His correct path was blocked by a pedestrian or something like that, so he decided to go into the garden as the next best option. He can't go on the raw cement or the asphalt, and deep snow makes his routing more temperamental. The front yard is fenced in with bushes to prevent dogs from digging. The mailbox can be used because the bush automatically has person intersection.

I let the postman enter gates because I pictured a different kind of large building where mailboxes are by the entry door. But I need to change it back to not allow him through and thus prevent this.
