So it turns out that the game had the same flags for pet jobs that it does for university-required jobs, and the old version of the code to check whether a sim had a university degree was also somehow giving pets degrees? I'm not quite sure how it worked, but I think I've sorted out a fix - just download the new "PetJobs" package and add it to your KittyCarey-DoctorsNeedDegrees-Careers folder (it is now in that folder by default for download, but you don't need to download the whole thing again if you've already got it).

Sorry for missing that - I don't play with pet jobs, and so while I tested adult and teen jobs fairly thoroughly, I didn't test pet jobs as well as I should have.

thanks for that quick update for those conflicts!

i'm currently editing some of the careers, but one of the careers i want to edit (gamer) isn't in the careers folder. i notice that adventurer and criminal are missing too, i'm assuming because they don't care about education by default. but, i have a default replacement for gamer so i'd really like to tweak it a bit. is this possible?

They are missing because they don't care about education by default. I should have realised that of course people are going to want to change that. I have now added a folder to download called "Unused Careers" that contains package files for the three missing careers. Go edit those as you would like and then move your edited file into the Careers folder with all the rest.

Is it possible to have a version without 2 or 3 year diploma? Great mod, I have it for a long time now. <3

This is an option best created yourself, and hopefully with the new version it should be easy enough to do.

Open up each career in SimPE. In the main box you will see four different files - you want the BCON file called "Education Requirements by Level". Click on that, and it will open up in the box at the bottom. Look for any levels that have "3" (that's the education points for a partial university degree) and turn it into either a "2" (if you want that level to be open to sims without any further education but at least a C in high school) or "4" (if you want that level to be for sims with a full degree). Press "Commit" and then "Save" and that career is all set - then repeat the same steps for all of the other careers.

Hello, it's me! I like the changes you made from v1.4 to v2, but sadly it does create a few conflicts with my complex mod setup that weren't there before. Here's those that you don't seem to have addressed yet.

Firstly, the Careers "modules" for Artist, Education, Law, Medicine, NaturalScience, Paranormal, Science and ShowBusiness conflict with Phaenoh's Major Revamp which links majors to different careers and also changes which careers require a degree in the first place. I understand that the second feature of that mod is incompatible but it'd be nice to have the first feature, so I think it'd be great if you could either incorporate that feature into your mod or make a version that is compatible.

Secondly, Unselectable Careers by Pick'N'Mix conflicts. I use this to make a custom "Self-Employed" career not appear in the Job Search, so it'd be great to have some compatibility there somehow.

Thirdly, Lamare's Ask Before Promotion is another new conflict. Maybe it's possible to give this choice after the chance to be promoted despite not meeting the requirements has already been rolled and satisfied? If not, I can take it out, too. I don't necessarily need it.

Fourthly, Nopke's Restricted Job Offers is an old conflict, but can you verify that his mod still makes the same changes as before in v2(.2)?

Finally, piqiwi's Afterwork Activity has some text conflicts, maybe you can try to incorporate the strings?

Thanks in advance!

I can ask Phaenoh about making a mod that combines this one and theirs, but this is also something that you can fix fairly easily yourself just by loading Phaenoh's mod after my career packages. If you want to use my rules for getting jobs in Education, Law, Medicine, Natural Science and Science, you'll need to open up Phaenoh's mod in SimPE, find BCON 1056 for each of those careers, and change the second line from 7FF (needs 4 education points with my mod) to 3FF (needs 2 education points with my mod).

Also, if you're playing with the 3YD option version 2.2, standard degrees only give 3 education points and won't allow your sims to get the careers Phaenoh requires a degree for. To fix that and still require a degree, change the second line from 7FF (needs 4 education points) to 5FF (needs 3 education points). If you're using the 2YD version, you don't need to do this.

This is achievable with this mod (clearly I should add instructions on the main page about it). Open up your custom career, and find the BCON 1056, and enter FFF into the second line. This will make it unselectable in (I think) the same way as Pick'N'Mix's version.

Adding an option to ask before a promotion for at least some jobs & levels is on my list of things to include, and when I do I can easily make a patch to ask for all careers and levels, but it is not there yet. Otherwise, assuming there isn't a conflict with the Dialog prim string set, you can just make sure my mod loads last and then you will be asked about standard promotions but not about networking promotions.

Make sure my mod loads after theirs and you should be fine. I have changed the conflicting code, but it shouldn't mess up that one.

I will have a look at that one, and incorporate the strings if possible.

Thanks for the detailed explanation, but I think you misunderstood my intent. I want to use their "major affiliates" (which majors are "recommended" to enter which careers) and your "major unlocks" (how many education points are needed to even get into a career).

I did it myself just now, so I put 03FF for every career that needs a degree to enter with your mod, and 0000 for every career that doesn't, and used their affiliates.

Going to leave it here in case someone else wants to do the same.

I've asked Phaenoh about uploading a couple of other versions, but for now you'll need to have that mod load last, or update yourself - which it looks like you've got sorted.

Ignore my previous comment - I've now updated to remove the conflict.

Make my mod load last, and also download the "Ask About Network Promotions" patch, and it should all work as required.

Ignore my previous comment - the common code is unchanged, so the mods are compatible in either order.

Updated to include the strings.

Thank you for all the links, which made it easier to find all the mods I needed and get compatibility working.

Thanks so much for this! I have a question about a university graduate with a specific inventory token theoretically having 5 points. Is this intended to work with your Degrees for Doctors mod (thanks for that one, too!)? If so, does this mean that if I change a career's BCON "Education Requirements by Level" value to be 5 for one of the levels, that level will be open to a sim that is granted a Masters/MD/PhD via your Globe of Advanced Degrees but not to regular university graduates? And finally, if yes to both above, does each type of token (Masters/MD/PhD) lead to the same points (5), or does an MD/PhD lead to more than a Masters? Thanks again; I'm looking forward to implementing this into my game!

Yes, this is intended to work with my Degrees for Doctors mod, but it's not quite that simple.

If you change the BCON "Education Requirements by Level" value to be 5 for one or more levels, you also have to tell the mod (a) that 5 points are earn-able for this career, and (b) what a sim needs to have to earn themself a 5. To do the first one, you need to turn the first entry from 0 to 1 (this says "5 points are an option"), and to do the second you need to enter the GUID for the token that sims need to have into the relevant entries further down. Enter these as hex numbers, because that's what the game works with.

For example, if you want your Science career sims to have a PhD for some levels, you would put "D9B0" in the GUID#1 box (sorry, I can't remember exactly what I called them) and "B503" in the GUID#2 box (because "KittyCarey - Token - PhD" has GUID D9B0B503). Make sure the very first entry has a 1, and then you can turn some of the levels from 4 to 5 and sims can only get promoted to those levels if they have a PhD.

If you want Medicine career sims to have an MD for some levels, you would put "D9B0" in the GUID#1 box and "B506" in the GUID#2 box (because "KittyCarey - Token - MD" has GUID D9B0B506). Then your sims in Medicine need an MD (and a PhD does nothing).

I am currently working on a redesign of the Science career that will (a) allow sims to earn a PhD at work and then (b) require the PhD for subsequent promotions, but it's not done yet. When it is, I will upload it to MTS.

Hi, I just started using this mod and I have an issue. It doesn't allow me to pick some careers through Simanipulator. I assume it's because their job level would be too high, if they chose this specific career. Could you make it so that it just gives that Sim a lower level instead of just not allowing at all?

Can you please give me some more info about how you're getting this error? I assume you're using the Sim Manipulator found here? What happens when you try to choose a career with my mod, and what happens without my mod? Which level do they get? Which careers are a problem?
