Default SimsPE and Steam
Please tell me how to get SimsPE to work with Steam and The Sims2 Legacy. The files are in a different place than Origin. Actually, all I want to do is to edit my sim's relationships, skills and bring Bella back to life. If I can't get SimPE to work, is there any other way I can do these things in Steam? Thank you very much.

SimPE points to the user files, which are still located on your computer, so you need to find where your game is installed, and where your "savegame" is (the location of the Downloads folder, basically).

The paths shouldn't be too different from the Origin paths, but will have a different base folder.

You can set the correct paths in "Extra --> Properties --> System Folders" and you likely also need to check that the proper packs are ticked in "Properties --> File Table"

The install paths point to the main individual EP/SP/BG folders, either in Program Files or wherever else you've installed the game, probably under "Steam Games --> The Sims 2 Legacy" or something like that (can't check, I don't have this version). The Savegame path should point to the "The Sims 2 Legacy" folder located somewhere in Documents.

---

Keep in mind that there could still be unresolved issues with the Legacy game, so make sure to backup the savegame files before editing anything with SimPE (backuping is a good idea even with other versions, too).

Thank you for your speedy reply. Actually, On Steam TheSims files are in the :\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Saved Games\Electronic Arts\The Sims 25 folder, and boy did I had a hard time finding the
YOURUSERNAME folder! Giggler

Thanks for the advice! I'll try compatibility mode or mods.

Forgive me for the minor hijack, but I've been trying to get SimPE to work to no avail. I have added all the current file locations for SavedGames and the EPs in Preferences but still get the error the the folder was not found and to 'specifiy the correct SaveGame Folder in the Options Dialog'. The file is, I assume, the default one, not the one for Legacy, so it's continually looking in the wrong place. I don't see anything called 'Options Dialog'.

Any help would be appreciated. I only wanted to change a surname...

Not quite sure what you mean by [the difference between?] the default one and the Legacy one - if you just have the Legacy one, that's the one you want SimPE to point toward.

The Savegame location is the folder that's usually in the Documents location, where all the files for the currently played game is - not the folders for the installed game.

Which SimPE version are you using? I think one or two of them have had some issues with the folder paths.

Forgive me for being vague. There was a file path when I first opened SimPE, which was not the Legacy one so I updated it. Both times it returned the error. After I input the correct pathway, it clearly didn't recognize it/save it because the old pathway was written in the error message. I hope that makes more sense.

I'm using version 0-73-44-37511.

Have you tried with one of the newer versions?

I know I had some path issues spesifically with the 0.73 version when I installed the UC (the folders were renamed from the original version, so likely caused a similar problem), so it could be there's something going on there. At the moment I'm using 0.75f (this one does have a few annoying issues, but had the pathing fixed, at least for the UC - There are at least a couple newer versions after this one, and those likely work better with non-standard paths).

I didn't know there were multiple versions; I followed a link from a Simmers site, but I guess it was old. Do you have a link you could recommend? Thanks for your help.

I can see the 75 version, but not the 79? It's a very overwhelming post (for me anyway).

The 75 and 77 version are at the top of the list. I don't think there's a 79 version.

Yes, sorry; I'm extremely tired and got my numbers mixed up. Thank you.

I installed the 77 version and still got the error. I updated all the pathways under Preferences, but still got the error. It is still looking in the wrong place despite me telling it the correct pathway. Is there somewhere else I need to correct the pathway? It says to specify the correct SaveGame Folder "in the Options dialogue", but I don't see anything that says Options.

I ran a System Check and it says the Sim Folders don't point to the "correct places" and that the "SimPe File Table" doesn't "contain the needed files".

Thank you for any help with this.
