Default Do You Think The Stories Series Is Worth Buying Today?
In case you did not know all 5 neighborhoods in the stories series were redone for the sims 2, the only thing you are missing out on is the actual story mode. In which is just a "Vary Short" scripted event scenario. That you need play through in order to unlock that neighborhoods freeplay mode. And the fact that the stories games are actually created for laptop usage and for computers that have trouble running the real game of the sims 2.

While the story is running you are restricted to one household, and ever since @marka93 pointed this out to me I uninstalled my stories series off my hard drive and now have these as a replacement., note you will need to run hoodchecker to fix some of corruption upon downloading not big at all. I love these hoods by the way

each scenerio lasts a vary short while and once you complete it you need to some reset the game in order to do it again.

Also? Is there a way to download the paint and floor tiles for this series and the unlockable objects like the pets trick equipment any help would be greatly appreciated

Stories to TS2 database - https://s22cdb.livejournal.com/ (the site hasn't been updated for a while, so there's probably more stuff around)

I only have Castaway out of the TS2-based Stories games. Haven't played it in a good long while, but it's different enough to be a fun addition to TS2 - with somewhat limited playability when you've been through the story aspects a few times. The scripted events are interesting enough, though. The added elements that are quite different from vanilla TS2 makes it a bit more fun to play through.

I have The Sims Castaway on PS2 but not on PC, However I could imagine The Sims Castaway stories would be a lot more enjoyable then Life and Pet Stories. I currently have both Life and Pet stories games but not Castaway stories.

Since you got the sims 2 I would not buy Life or Pets Stories it is the same game only with a few object and wallpaper as well as flooring not included in any expansion or stuff pack of the sims 2 base game.

I am SOOO thankful for those 2 links thank you soooo much

I am the typical one who has it installed and does not go beyond the first mission ... Maybe I'm older. My question is. Is play worth it? Can you have children and everything like in the sims 2?

I think they are worth trying out at least once, even if you download them instead of buying. Life and Pet Stories are much more like TS2 with a pack or two, but Castaway has more improvements, my favorite of them being larger lots up to 100x100. It's also nice that it requires a water tower and the power generator if you want to use plumbing and electricity. Also, the water and animals!

@Sokisims Yes, you can have children just like in The Sims 2.

You can even use some CC (for the sandbox play, not sure about the story modes), although not everything will work, and mods are a bit touch-and-go (I did use the OBJ version of the insimenator mod and infant default outfits last time I played, but can't remember if I tried anything else - the items would need to be lower than BV/Seasons in compatibility, and not entirely sure about other mods. Clothes may be a bit iffy, too. I don't think separates work).

I've played Life Stories and half of Pets and found them quite fun, I think if you're the kind of player who likes to play out the little scripted events in the main game (letting Daniel cheat and get caught, having Vidcund get abducted by aliens), you'll like them. Or if you enjoy pushing the game limits, you might want to try seeing if you can break the stories by doing things you're not supposed to do (I had Vincent woo his friend Sherman as well as the scripted Naomi romance). But if you're the kind of player who immediately deletes all the premade neighbourhoods and makes your own with no EAxis townies/downtownies/NPCs, well, you probably won't want these.

The first story in Life Stories has a story ending with having a baby then you can keep playing just like Sims 2 from birth to death.
Pets Stories has the elder life stage removed and it to you can have babies, I never played till anyone died so don't know how it worked after the stories were over.
Even with CS you can have babies and once again I never played till death took anyone though.

All 3 games are well worth the price and as long as you like scripted events then there well worth playing.
If EA would have keep putting out new stories or even just new hoods with story I would have bought all of them.

Have to agree that most are worth at least one playthrough, especially Castaway. I haven't played Pet Stories, but I know a lot of people enjoyed the new pet objects and competition stuff. I did enjoy playing Castaway, though--I have played it a couple of times and the story and gameplay is unique enough that I would recommend it. It would have been really cool if these were expansions for TS2, instead of standalone games, as there are some unique gameplay features in them that would have been nice to have in the main game.

Life Stories, however, is something you can totally skip. It really is just a scripted TS2 hood. But, unlike with the scripted events in the premade hoods, you have very limited ability to change the story or add to it. And I don't even really like Riley all that much. I mean, you can say that about all the Stories games--that they're heavily scripted and you can't mess around until the story is over. But, like I said, with Castaway and Pets, I feel like there's some unique features that make a playthrough worth it. I also found the writing in Castaway to be funny and entertaining. And visually, it's great. I mean, you might not notice it now, because everyone is playing an old game on a modern computer, but back in the day, Castaway was really pretty compared to your regular TS2 hood.

For Life Stories, though, just port all the objects into your regular TS2 game. It's a better experience, imo. I don't feel like the characters are worth getting to know, and the story is not all that great; it's really basic. Again, imo, the premade hoods have far superior backstories and are way more entertaining to play--and that's saying something because Life Stories is at least a couple of hours of scripted gameplay and pop ups that give you direct insight into Riley's personality. Whereas the premades are just a few lines of description, scattered across some bios; family albums and neighborhood photos with no accompanying text; and maybe a pop up or two. But those few details tell loads more story, maybe even because the details are so few.

It's funny, looking back, I can see how TSM came about--a lot of the things I hated from TSM seem to stem from the Stories series. Both have heavily scripted gameplay that don't let you deviate from the predetermined story, something I find absolutely weird in a sims game. With Castaway, I accepted it because, again, it's unique story. Idk; I just remember that there were moments when I was playing the Stories games and TSM were I was like, "but I don't want to do that." For Castaway that moment was when you're forced to move in an orangutan and in Life Stories and TSM, it's when you're forced to have a kid. The latter I find to be the most egregious because it cuts off several avenues players can take later, once sandbox play is opened up.

I have TSM too, and it's fun for a while, but once you've played through it a few times it kinda loses playability. It's even heavier with rabbit holes (and bear holes, etc.) than TS3, but some of the playable features are a bit fun. "Sandbox play" is maybe a stretch for the non-scripted parts, though.

I don't think the Stories games or Medieval are the ones meant for continuous playing and for sandbox-style players. They're more for light entertainment and for those who like scripted play, or want a new environment to play in (Castaway in particular, but also Medieval).

Personally I've never been too fond of scripted play (and if I can I probably will do what I can to circumvent it as long as possible, in any way possible). Having some kind of rough guide can be useful, but I don't always like being told exactly what to do and how to do it (where's the challenge in that?). To this day I don't think I've even played though a single one of the scripted TS2 events. I may have dabbled in a few of them either on accident or halfway on purpose, but not fully played them from beginning to end. I'm much more interested in making my own stories (and sims - the EAxis sims never really interested me much, to be honest).

So you can have a generational game without any problem? I say this because if I start to play the story, once I finish I would like to continue with the children, grandchildren ... What attracts me to free play in this case is the fact that it is a more restrictive game with other objects and maybe feels like a different game.

Thanks for the links, I love official items. I think I'll install all but the CS ones since I want to reinstall this hood soon and I don't know if there are repeating objects: https://modthesims.info/download.ph...=1&goto=newpost

Edit: I think I'm going to leave it for another time, I see that some objects require this https://sims2artists.com/index.php?topic=5122.0 and I know I'm going to mess up and destroy my game, I'd better do it another day that im more concentrated and really wants to add all the existing content of Stories.

edit2: I just put it, I'm going to see if I did it right. edit3: I got it!!! I hope to keep everything fine, I tend to destroy everything and at the moment I am getting all the official objects (store, maxis, stories) in an orderly way, all thanks to this forum! XD I can't be more in love with these objects, it's like having another expansion! :lovestruc

^ Not sure about the other Stories games, but in Castaway you can, at least with the sim you started out with. Your sim can have kids and all that. There are some limitations here and there, though. I don't think you can make a family in CAS, and I don't know what happens if the original sim dies, because I don't think I played that far.

Yes, all Stories games can have generational families like The Sims 2. In Pet Stories, though, it can get a bit weird because there are no elders. But the other two work just like The Sims 2.

In my opinion I don't think a person should buy Life Stories or Pets Stories unless,

A: Your a video game collector whos got to have it
B: You have Laptop or really old desktop computer uncapable of running The Sims 2
C: If you can find it real cheap

But that is my 2 cents, now that I've gotten all that extra content not originally included in any the sims 2 base game or expansion pack I'm good to go without out those 2 installed for now

I still play the stories games regularly. They're great for when you just want something uncomplicatef to play for a weekend, and they're a lot of fun.

I have the hoods in my regular TS2 game for when I want to keep playing after the story mode is over, but I still think the games are worth getting for the stories themselves.

Also castaway comes with a lot of features you can't replicate in TS2.

I wish there was more than 2-3 short stories to play, they are fun in my opinion but, are vary short, there should be a dedicated website just for the stories series to create more stories to play in my opinion and a faster easier way also to reset the story instead of deleting the My Documents EA games/Life Stories/Pet Stories folder. For those who just want to play the game for the heavily scripted story scenarios.

I like the Sims Stories games, Castaway in particular. They serve a certain need, when I’m more in the mood for a mission based game than Sims 2’s wide open sandbox. Sims 2 will always be my favourite game of the series, but when I need a break from it I’ll occasionally play Sims 3 or these. Though nowadays I only have them installed on an elderly MacBook Air with integrated graphics, as Sims 2 generates more heat than I’m comfortable with playing there for more than very short sessions. Given that all Sims games are very heavy handed with their CPU usage, a more lightweight game is still welcome for a machine with thermal constraints.

And I still love the look and unique gameplay of Castaway Stories. It’s a bit tricky to play on in the original hood after the scripted events are done, because the lack of roads makes it challenging to add new lots to allow population growth. But Mootilda found a way that works reasonably well:

https://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=275135

I also tend to switch a few lots between community and residential.

Sadly the Mac versions of the Stories games aren’t 64-bit compatible, so when my last computer running Mojave dies I’ll no longer have access to them. They were withdrawn from sale a couple of years back. But while I still have something I can run them on I plan to keep them installed for when I fancy a change.

I'm probably parroting others, but I decided to put my opinion in anyway: I never legitimately owned the games, but I played all of them before in my early college years. I absolutely loved them, but I immediately got frustrated by the lack of content. Eventually I found out about the remakes on here, and fast forwarding to today I've got all of em including the Castaway sims linked together in one big Megahood. I plan to give them the fulfilling life they were deprived of!

I really don't think it's necessary to buy the discs though because the TS2 versions exist, and the stories themselves were definitely in need of some "animation polish". Other than the animations, they are very charming games and I really love all the characters <3 It would've been a lot better if they had just added them into TS2, but I guess that would've kept others with lower-end computers from enjoying them too?

The biggest thing I dislike in those games is the obvious corruption and glitches. I noticed that during certain events when memories are automatically added, duplicates pop up and make the memory panel look like a mess. There's no way of even fixing it from what I've seen. Also in Pet Stories there's no elder life stage which I find to be quite strange and all the more reason to just download the remade hoods.
