This user has the following games installed:

Sims 3, World Adventures, Ambitions, Late Night, Generations, Pets, Showtime, Supernatural, Seasons, University Life, Island Paradise
Default *RESOLVED* How to access installed content in my game
I have googled and googled this, and can never find an answer, so maybe there isn't one. I purchased a clothing item from the Store. I installed it successfully years ago. I have since removed the simp3pack from the downloads folder. I'm guessing I deleted the sim3pack. Now, I want to edit the file, so I re-downloaded the file from the Store again. Except this new file, even though from the Store and not a bootleg, is corrupt - the upper body shows up as missing, a black hole in the chest and upper left arm. I had tried editing it in TSRW, which I have used successfully many times. Thinking it was a rendering only issue, I saved my edit and and uploaded it to the game, but it's a black hole in CAS too.

So my question is, where does the data for all the installed sims3packs get stored once installed, and the sim3pack is removed from the downloads folder? Because I would like to access the file to edit it. The original file I installed years ago is still showing up as whole and uncorrupted in CAS. Since I can't edit the new file, what are my options? I hope this makes sense, and makes it to someone who can assist me. Thanks!

it's in DCCache folder, but the laucher makes a lot of copies in DCBackup as well, so delete those copies but leave the ccmerged alone.

Thank you for the response, but I’m looking for an individual file I can extract so I can edit one particular article of clothing. There are only 51 items in my DCCache folder, and none of them are individual files. They’re all named dcdb1, dcdb2, etc. Maybe I’m not explaining myself properly on what I’m looking for. But again, I appreciate the reply.

dude, that's where literally all the contents go when you install sims3pack files through launcher. they will all be combined to one big chunk of dbc (non store) or ebc (store) files and you gotta dig through in it if you're looking for a specific item. if you want to install as individual file, you need to convert it to package.

I've never seen that many packages in DCCache? But the way EA does things, you end up with several things in (in my game 3 or 4) large packages, that don't separate individual packages well in s3pe.

If you still have the original sims3pack, a couple things you might try...

MAKE A BACKUP!!!!!

Remove the files from DCCache, and put them in a folder on desktop. Then reinstall that one sims3pack thru the launcher. I have never needed to try this, so I'm just spitballing. With luck, you'll have that one package generated in DCCache.

To find and remove that package from whichever dcdb it's in is more work. In s3pe, copy the instance ID. Open the first dcdb in s3pe. On the top row of the bottom set, check the box for instance and paste the ID number. To the left, check Filter Active, then click Set. Repeat this on each dcdb, until you have the CASP, and possibly thumbnail of the file you're looking for.

Select the CASP. Uncheck the Filter Active box. Here's the problem... With regular merged packages, you can select Name or Chucnk Offset, and everything associated to that CASP will be together. Dcdb packages break things up.

Honestly, to avoid deleting something that might be part of another package, just delete the CASP. Then make a whole new package in TSRW.

Shiny, happy people make me puke!

While helpful, that was way beyond my comprehension. If I had the original sim3pack, I wouldn’t be going through all this trouble. The new one I downloaded from the Store is borked for some reason, but the original that I added to the game years ago is fine. But frankly, the process you described is both confusing (to me) and not worth all the hassle it seems this would be, just to edit the color of an overlay. Thanks for your response and wisdom though!
