This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Free Time, Apartment Life
Default The Sims 2 Base Game CAS crash after clicking the checkmark
At this point, I will have to note all my problems and their solutions in my signature, because I can’t keep track how to fix the game when I uninstall or install certain packs.

Problem is, I applied 4GB patch thing and graphic maker program thing made it work the first time I fixed my base game. Now, the white flash CAS and the game crashes right after rinishing creating a Sim. I’m not sure what I’m forgetting to do, because normally the game works fine unless I miss a step.

P.S. I tried downloading mod that suppose to fix CAS graphic issue, but as the only mod file in the folder it left me with pink soup.

P.S. Sorry for my bad english.

First, check that your game can write to your userdata file.

So, check that your antivirus is excluded from on-access scanning your Documents/ EA Games folder, and that this folder is not being synched to OneDrive.

i don't seem to be logged in to One Drive, and antivirus is uninstalled. Can you elaborate on the first part? I might be not 100% as to what it means.

Well, when you make a sim in CAS, it is written to the disk as a file when you accept the family and exit CAS. This is the point at which your game is crashing, so it is logical to surmise that the game is being prevented from writing the file correctly.

Can you save lots correctly?
Have you tested without custom content?

Exactly which issue are you seeing in CAS (picture/screenshot would be useful), and which mod did you try?

The "White flash" sounds to me like the "picture-taking" before CAS loads out and into the hood.
If there's any other white flashing (items flashing white...), that's not normal.

If you've uninstalled anything recently, chacnes are there's a mod or item (possibly related to CAS) that's causing problems, so try without CC/mods, like simsample said.

Is there a reason why you uninstall/reinstall packs (especially if you've successfully installed them before)? If you do multiple reinstalls/uninstalls, the registry (among other things) can clog up with issues, plus the game can in some cases get unstable, sometimes even not installing packs properly (loss of graphical elements, etc.).

As for using GraphicRulesMaker, even that one can give slightly unstable results sometimes, at least if you don't set it up properly and tick the right boxes.

Actually, I cannot. I noticed with the save button, but not when exiting to the neighborhood view/mode (it does seem to save after accepting it in the prompt. Will have a look into this and see if it solves. Thanks

@simmer22 just wanted to play differently / relive the days when packs gradually were installed after their releases.

Ok, so the problem persist. I will have to probably relook some threads and redo the steps of tools and modifications that prevent crashes. Wish though the information was narrowed down, since its cumbersome having through go lengthy hoops to experiment and kills the patience to fix it when one or two things don’t fix it

I think in most cases, the 4GB patch and fixing GraphicRules should get the game into a working state. The new pink-flash/memory patch by Spockthewok might help, too.

Some people might want the DXVK, Memory Allocation, and various other fixes, but not all are useful, and some experience more trouble with those.

Have you considered using AGS? That way you can have everything installed, but you can choose between and test out various compilations of packs.

Only works with CDs (not the newer collections), and there's a diferent version for UC.

Which mod?

AGS seem to me to complicated, as that program creates additional files and shortcuts that made it confusing to use and grasp for me. As for which mod I had, it was Lazy Duchess's. Last time I think I solved that issue with a cheat code, if not the programs that prevented crashing.

I feel like the issue might be with the number of force texture memory. It might not be saving after every play session.

Another possibility, maybe the 4GB patch didn't work or graphictoolsmaker?

ETA: Ok I was correct. I figured out that I needed to check TS2's generate log file and it shows my memory is 3980MB. Will see if I can fix that.

Nope, it doesn't change :/

How much RAM does your computer (and graphics card) have? And what did you put as Texture Memory in the GRM?

If the patch is correctly applied and you have enough memory/RAM, the number should be
Memory: 4096MB
Free memory: 4096MB
(You should ideally have 8 GB or more to use the patch, as the later Windows versions plus any background programs can use quite a bit of RAM in idle mode. 6 GB can work, but that's stretching it)

(If remember correctly, the "Texture memory" line further down is dependent on what's available to the game as vRAM, and/or what's set in the GrapicRuleMaker or the original GraphicRules file).

If your game is installed in Program Files, copy the EXE file for your current highest EP to the destop (needs to be the actual game EXE, not the launcher. The patch most likely doesn't work with the launcher), apply the patch there, and replace the file.
You can also do the same with the GraphicRule file (or save a copy to the desktop, then replace).
Program Files has some extra Windows protection, so some changes won't stick.
Make a shortcut to the EXE file after it's been replaced, and use this to start your game (don't use the launcher).
