Absolute Power (1997): One final heist for a career thief leads to the discovery of an extra-marital affair, murder, and a cover-up inside the apex of government power.
My Comment: One of countless "newer" films that seem to just be a bunch of "action" scenes strung together to kind of form a story, but with a lot of plot holes all over the place, not to mention realism goofs. Thanks to IMDb for listing them. Barely mediocre.

King Hark and Rosen's Condiment Quest (2025): I don't even know if most of ya would count this as a movie, but it's a feature-length YTP with an overarching storyline and multiple arcs that's like if the Austin Powers and Leslie Nielsen movies got together and slammed some DMT. Wild and funny as it is endearing, as well as a grand celebration of YTP history.
10/10 Watched it twice in the same week, it is now a new comfort movie.

Kiss Her Goodbye (1959): The story of a young woman struggling with her sanity, whose brother attempts to look after her with the help of a kind waitress.
My Comment: A weird one, especially for 1959.

Dark Places (2015): A woman who survived the brutal killing of her family as a child confronts the events of that day with the help of a crime-obsessed secret society.
My Comment: Similar to the film 'Absolute Power', which I watched a few days ago and commented on (three comments above), this one is based on a novel, supposedly a New York Times bestselling novel, according to Wikipedia. Honestly, I stopped taking NY Times bestsellers seriously decades ago, if I ever did (at least not fiction). Typically for a "newer' novel that this film is based on, there are endless, unimportant little twists and turns that in the end amount to nothing. There's no suspense, no "Aha!" moment(s), just an endless string of complications, hints, minor and major characters that the viewer is supposed to keep track of without any discernable purpose. With a half hour to go, I just wanted it to end.

All Good Things (2010): Based on a true story, the scion of a New York real estate empire is suspected of murdering his wife, who disappeared mysteriously in the early 80s.
My Comment: Takes over 20 minutes to get going, but after that it's moderately interesting. Finally a watchable film again, although still only on the lower end of Good.

The Visit (2015): Two siblings become increasingly frightened by their grandparents' disturbing behavior while visiting them on vacation.
My Comment: I'm a little embarrassed to say I watched this childish drivel, although it turned out not to be as bad as the first few scenes seemed to predict. Two siblings, a barely-teen girl and her preteen brother, attempt to video document a weeklong visit with their maternal grandparents, whom they had never previously met. There's overall creepiness, a few jumps scares, a humorous touch of Hansel & Gretel, and a reasonably good ending. Unfortunately, the siblings' preoccupation with their cameras and laptop ruins the atmosphere most of the time.

Saw II (2005): A detective and his team must rescue eight people trapped in a factory by a man known as Jigsaw.
My Comment: I'm sure most people have seen at least some of the Saw films. If you haven't, they're some of the better horror films of the last 20 years. I think I watched them up to Saw IV, years ago. I'd forgotten the endings to them, so I'm watching them again, except the original. I'll probably also watch Saw III, maybe tomorrow or within the next few days, because it's also on Tubi (edit: It's no longer on Tubi.)

Apollo 11 (2019): A documentary that looks at the Apollo 11 mission to land on the moon.
My Comment: All sound, photos and film footage are original and high quality, with no added narration. Some parts have ambient music added. A stunning production.

True Grit (1969) I have to admit that I've never been the greatest fan of westerns in general, but there are exceptions and this was one of them. It had a good story to tell, and engaging characters. John Wayne was, of course, always John Wayne - with or without an eye patch - but there is no doubt that Marshal Rooster Cogburn was one of his most memorable roles. Kim Darby as feisty teenager Mattie Ross was just superb. Also starred Glen Campbell (who sang the theme song) as Texas Ranger LaBoeuf. All three are out to capture the same bad guy, and it is the often comic interplay between the three that makes the story so compelling. (10/10 - Honestly I couldn't find any good reason to deduct a point, even for being a western).

Legend is history as we would like it to be. We pick through the dusts of time for what is worth keeping and, here and there, we occasionally find treasure.

Apollo13: To The Edge And Back (1994): Apollo 13 was supposed to be the third human spacecraft to successfully land on the moon and return home safely, when, 250,000 miles from earth, these words pierced the vastness of space: "Houston, we have a problem." This documentary uses interviews with the actual astronauts, family members and NASA engineers that were there, combined with archival news footage, to tell the true story of Apollo 13.
My Comment: I first saw this many years ago. Similar to 'Apollo 11', which I watched about a week ago, this is another very good production. Note that this is a documentary, not the 1995 Hollywood film.

Addendum: I was surprised that the documentary did not show the several pictures the astronauts took of the damaged service module after they detached from it, but they're on the 'net, here: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=apollo+13...ages&iax=images

On The Beach (1959): After World War III has ended life in the Northern Hemisphere and as the fallout heads for Melbourne, a submarine of scientists investigate cryptic signals.
My Comment: This is almost entirely a boring romance film, with a post-nuclear theme loosely tacked on. It took me three sittings to make it through the 2 hours 15 minutes and I didn't enjoy a minute of it. The lowlight of the film is when a sailor sits in a small fishing boat and the submarine pulls up alongside, submerged but with the periscope up, and the sub captain has a conversation with the guy in the boat. One of the worst films starring several big-name actors I've ever seen.

The Menu (2022): A couple’s visit to a celebrity chef’s exclusive island restaurant takes a horrifying turn when they are served nothing but shocking surprises.
My Comment: Apparently (obviously?) inspired by the over-the-top, obnoxious antics of Gordon Ramsay, smothered in a thick layer of Soup Nazi, and topped with a sprinkling of Lynchean surrealism. Somewhat bizarrely humorous, but only barely good. Nah, changed my mind, it's only mediocre.

Sole Survivor (1970 TV Movie): This story is loosely based on the discovery of the B-24 "Liberator" bomber the "Lady Be Good" that was found in the Libyan desert after the crew got lost on their 1st bombing mission to Italy.
