me, aahaha.. apart from the hair (Alopecia ). I do have cold skin too, apart from my torso and legs. I have bad circulation so me extremities decide that they don't need any warmth.

Anyways.. This is how I see vampire, cause pale white skin is a little racist.. Don't you get Asian or African Vampires? Huh?

Plus:
- Heightened senses (all) so, being able to go out in the sun is fine, just a little uncomfortable. (With regards to this idea destroying the image of struggle a vampire has, how about constantly wanting to feed on the people around them? That has to be quite a struggle, to hold back.)
- Vampires don't necessarily have to be rakes and they would eat food (To sustain a body for however many years they'd live, even if they were immortal, they'd need some substance to renew wear and tear which blood alone wouldn't be able to do. So just like humans you'd get some porkers as well as those who eat a healthy and balanced diet. They'd need to drink blood to keep up their supply, being somewhat anaemic and unable to produce their own blood - or able to but only at a very slow rate. They'd prefer to drink from a human because it could be easily processed by their body at that temperature.)
- Fangs! (doubles, subtle, lateral incisor and canine)
- Any eye colour, DOES NOT CHANGE COLOUR!! The pupil would dilate to the extreme (more than arousal or dim light causes) when feeding or about to or thinking about it. This would also cover why atleast you never see vamps feeding in the sun, 'cause they'd let in too much light and damage their eyes. "What about sunglasses?" Well, have you ever tried to get your head into someone neck with glasses on..? it doesn't work.
- Slightly stronger/faster than their human equivalent.. So you wouldn't have a scrawny teen vampire being stronger that a champion shot putter or faster than Bolt. But the Bolt equivalent of a vampire would run the 100m in 8 seconds.

But tbh, I hate the whole romantic, magical idea of a vampire (floating on a altar? puhlease!) and all the magic and psycic ability needed to convince someone to give up their blood to you. Surely trying to get the blood would be a better struggle than worrying about the sun.

I prefer the idea that they could be absolutely anyone and you wouldn't know until you were lying in a pool of your own blood. And I also like the idea that you can only be born with it and turning is impossible, like the traits that make you a vampire are inheritable and not transferable. If you wanted to be a vampire so bad then you'd have to insert those genes into every cell of your body which would require a kind of gene therapy that doesn't even exist yet, or may not even be discovered.

What is interesting is that many folkloric depictions of vampires specfically states that they have ruddy, bloated skin, not pale at all. But as time went on, and really pale skin became romanticized, as did vampires themselves, the two were put together.

No I totally agree with you! I think that for those who want vampires old fashioned then they can keep them that way, but for us who want the sparkle and sexy of twilight should have a mod that makes it that way!

Fangs: would be ever present, I dont get how you could extend a tooth, but of course as long as you dont smile like a goof they'd be hidden.

Skin: would look sickly, like...y'know you've been dead. Not pale white cause i dont see a naturally dark person droppin their color for the sake of being a 'vampire'.

Features: Same as when they were turned.. you don't change bone structure when you die.. or maybe you do, What I mean is.. your cheekbones will not suddenyl become higher, your nose straight, your eyes change color, lips plump and kissable. You will be you with a subtle change. You'll look like you if you had te cold or flu. Or I suppose you would have the ability to wrap a glamour around yourself to appear flawless and sexy and blah blah yadda yadda. I'm guessing because most vampires in books or movies are old they all give off that aristocratic look/vibe because of their time period. I can see why people would say vampires would have elegant features and stuff. picture king arthur.. what do you picture.. or an old feudal lord. I duno.

Powers: Uhm..Lul,wut? Does a corpse develop super human strength? Or the ability to hypnotize? I suppose you could Sway their will and seduce them if you made eye contact or something. Of course those of you magickally inclined would either receive amplified sense or totally destroyed. Dunno if magick would favor a vamp or ignore it. You could maybe will suggestions their way, plant ideas , "send good vibes" deal. All depends on the mutation or w/e it is that triggers the vampirism. 30days of night strength where sunlight enrages you and Increases your strength tenfold or.. Anne rice strength where an ancient can increase it by.. omg a lot . Or.. just inc bone durability -shrug- hard to say.

Overall, as a vampire, you would Look like you, talk like you , walk like you. You would be you except dead, I dont get how blood would sustain you but whatever. You would have a more persausive air about you, but you would also give off very bad "vibes". People wouldn't think much of it but they would think .."Hmm.. something about them.. just doesn't seem right" . As for the sun.. I don't understand why exactly sun would damage you. Looking at it from a realistic point of view anyways. I know, i know, realisitc when they whole idea is bonkers. -giggle- So let's say jsut to be true to vampire folk lore the sun would irritate you, maybe cause you to turn to ash. The dark would be preferred because the daylight wouldnt quite show off your obvious difference from everyone else. Plus easier to commit a crime in dark than broad daylight no?

blood drinking beasts, some have strange almost magical power, and when thirsty have glowing red eyes... they're extreamly lazy during the day and hates sunlight. But they look amazingly good when they're composed (for example; not thirsty or angry or plainly sleepy), they also do not turn every human they bite, only a handful vampires accturly have the power to turn humans, most don't. They look like like humans and can live on regular food even if they crave blood. they also have blood in their vains and are living creatures, so they can die. also, just a thought, the reason that they drink blood is cause they need iron. And since blood contains a lot of iron it may work as a substitute for their own lack of the mineral.

You're assuming everyone views vampires as undead :3

While I accept a variety of theories about vampires and vampiric characters, I don't necessarily think you need to be dead to be a vampire.

Someone made up some rules based on folklore, put them in a collection of gothic works, and now a lot of people are taking these as the basic foundations of what a vampire 'should' be, when in fact the whole concept of vampire is up for discussion, like elves, fairies and whatever else fantasy/horror creatures out there.

For me there are core essentials that make a vampire what they are, and others may disagree with this, but in my personal opinion these are: The drinking of blood, some form of sensitivity (physical or psychological) or reaction to sunlight, longevity, lineage.

Now by lineage I mean they can pass on their vampirism to others. Whether this is by sexual means or blood transfusion is up in the air, but it's almost like a disease they can spread.
