Derna was once a thriving planet, with a varied and rich culture and history. Now, after successive wars and ecological disasters it is a desert world, struggling to rebuild in an unforgiving climate and wracked with social, economic and cultural divides.
The lonely house is scarred and battered, the lone historic survivor on what had once been a street of fine homes; part of an equally affluent neighbourhood turned to rubble and dust.
Outside the space is given over to the hope of some kind of self sufficiency, while the inside is a cool refuge from the scorching sun with open spaces for the family to gather and three bedrooms to house a large family.
Below the home is its secret heart. A pool of precious water. An essential element of any home in Derna's unrelenting heat.
