Unless Andrew overrules me, I've decided to add an espresso machine. My reasoning is that almost every restaurant I've ever visited will (at a price) serve coffee after the meal. Since it's not on the menu in TS2 restaurants, the least we can do is provide the facility for customers to serve themselves. We're well inside our budget.

Since I'm in last place anyway, I feel I've nothing to lose. With the addition of the espresso machine, I'll post the lot as it is. I've sent Sims to it several times as an unowned restaurant, and I know it works. Now I just want to post the essential pictures including the price, and then let the Hunts move in and see what they can do when they own the restaurant. Running it as an unowned restaurant, the game is spawning five NPCs, but the bartender doesn't have much to do. Amanda and Tyler won't manage five staff on duty, but there will be three of them. After a whirlwind one-day romance, Tyler's boyfriend Ian Borland has joined the family. Ian is a Fortune Sim, so he will understand the need to make a profit.

I can't give you a definite answer, but why would it, is what I would wonder.

The slide/playground thing mentioned earlier in the thread I can understand, but with food... aren't restaurants supposed to serve a variety of food? As long as you stay within budget I just don't see the problem.

Sorry you feel that way, but I'm glad you stayed around, and who knows you might move up in this round.

I'm agreeing with you about the espresso- I'm putting one of those, too! But don't feel like you've nothing to lose- you have every chance as a mistake can cause others to be marked down, too. As well as an over-use of orange!

I wasn't even thinking about that, but, now you mention it, a lot of the walls in our restaurant are painted with "Burnt Orange" paint. Well, it's on the walls now, and the paint is dry. Being a dark colour, it would be hard to paint over. So -- it's staying!

Going to reply to some questions:

@simsfreq
The rule says "a restaurant podium" - you can use a cc one.

An item selling food or drink is not an entertainment item.
(I would personally use the money for something else on the lot).

Cat will really, really, really, really not mark down your entry if you use orange

@AndrewGloria - you are still having fun, don't you?

I tested it as an unowned restaurant, and it was OK after I corrected a serious omission -- I hadn't fitted any doors to the toilets! This resulted in Amanda having an "accident" when she got home. Andrew is now at her house apologising for my stupidity, and assuring her that the toilets are fully working now. I'm probably best to keep out of Andrew's way for a few days.

Has he brought up the swim centre incident yet? XD

Not cheating if you're allowed CC. :P

I would have been disqualified from every round so far if I'd entered lol.

Of course! He said, "You've got form, haven't you?!"

[For those of you not in the know, very early in my game, when I was just beginning to learn to build, I sent Andrew to the newly opened Veronaville Swim Centre, because he was putting on weight (the result of three filling meals every day). I had started building a toilet block, but it had no roof, no wall coverings, no door, no steps to get up to floor level, and of course no toilet inside! Andrew did lose the weight he'd gained, through some vigorous swimming, but of course his bladder began to fill. (It's hard to avoid swallowing some water when swimming.) So he ended up having an accident on the pavement (sidewalk) while waiting for the taxi he'd ordered. Being Andrew (a Virgo) he mopped up the puddle before getting into the taxi, but he's never forgotten the "accident" nor who was to blame!]

I once submitted this nasty little apartment unit in a contest... <<<shudders>>>

We do not disqualify contestants You just lose points when you break the rules

It is necessary, though - sometimes the entries are so close to each other, a tiny thing can make a difference.
I also think @AndrewGloria should stop sulking about his lot - it's not bad, the others were just better.

Light brown shag carpet and the nightlife(?) retro '50s dining chairs instead of those gearhead ones would fix that... "nasty".

Did they tell you to put a wall behind the TV? (I actually like the carpet. The rest - hahaha)

Every entry definitely had it's hi-lights!
Don't lose hope!

Pertaining to my 'orange' apartment above - the whole point of it was to be "nasty" - from the TV wires to the tacky carpet and mis-matched furniture. I was going for lived-in realism (without CC,) and definite ugliness. LOL! *sigh* ...needless to say, I didn't win that one.

I can thankfully say that some of the pics of some of my less successful attempts have vanished from here I still like the carpet

After 4 demolished builds I think this is "THE ONE"

Front of Tavern

Back of Tavern

The bane of my life - Easy Swing Door no historical DR found

Look at that monstrosity of an anachronistic door

I should be able to meet the budget?

Thanks for the clarification, and the post with all the little features was a nice touch!

If I can't make either of these two current builds work, at least my hood will have a selection of new community lots!

Check out my thoughts on Psymchology (Sim Psychology) - latest post is on the main six aspirations.

I'm pretty much done with mine, finally managed to make the color palette work in a way I like. playtesting is done as well, I'm at the picture taking stage but everytime I notice something missing like the lights being off or the grid enabled when it shouldnt be so I have to retake them

I guess a DR would be undistinguishable from a CC door from the judges' point of view anyway, maybe a recolor would make it stick out less? I understand the frustration

Default Round 2 - Lunch Break
Something happened and I took it as a sign I was finished

Welcome to the Grilled Cheese Grill!
I shared some recolors for Grilled Cheese sims a few years ago and this round's emphasis on lunch seemed like a good fit.

Repeating myself from last round, but I had the best time! Thanks again for hosting Justpetro and thanks again to the judges for their time and thoughtful reviews. This thread is really fun and I love getting to know everyone better. Best wishes and good luck to my fellow builders, I'm really looking forward to seeing what y'all come up with

That build reminds me of a (vanilla) building I see in Cities Skylines 2. Which isn't a bad thing at all since I like CS2.

Totally agree. I am still looking for a recolour that I like.
