Honestly, if they go full Age of Empires II/Age of Mythology, and make some new EPs for their older titles, I'm not sure I'd even be mad. The Sims 2 particularly is a far better foundation for new game play than 4 afterall.... Even though it would turn modders lives into a nightmare if they go as far as AoE 2 has... Swings and roundabouts...

We can dream of new EPs! How did AoE go too far?

They added 10 new expansions since the HD edition's original release. Admittedly, the originaal basegame only had one but still... To give a little context, back before the remaster and later remake, the game had 18 playable civs and 9 campaigns... There are now 45 civs and 43 campaigns.

Now, I love The Sims 2 dearly, but even if they could make a bunch of new EPs without ruining the game's vibe or gameplay, I don't think The Sims 2 could handle being increased to more than double it's content and still be even remotely playable...

I think 2-4 EPs to add some of the more conspicuously absent stuff to the game would be nice... Stuff like a Craft Aspiration, a beach system update to work more like Castaway Stories... Missing iconic Sims 1 content, winemaking, full on water lots, roadless lots, off grid gameplay, implementing the power outage scenario, revamping the magic system and witches (Seriously frustrating how the best sims game has by far the weakest magic system. Even 4 did better), maybe a few more occults like mermaids and fairies, etc. Stuff like that... Though that'd probably be asking too much from EA...

Tbh, I don't want new packs for Sims 2 and there are quite a few reasons for my thought process.

1) New packs might not fit well with the established Sims 2 gameplay and humor.

With societal culture having changed since TS2's original release, new packs would try to shoe-horn new culture and mix it with the old. Leaving an unbalanced and uncanny mess as a result. It could make TS2 feel dry and uninspired like TS4, a game where every character feels the same and the old returning characters don't even act the way they should.

2) Incompatibility. They might not even work on the UC/Retail and might be Butcher edition exclusive.

Since UC and retail are no longer sold, I wouldn't put it pass EA to do a shit move like this and leave us old timers with copies of the proper game in the dust.

3) Mods. Think of all the mods and potentially CC that would need to be updated.

Many of the creators that have created mods and CC throughout the years have moved on or have even passed away (RIP Mootilda). No one wants to have 21 years of the game's modding community undone simply because EA's cash cow is moo-ing and needs to be milked again.

Honestly this whole 25th anniversary is a nostalgia trip and money maker for EA. Remember the last game they programmed for the franchise was Sims 4 which is literally so bad that potatoes refuse to run it.

EA can't be arsed to program a decent game any more, and even if they did anything approaching the stuff we're used to, they'd screw it up so badly we'd never have enough decent modders to correct all the mistakes they'd make.

No, take that nostalgia trip and put it where the sun does not shine because they're incapable of making a new Sims game that will ever be better than their first 2 titles.

Nothing else will ever surpass them.

Leave well enough alone and leave us with the games we have.

Stop trying to improve on the past because it's not possible.

Oh, it is most assuredly possible... But are EA and modern Maxis up to the task? I'm gonna say no. I don't think they even want to.

But as much as I think Microsoft when overboard with AoE II, it proved that one can make expansions for old games without them feeling out of place if you wish. They hired some of the most talented modders of the original release, gave them access to the source code and let them cook. And everything they made before the remake slotted into the original game perfectly on an artistic and gameplay level... If they could do it, EA could too... The only question at hand is: Would they?

Would they put the experience first and let the sales flow from that? Or continue their absurd tactics to try to trick people into buying subpar content.

You should ask the Sims 4 players about that little problem. EA has no problem nickle and diming them to death for content we had standard in the game.

Sims 2 had fewer EP's and SP's with more content.

Facts:

Sims 1 received 7 Expansion packs.

Sims 2 had 8 expansion packs and 9 "stuff packs"

Sims 3 received 11 Expansion packs.

Sims 4 has had 17 expansion packs (EPs) and 12 stuff packs (SPs) released.

It's not necessarily anything 'more' than the previous iterations, but having the same stuff doled out piecemeal for more money.

Sims 3 also had stuff packs, and a whole heap of Store content, not to forget. That one was also a "nickle-and-diming" scheme (every item at the Store cost, but you could buy them in bundles).

They tried the same with Sims 2, but I don't think it was as popular (and the two "must-have" items for babies were quickly made available anyway, so there's that - you don't mess with TS2 players ).

EA has a cash cowplant. It takes the life from Sims players to extend EA's life as a company.

... Look at my previous message. The implied answer is no, but one can dream.

I feel like the RAM thing is a bit misleading - they say "If your computer has a lot of RAM, the game will be able to use it".

Is 4GB A LOT of RAM? In 2025?? I mean maybe in 2004, 4GB would have been an insane amount of RAM but these days? Looking at budget laptops 4GB seems to be the absolute minimum you can even buy. I bet EA employees aren't going around working on computers with 512mb of RAM, to think that 4GB is a lot 0_o

The standard for RAM now is about 8 GB in any new computer.

It's the lowest amount I could find when I was shopping for a new one.

It's more than enough to run the game, but the game only normallyaccesses 2 in operating, and it should be able to access 4, to run properly-and that's why they have the 4gig patch to be able to access more than 2 while running it.
