Default Love or Loss Challenge‏
Objective:
This challenge is inspired by the game Fog of Love. You aim to guide your Sims to a successful relationship, all while dealing with the ups and downs of love and life.

-

Setup:
• Create two Sims as roommates.

• Traits: You can make them complementary, opposites, or just random.
• Personal Goals: Each Sim will have personal goals based on their aspiration or interests. These personal goals will guide their actions and life choices. Randomize these goals with a dice roll or let yourself assign them (details below).

• The couple is living in a starter home or an apartment. They begin with a 2,000 Simoleons.

Relationship Progression:
Relationship score/relationship points, are separate from the in-game relationship bar and are used to measure the quality of the couple’s relationship in this challenge. They represent the progress of the relationship and determine whether the couple succeeds in staying together or ends up breaking up.
How do relationship points work?
• The couple starts with 0 relationship points, and points are gained or lost based on in-game interactions and events.
• Points are earned or deducted through positive and negative actions, random events, and milestones in their story.
• Relationship points are range from -50 to +50.
• The relationship points are important for determining whether the couple achieves their relationship goals.

• You can track points manually on paper or by using a notepad.

Relationship Goals:
These are shared objectives for the couple. They define what the relationship is striving toward as a unit and are a critical part of the challenge. These goals test the couple’s compatibility, teamwork, and ability to navigate life together.
• At the start of the challenge, the couple is assigned a shared relationship goal. You can use a list of pre-defined goals and use a randomizer to select one.
• Both Sims must work together to fulfill the criteria for the relationship goal.

Examples of Relationship Goals:
• Happily Ever After - Relationship points are 50 or higher by the end of the challenge. The couple must be married.
Failure: If relationship points are below 50 or the couple is not married, they fail this goal.

• Building a Legacy - Have at least 1 child together. Both Sims must maintain a strong bond (30+ points) as parents.
Failure: If the couple doesn’t have a child or their relationship falls apart during parenting.

• Partners in Crime - Earn at least §30,000 together during the challenge. Both Sims must contribute to the household funds.
Failure: If they don’t meet the financial goal or one Sim becomes resentful (below 0 points).

• Lust and Passionate - Relationship points must fluctuate wildly during gameplay but stabilize at 25+ points by the end. The couple must Woohoo at least 3 times.
Failure: If the points remain steady or fall below 25.

Personal Goals:
These are individual objectives for each Sim. They reflect personal dreams, ambitions, or desires that may or may not align with the shared relationship goal. Personal goals create potential conflicts or harmony depending on how well they mesh with the relationship.
• Each Sim is assigned their own personal goal at the start of the challenge. You can pick from a pre-made list or use a randomizer to decide. Personal goals can either complement or contradict the relationship goal, creating tension if one Sim’s ambition clashes with the other’s expectations.
• A Sim must fulfill their personal goal by the end of the challenge for individual success.

Examples of Personal Goals:
• Ambitious - Get a promotion by the end of the challenge. Conflict: This might clash with a relationship goal that requires staying home or focusing on parenting.

• Free Spirit - Gain at least 3 new skills (Level 5+ each). Spend at least one night away from the partner (e.g., traveling) Conflict: This could strain the relationship if the partner feels neglected.

• Family Focused - Have a child and spend significant time nurturing them. Conflict: This could create friction if the other Sim’s personal goal focuses on wealth or independence.

-
Daily Interaction Guidelines:
• Decide which interactions the Sims will focus on during the day (social, career, skill-building, goal-driven or random event). Random events are like a surprise card that can either help or hinder the couple’s relationship and personal goals.
• If you want to add an element of unpredictability, every interaction’s success or failure can depend on a random roll.
Example: Roll a die (1-6).
1-3: Failure (-1 or -2 Relationship Points).
4-6: Success (+1 or +2 Relationship Points).

Social Interactions Points:

Friendly Interactions:
+1 Relationship Point per successful interaction.
Failed/Negative Outcome:
-1 Relationship Point for awkward or failed attempts.

Romantic Interactions:
+2 Relationship Points for successful actions.
Failed/Negative Outcome:
-2 Relationship Points for rejection or awkwardness.
(Intimate interactions can boost the relationship score if the Sims are happy, but may lower it if the relationship is rocky.)

Negative Interactions:
-2 to -5 Relationship Points, depending on the severity of the action.

Neutral Interactions:
These don’t directly impact the relationship but can lead to storytelling opportunities. For example, ask for advice, complain about work, expressing frustrations, discuss future together.

Random Event List:
Introduce surprises to the challenge by rolling for a random event.

Date Night:
Both Sims must spend the day together, focusing on romantic interactions only. +5 Relationship Points.

Surprise Gift:
One Sim gives the other a meaningful gift. +3 Relationship Points.

Shared Hobby:
Both Sims spend time together doing a shared activity (e.g., painting, cooking, gardening). +2 Relationship Points and progress toward Personal Goals if applicable.

Misunderstanding:
A miscommunication causes tension between the couple. -3 Relationship Points.

Jealousy:
One Sim gets jealous of the other’s interactions with another Sim. -5 Relationship Points.

Unexpected Bill:
The couple faces financial stress due to an unexpected expense. Create an argument (-2 Relationship Points).

Chore Fight:
One Sim refuses to clean or do chores. -5 relationship points.

Career Jealousy:
One Sim gets promoted, causing jealousy from the other. -5 relationship points.

Forgotten Anniversary:
One Sim forgets an important date, causing a fight. -10 relationship points.

Public Embarrassment:
One Sim embarrasses themselves in public, causing tension. -10 relationship points.

A Good Day Together:
The couple spends quality time, improving the relationship. +10 relationship points.

-
Daily Points Cap:
To avoid making the challenge too easy, there should be a cap on how many points can be earned or lost each day.
Each Sim can initiate up to 6 interactions with their partner daily.

Woohoo and Pregnancy Rules:
• The couple can WooHoo once they have a crush on each other. Woohoo should reward points to signify its importance, but it can also backfire under certain circumstances.
The outcome is always randomized:
• 1-3: WooHoo attempt fails due to nervousness or lack of chemistry • (-2 Relationship Points).
• 4-6: Successful Woohoo (+5 Relationship Points).
• If the Relationship score is too low (negative), they may not Woohoo or engage in romance interactions.

Unwanted Pregnancy:
• -10 Relationship Points if the pregnancy is unplanned and unwanted by either Sim.

Wanted Pregnancy:
• +10 Relationship Points if both Sims actively try for a baby and it’s successful.

-

Winning Conditions:
At the end of the 14 Sim days, the challenge ends.

Happy Ending
Both Sims completed their Personal Goal and completed their Relationship Goal together.
Relationship Points are 50 or higher at the end of the challenge.

Bittersweet Ending
One Sim completed their Personal Goals, but the other did not.
Relationship Points are between 20 and 49.

Heartbreaking Ending
The couple failed to complete their Relationship Goal.
Relationship Points are below 30.

Disappointing Ending
Relationship Points are between 1 and 19.
The couple tried, but their relationship lacks depth and compatibility.

Stable Partnership
Relationship Points are between 40 or higher.
The relationship has its ups and downs, but the couple is committed to making it work.

Sudden Breakup
Relationship Points are 0 or below by the end of the 14 days.
The couple breaks up for good.

I really like this idea! I'm aroace, autistic, very socially awkward, and don't understand romance (or relationships in general) at all, which makes it the most confusing game element of TS2 for me. Maybe trying this challenge and "gamifying" the relationship's progression would work for me!

Quick question: if I come up with my own list of personal and relationship goals to add to yours, would you be ok with me sharing them in this thread?

simblr
Home of Kulo Sena, the AUberhood, and a lot of worldbuilder rambling. You have been warned.

I appreciate your honesty. Relationships, in general are inherently complicated.

To sum up the challenge, there are 3 key elements to keep track of: the shared relationship points, relationship goals, and each Sim's individual goal. Think of it like managing a relationship and fulling personal dreams at the same time.

And of course, feel free to share your own lists in this thread!
