The Future Belongs To The Builders

At the front of the restaurant there are two hitching posts for travellers' horses - there's plenty of space in case a quarrelsome horse needs to be separated, and the Hunts make sure the water in the barrels is fresh. (Locals usually arrive on foot.) The door to the side is for deliveries of fresh vegetables from the local farms, fish from the bay, and other ingredients used to prepare the restaurant's meals.

The windows facing the bay are large for a nice view, and there's plenty of seating. A member of the Hunt family will greet customers and show them to their seats.

Amanda presides over a selection of drinks at the bar.

There's a six-set table for large outings and families, two smaller tables inside, two more outside under the awning, and four barstools.

Here's the customer washroom - three toilets behind the curtained doorways, basins and clean hand towels provided.

The most crucial part of any restaurant is the kitchen. Tyler is the one with more cooking skill, so the stove is his domain. He has space for slicing and dicing and a well-stocked cupboard close to hand.

There's a table in the middle of the kitchen for preparation work - the orchards have brought a huge crop of pears this year, so Tyler is experimenting with new recipes. An archway gives ready access to the storeroom with sacks of rice and flour and barrels of beans, potatoes and onions. Next to it a door leads to the small staff toilet.

There's a barrel for food scraps and a sink and a large tub of water for washing dishes. Breads come from Pederson's Bakery down the road, next to the florist, so you know they're fresh.

The small office has a scroll-in-a-box and books for keeping accounts and noting orders. There's also a coat rack for staff.

Amanda and Tyler arrived on the first day and opened up the restaurant. They hoped to have plenty of customers and make a good day of it.

Diana Stone, leader of Holtwood's army, came to have a look at the menu. With a noblewoman visiting, the Hunts will have to do their best to impress! There's a tea station in the corner over there for people who don't want alcohol on their lunch break.

Tyler got busy cooking the orders. This year the garlic has been growing extraordinarily well! Each bulb is at least the size of an orange.

Amanda carried the first meals out to the customers.

Sisters Renata and Ripley Go (daughters of Tosha Go) came in and sat together. Ripley asked for a small slice of bread - perhaps it will take time for the Hunts to persuade her that it's worth trying their more adventurous menu items.

Elderly Gabriella Newson whistled a cheerful tune while she waited for her soup to arrive. Maybe she'd like to blow on it until it's cool enough to eat!

Amanda cleared away the plates into the dish barrel - an efficient way to wash them all at once.

Not everything went perfectly the first day. Titus Pederson, Holtwood's baker, got his lunch all over his lap.
(Note: I had to change the island counter under the host podium when sims complained about not being able to use it, so it doesn't match the one shown in other screenshots - but I wanted to include this picture!)

But evidently Titus didn't tell everyone he'd received atrocious service, because his teenage son Ibsen came in to eat the very next day. (Titus and Ibsen are the son and grandson of Benjamin Long, and I'm happy to see the Long nose being passed down!)

Rhett Go (youngest of Tosha's seven children) enjoyed the fresh air on the patio and the view of the bay and the lighthouse. It was a romantic place to have lunch with his boyfriend Bruce.

For entertainment over a meal, musically talented sims from around town take a turn at the contrabass now and then. There's a stack of books of music for those who are brave enough to try out a new tune in public! Frankie, son of Orlando Centowski and Gabriella Newson, is a very musical person and loves a chance to take requests or improvise.
