People should be free to build and populate their neighborhood however they choose to. It could be set in a distant past before current social norms came to be.

I personally don't care about Sims 4 content. But large groups flexing their moderation/copyright muscle for this is wrong.

I think the problem is less "people doing what they want with their own hoods" and more them claiming that the way they want it is objectively "better". For that matter there's no past, distant or otherwise, where the things the mod gets rid of did not exist.

The implications for larger society that anybody even wants to do this and is willing to talk about it is disturbing, but not unexpected. I want the Overton window back where it belongs, where people who want to assert their god-given rights to be stupid and cruel are embarrassed to talk about how much they want to be stupid and cruel. Sigh. All we can do about it is respond with the weariness and disgust these things merit and embarrass people who want to be stupid and cruel.

Anyway, I'm playing Widespot again but I've promised myself not to give Valentine any more elixir and I'm reluctant to play the Harts because he might die this rotation. But if he doesn't die this rotation, he's likely to die next rotation, which will spoil Rhein and Laika's off-to-college parties. And I wish that were the biggest problem I had.

Ugly is in the heart of the beholder.

I couldn't read the article without subscribing, so I don't know exactly what it says, but I do think that it's up to people what they want to put in their games as long as they aren't forcing others to do the same.

If it was for historical hoods, it wouldn't be called "DEI remover". That name alone says everything.

A mod author doesn't usually have the power to "force" anybody to use his mod. Big corporations who increasingly produce "liberal" games and mod aggregators have a disproportionally loud voice and can indeed force a change in culture. There was one mod site beginning with the letter N where you weren't allowed replace a controversial symbol with something else. A common mod of swapping graphics. Even though the replacement didn't contain any slogans, they would label it as hateful content.

You know you've made some pretty messed up shit when EA, who hasn't even spoken up about the mod where you can grill, serve and eat a human infant, (or about free CC ever, maybe?) speaks up and urges you to stop being a bigot and take the mod down.

Just mentioning that I would like to hit "agree" about ten million times on this.

Really I am incorrigible. I hadn't visited anyone in or around Veronaville for nearly a fortnight as I had too many Real Life things to do.Including looking after a large dog who needs long walks. I have a half written post for the Pictures forum, that I started writing back in April! So I was going to post in this thread today just to apologise for and account for my absence before people here started wondering where I'd got to. But I managed to actually start the game up today and I did what I always do. I went into CAS and made Sims to "Roll the Pacifier" and randomise the randomisers. I made an adult female, whom I quite liked, so then I made an random adult male. I dressed them both typical Veronaville fashions ("barely there" shorts etc.). I then thought it was time to see what they could do together. So I let CAS generate a couple of genetic children for them. So I got them two teenage boys. I named them the Sullivan family -- the first surname I thought of. Here they are:
The boys both generated with interesting personalities: Gregor, the eldest, is Sagittarius (5 Neat, 7 Active, 8 Playful and 5 Nice). Michael is Aquarius (5 Neat, 3 Active, 9 Playful and 8 Nice). Neither of them has any outgoing points, so I expect them both to be intensely shy. Gregor is wearing the outfit he generated in, a tiny "Castaway" loincloth. I find it fascinating that a boy as shy as that could choose to go to school dressed like that. Michael generated in those green simphany.com shorts, but I changed the blue Maxis top that he generated with to that brown leather jacket over a green t-shirt, that goes quite well with his shorts. As for the parents' attire, well it's how one dresses if one wants to fit into our Veronaville. Veronavillians clearly have good legs!

I was originally intending to cancel the family and return to the neighbourhood, but those two shy boys fascinate me. So I created the necessary relationships and saved the family to the neighbourhood. Now I could (probably should) have left them in the Family Bin while I decided what to do with them, but not me! I built a house for them. Well, to be honest, took a Jones & Moltke 2 bedroom, 2-storey "cookie-cutter" standard house, and gave it a little makeover. This is their new house:
Including two double beds, the house cost §19,252, and since the Sullivans came out of CAS with only the standard §20,000, one of the parents is going to have to get a job PDQ!

I keep doing this: I make Sims just to randomise the generators, but end up saving them to my game and playing them. This is how our Veronaville keeps growing despite the lowest birth rate in the Sims universe! On the bright side it's another sale for Jones & Moltke, so a couple of thousand more into the coffers of Andrew and Julian!

is it weird that I've only played the game "out of CAS" once? I usually always just use the familyfunds cheat for any newly created families so I can 1) Find them the right lot, and 2) Because rags-to-riches gameplay gets boring for me.

There aren't too many "rags to riches" stories in my game. Andrew and Julian have managed it due to their participation in the Monopoly Game Town contest a few years ago. A successful local construction firm has emerged from that. And I suppose April Hutchins achieved it by marrying Consort Capp. More often it's a case of rags to slightly better rags! Most of my Sims are in the JAM category -- "Just about Managing"! Never having been properly financially motivated myself, I think I relate better to Sims whose financial status is not much different to my own. But while there may not be many rich Sims in my game, I believe there are a lot of happy Sims. Which I think is much more important. Veronavillians may not be rich, but they know how to enjoy life!

For Sims moving out of CAS into houses costing over §20K, I usually use FamilyFunds to give them just enough to buy the house with a couple of thousand to spare. Most of them still need to get jobs fairly soon.

I want to move there! But I'm sure Jones & Moltke have enough on their list to do, and besides- I don't have the legs for your Veronaville!

Rags can be a fashion statement in our Veronaville.

Does anyone else have content in-game that is rarely used, but kept in for 'sentimental reasons'? I have plently of old stuff that I use all of the time, but for some reason this giant leek vegetable pile from Solander's Welt has remained in most of my games since 2005, even though I don't often have big enough kitchens to use it in.

Hey, maybe someone could make it stockable for the fridge and you'll be able to use it!

(ask Penelope T at GOS if you're curious how).

As for stuff that I have never ever used, yeah-like almost all of my deco catalogue part. Somehow I just can't part with any of it for either modern or medieval.

The Lord of the Rings or the original Star Wars trilogy also seem like Christmas movies to me. xD Although I always use the last one to sleep, I must have seen/listened to the original trilogy at least a million times.

Thinking of adding a (CC) railroad to Plot of Land. The song "Steam & Oil" by Protassov has got me really inspired to have some steam trains, even if they are just deco.

It's sad to see that former stray animals know commands or have trained behavior. Implies that somebody taught them.
