Don't the original hoods have the exact same starter townies (per hood, that is)? The townies and NPCs in Strangetown or Pleasantview seem to always have the same names/be the same people. Probably different for custom hoods.
(I rarely use townies/NPCs for anything, and have recently installed mods to reduce their appearance even more - but the oens I have noticed usually have the same names every time).

For randomly generated sims, one or two sims ending up with the same name name could be due to chance (statistically unlikely, but still possible).

Separate sets per hood.

If they change diapers on the changing table, they use the belonging trash can/diaper pail. It's already functional, and has an animated lid, even (and bonus for not having to empty it). Doesn't function as a trash can other than when sims are using the changing table, though.

If you're having your sims changing diapers elsewhere than the changing table, put a regular trash can or trash chute somewhere in the general area. A trash can would need emptying, but also does the job. Probably wouldn't be difficult to remodel a regular trash can to use the model of the changing table diaper pail (almost surprised if nobody has done this already).

I don't always use the changin table especially in smaller rooms .. but I have put a trash can in the babies room .. just seems out of place .. and then also sims do use it as a trash can :/ .. so a trash can/ diaper pail would be the better option .. just a wish

I mean, if you don't use the changing table at all, then there isn't an issue with the changing table having a diaper bin on it, right?

The three basegame hoods all have separate, unique sets of townies, I believe. I think the subsequent ones, along with any custom hoods you create always have the Pleasantview townies.

Firstborn syndrome can happen if you load the game and don't roll the pacifier (either in CAS, or by using the Batbox or RPC), your sims have a baby, you save and quit the game. Then load the game again next time, don't roll the pacifier, the same sims have a baby, you save and quit the game. Rinse and repeat. It's likely you've encountered it at some point, but not certain you noticed it, since it's not easy to notice unless it creates a pattern of 2-3 or more sims.

I'd think if you load the game twice without rolling the pacifier, and a family get a girl in game load 1, then a boy game load 2, and the next baby after that (gender unspecified) is also born on game load 2, you'll have 3 sims with seemingly different faces - but if fallen victim to the firstborn syndrome, the girl and boy from round 1+2 could have identical genetics/details, obscured by them being different genders, at least if you don't look too close.

Like I said, I can't say I've noticed this happening, and I've played for a long time. I guess you'd have to do the "one baby per game load" for a while to notice.

I suppose then, that I don't understand how it happens or why... I don't roll the pacifier ever. my sims kids all look different and have different personalities. Some even have different skintones. Whatever it is I am doing, it's working. Malcolm Landgraab IV has a different face than his little sisters. Dustin and Angela's kids don't look alike and have different personalities. I got a family of McCoys with 9 kids... none of them look exactly alike. Gotta check the personalities next time i'm in game. Maybe it's not a game defect, and just the side-effect of a common mod I don't use... who knows? I have two brothers who look EXTREMELY different... one's got a face like a praying mantis, and the other's a blockhead. Perhaps I'm just lucky?

I noticed it a year or so after the game's release when I was doing a modified legacy challenge (where you start with one Sim and go through 10 generations in the same lot marrying townies but could never have more than 8 Sims living on the lot). I'd modified it so that each generation's "heir" had to have the same blue skintone that my original Sim had in order to proceed. Somewhere around Gen 3, the lot was getting full so I was having to wait for an elder Sim to die before my heir could Try For Baby again which meant that they weren't having more than one kid in a play session.

The pair had 3 or 4 kids in a row with "normal" pale skin and when I checked the genetics and nice/neat/playful/etc points they were all identical. It almost made me fail the challenge. There were no other families in that hood so the RNG was always the same starting out for that couple and they were never going to have a blue-skinned child to carry on the legacy. That's when I discovered the firstborn syndrome problem. Up to that point, heirs either had their blue-skinned kid right away or the lot wasn't so full that they could try again during the same play session and thus get a different RNG.

That's what I meant - separate sets per hood, same set each time they're generated.

Sims still have to put the diaper in the bin, and empty the bin later.
There are one-tile changing tables - you could try that for smaller spaces?

Yes, it probably does- here is where I summarised it:

http://www.modthesims.info/showthre...842#post2251842
The conclusions:
  • The batbox is not randomly seeded (so the rolls are non random)
  • The BHAV randomizer is not randomly seeded
  • The personality random number generator and the genetics random number generator are not random
  • Almost all of the random number generators in the game are broken
  • The seeding is done inside of the executable so the only way to fix is to patch the exe
  • Best solution for now is to roll the batbox or pacifier a random number of times
  • It is not possible to use a mod to do this as the Make New Character primitive actually creates new sims so would fill up your neighbourhood

The gender selection does seem to be random, though.

This is a good mootilda post to read on her findings:
https://modthesims.info/showthread....338#post3904338
Of course, LazyDuchess discovered how to change that seeding in the exe- by using asi injection.

I suppose then, that I don't understand how it happens or why...

You would probably only notice it if you run an unmodded game, as it seems many common mods which prevent all of the 'junk' happenings in the game, like loads of townies and NPCs being generated, will suppress the randomisers being triggered upon initial game play, so you're more likely to see this happen.

In the experiment my daughter and I did when testing this, we used two computers with the same gameversion, and we both created a neighbourhood and two test sims (mum and dad) with different eye, skin and hair colours. We made one sim pregnant by the other, and then played up until the baby was to be delivered. Than we saved the game and reloaded, so that the randomisers were reset to baseline. Then we played the birth, and checked the SimDNA of the offspring. We also aged up the baby to adult to check the features. We recorded the results, exited without save and repeated, over and over. So many times! We were sick of it. But, each time we got the SAME SimDNA results, and the same face. My daughter's babies were all identical. My babies were all identical. If we let the game play for any significant time- for example, if I played it long enough ro spawn a papergirl or walkby- we'd get a different kid, because those events use the randomiser, but as long as we used the same conditions for the birth each time, the randomiser always gave the same sim.

I was thinking about a plugin for SimPE so really ALL info of a certain sim can be extracted. I know it is possible to have a list of all sims in a hood with a lot of information, but I am ralking about ALL info. Like hidden skills, relationships, favourite food, hidden relationshios (like with their car)...etc.
That would be really helpful if one ever needs to rebuild a neighbourhood or build a custom one.

I saw passports today as deco item. How cool would it be if you can only book a vacation if you have a passport or plain ticket or so in the inventory?
I think it might be even possible to do!

If whoward made drivers licenses over on pick n' mix, this could probably be done, as well... Not sure I understand the need, but whatever... to each his own.
