Raised in Florence, South Carolina, Gillian Murphy began her ballet training at the age of three in Belgium. She joined American Ballet Theatre as a member of the corps de ballet in August 1996, was promoted to Soloist in 1999 and Principal Dancer in 2002. Her repertoire includes Swanhilda in Coppélia, Kitri in Don Quixote, the Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker, and Odette-Odile in Swan Lake.

For those of you who don't know, being a principal in a ballet company is like being the best dancer in the company. And ABT is one of the best companies in the country.
