Yep, can vouch for this. I remember being 14 and stalking Ebay and going to the mall to try and get the game cheaper. Was $50 for a long, long time. Anytime expansions were on my Christmas wishlist, relatives would get the stuff packs because they were cheaper. Console games were also $50-60 new during this time, but got discounted faster than PC games.

Also guys, are the games really filled with bugs like Kestrellyn said? I don't know because i haven't played TS1 and TS2 legacy collection yet; but i did play Sims 2 with only M&G, and The Sims 2 Starter-Pack and Sims 1 Starter Pack (which i deleted).

I don't know if any of you played the re-releases. I'd like to know so i can have another reason to come after the EA CEO.

there is a huge bug that doesn't allow you to close the custom skins window, the only way if you clicked it is to close the case and return to the neighborhood. for now I have found the lot catalogue, or rather many quite functional lot catalogues, but no savedsims. I haven't found any other bugs yet.

Well, doesn't he Saved Sims folder only appear after you save sims? Have you tried creating one and putting it in the documents folder?

When my game was new, there were already a lot of entries in the Saved Sims folders. I think there were already some files in the Saved Sims folder. They were all the Sims made by Maxis as suggestions for what you might make in Body Shop. These Sims are also available in CAS as Sims you might choose to bring into your game. In use it's where anything you make in Body Shop (Sims, clothes, Accessories etc.) goes when you click on Save to Game.

Sims who are actually in your game won't be in Saved Sims -- they'll be in the Characters subfolder of whatever Neighbourhood they're in.

If there's no Body Shop, there won't be anything in Saved Sims, nor any way to put anything there, at least not any way provided by EA/Maxis.

[EDIT] Corrected in the light of jonasn's post below. I thought all the Sims I saw then available to clone in Body Shop must have been in the SavedSims folder, but I now see they must have come from that globalcatbin.bundle.package that jonasn mentioned. But the SavedSims folder is where everything I have made in Body Shop is stored.

The base sims to clone in CAS or Body Shop come from Catalog\Bins\globalcat.bundle.package. There was never dozens or hundreds of files in the SavedSims directory unless the player created them in Body Shop.

So Body Shop is one more thing the new version doesn't have? Jesus. This is essential for blending faces with fine control.

Sorry, I should have checked. I do have a very old backup, which would tell me how many files were in SavedSims when I had only been playing for a few days. I know mine won't be empty because I started making Sims and clothes in Body Shop before I even opened the game. So I'm glad I had Body Shop from the very start!! Andrew started life in Veronaville wearing home-made underpants under his Maxis clothes!

I was thinking about giving this new version as a present to my niece, but I certainly won't be doing that till it's properly patched! I trust that EA will patch it!

Hmm, that's strange, this is the exact method I tried and it didn't show up. I'll try the files from the archive linked in that post and try again, maybe it was because I used the contents of the SP8 folder from my UC installation?

It looks like there will be patches, I'm hoping someone will be able to tell us the game engine version (you know the little number you see at the top of the screen when in debug mode), and also the expansion pack version (remember how neighbourhoods made with the store edition won't open for other players, so this has an impact on sharing CC).

At the moment, it's looking like Sims 1 Legacy might be a better buy than Sims 2 Legacy!

Has anyone checked if SimPE works with the re-release?
I'm in the middle of my machinima project, and I'm a bit afraid to run the completely new version of the game.

Also, have the screenshot and video resolution issues been fixed? Before, you could change the game’s resolution, but in-game screenshots were still not large enough.
Additionally, when recording high-quality videos, the files used to get corrupted if they exceeded the 4GB limit.

Does anyone know if this has been fixed?

It doesnt matter whether it is or not. Immersive sim is a specific type of game and the Sims 2 is not.

Sometimes, the game (or Bodyshop) can refuse to start, or crash, because of items in the SavedSims folder. Whether it's because there are too many items there, or because the items are borked - not sure. I usually move my files over to the Downloads folder after they're done (and edited). They work fine there too, and there's rarely any reason to keep lots of files in SavedSims. In there I mostly keep the last CAS file(s) I've worked on (to keep the count for the Sortidx - I'm usually too lazy to edit the number on all the files, especially when it's capable of counting up on its own), and maybe the odd other file.

The Savedsims folder regenerate when starting Bodyshop, and I think also the game (can't remember, can't bother to check). It's empty when you first make a new hood, and it's also empty for the base hoods (if it's there).

Yeah, for me, when I make a new TS2 folder (like for a hood I want to have different cc), the Saved Sims and Packaged Lots folder don't automatically show up after the game runs and recreates all the folders. Saved Sims I usually make myself because I copy over my saved templates. I think it gets created when you're in Bodyshop--there might be a point where it gets created in game, too, but I doubt it because I don't think there's a way to save sims' appearances in CAS, right? And similarly, the Packaged Lots folder gets created when you save a lot. There might be another folder that gets created as needed--but I can't recall right now.

I wonder if CEP works, though...

Thank you, I'll test that. I have the UC and I'm mostly just dabbling with the LB to get my head around it. If it gets to the point where all these release bugs are resolved *and* I can add back in the missing content *and* all the utilities I need are able to work with it, then there's a chance I might be willing to jump ship just for the UI scaling fix.

The Legacy Collection version is listed as "The Sims 2 Legacy v1.18.0.98 [ReleaseSRT Configuration ]", which is different from the Ultimate Collection at "The Sims 2 EP9 v1.17.0.66 [ReleaseSRT Configuration ]". I went and made a new test neighborhood and transferred it to the older version, and it seems to load and run just fine for me, so hopefully it won't be an issue.

^ I'm guessing IKEA items could be an issue, but other than that it should (in theory) be fine to transfer from an "old" version to a "new" version (it's how it's been done ever since people started installing EP/SPs)

It's possibly going to be an issue if you want to do it the other way around, though (Legacy to UC/disc version). It might not be an issue since all the packs are there, but considering there are unresolved bugs in Legacy, plus who knows what else...?
Anyone feels like checking that?

Thank you very much!

Looks like it's registering as M&G then, which is good. Store edition set it at something like 14 EPs above! So at least people should be able to share lots and hoods made with this game.

A few positives from this craziness:

The Clean Installer is receiving a big boost in downloads. It's treading on the downloads page! RIP Mootilda, you are truly missed.
Simlogical's new owner announced a relaunched https://www.reddit.com/r/sims2/comm...dernizing_dont/

Thanks for the good times The Sims and The Sims Community. After 18 years, it is time for me to move on to something more purposeful.

Mootilda was a true gem. Glad to see her work is still helping so many people all these years later.

Didn't know Inge stepped down from Simlogical. I hope she's keeping well (and that people didn't panic too much!)

Inge seems to be doing well, he posts on reddit and here too sometimes.

I am so glad that Phervers and Mootilda made the clean installer- very much needed for Legacy edition players!

Also, don't forget that the Sims2Pack multi installer exists, too.
