I needed a few songs to test out my 'new' Technics SA-919 receiver. So I cherry picked these and been listening to them testing this thing out.

test 1 - the cymbals and orchestral elements are sharp and crisp, but the bass sounds muffled. Vocals have clarity over the other elements and are easy to hear. It sounds more theatrical on this receiver than my '90s Onkyo or modern BT speaker.

test 2 - mainly testing low frequencies and the loudness feature on the unit. This song is very 'thump' heavy and this receiver has a lot of 'thump', but crackles and distorts if too much bass is set. Not an uncommon thing for a 41 year old receiver honestly. This did come out during the cusp of the '80s loudness wars after-all.

test 3 - Guilty test admittedly, but it's a favourite song of mine from the same year of this unit (1985). So why not? After rebalancing and adjusting the bass level, turning off loudness and adjusting reverb settings, I'm hearing certain elements at better clarity on this receiver than I have on the other audio systems I have. I honestly puts the PS3+Onkyo a-sv210 combo to pure shame. No wonder I always loved Technics above all else. Fuck Sony, Goooo Technics!

Alas, poor Bonnie! She will annoy @ScaryRob a few more times though.

I love that you've found music that makes you feel that way!

And now for something completely different:

The first song is very familiar. I remember it from the Hawaii Five-0 TV series intro and I used to watch it when was younger because of my dad when there's not other interesting on TV.

Never heard of Spokanki before, but this song has Slavic folklore notes and it's magnificent. Definitely makes you have goosebumps!

Anyone know the name of this song or the artist?
There's no info given on the music and since the YT channel owner won't allow embeds, here's the link:

The song is Earthbound by Victor Lundberg.

I used Shazam to recognize it, and it's really good application I must say (they even made it available for Android devices ).

You're The Voice by John Farnham

POV: I love the fade out effect that 80s musicants used to put at the end of their songs! I read somewhere that they used this method to make the track to sound like it never ends or other that they didn't know how to make better outro.

Thanks for all that.
I downloaded Shazam once, but it didn't work for me. I figured my musical tastes were too weird. I'll try it again.
