Tonight I finished some details, playtested the lot and took screenshots. I'm quite happy with how it turned out, I think I'll be ready to post tomorrow!
Not like I have a choice anyway if I want to be on time for this round, since I'm leaving on friday morning and I'll be away for the whole weekend

It's so hard to get the instruments to face the right way! I thought a while back of making a cheat sheet - set up all the instruments with the arrow facing forwards, then send sims to play them all and take a screenshot for reference, so I can see which way I should place them. But I haven't done it yet.

Yesterday I successfully made a default file of the object I wanted to change... but it defaulted the wrong subset! Today I went back and followed all the instructions again (thanks to Morague for a helpful tutorial on replacing textures!) and this time it worked. (I think Maxis named the textures the wrong way round or something.) In between those efforts, I managed to mess up my SimPE file paths, completely breaking everything, and after a brief panic I fixed them again (thanks to HobbesED for helping with that). Now I feel like I'm close to finished with building my entry, but the amount of work left to do seems to stretch out the closer I get to the end... and I can't keep myself focused. Can somebody please come to my house, grab me firmly by both ears, and tell me "You don't need to find any more objects to download. You don't need to make a recolour of that vase, the ones you have will work just fine. Step AWAY from Plumb Bob Keep and get that contest entry into shape!"

But... I saw some nice FreeTime quilt recolours (my entry doesn't need any quilts in it) and I'm not happy with the hood deco you'll see near my lot, and, and...

@Modder -- May I suggest that you edit your Round 3 entry post to insert line breaks between the pictures, as was suggested after Round 1. It makes it much easier to read and to judge for very little extra effort.

I'm ready to start posting my own Round 3 entry. Diana and her partner Edward have visited the lot with Andrew, and now she has taken the plunge and bought it -- for §78,997!

Default Round 3: Silky Way Planetarium

Nearing the end of her career as a scientist, Diana Silke decided to leave research and dedicate her time to sharing her passion and knowledge of the universe. When her children were younger, she especially loved taking them to the museums, encouraging their curiosity about various topics.
That's why she took the opportunity to take the head of the local Planetarium without hesitation. It used to be an observatory, turned into a museum after researchers were forced to relocate in the middle of nowhere due to increasing light pollution. Most of the building's historical architecture has been preserved to this day, even though part of the interior was renovated and modernized to welcome visitors.

This lot was inspired by and pretty much built around the amazing animated TSM orrery converted by NixNivis
I've had an eye on it for a long time but finally got to use it!

Hi everyone. I think I will be stepping aside from the competition as I am still recovering from my latest lupus and fibromyalgia flare up. Sorry for being so silent until now. I had really enjoyed myself and will definitely try to participate again if another competition pops up.

Good luck to everyone! Lots of love <3

@Mr. Oshima I think it's a very creative building. I love those round roofs. ^^ I'd like to try something similar in another building.

IMPORTANT:

I am asking all of you again to tell me if I make a mistake somewhere! I sometimes do and am more than willing to own up to them and fix them. I corrected something in the results today after double-checking the scores and comments from the judges, and scores were not affected, but it was nonetheless a mistake, and I would rather fix those as soon as possible.

I try to check the requirements as soon as the entries are in and will keep on doing that. I double check them too before posting the results, but I still put a comment in the wrong place. The sooner you tell me, the sooner I can fix that.

Thank you, everyone

Default Round 3 - Diana's Grove Climbing Gym and Spa
When Diana Silke's husband Richard died unexpectedly (So unfortunate! Such a fit and active man too!) she was left alone in their little house for two in the burgeoning resort town of Viper Springs. Her Boys were all grown and living their own lives in different parts of SimNation. She could, of course, move to be closer to one of them, but why pick favourites and risk the others being jealous? So, she remains in Viper Springs.

Diana has always fancied starting her own business, but the family had been obliged to relocate frequently due to the demands of Richard's job (civil engineer), often to exotic locations around the globe. Now the travelling is over, and she has Richard's insurance money as well as their savings to invest in her dreams.

But what business to build? Diana's fondest memories are of the years they spent in Central Simerica when the Boys were small. The family would head out at weekends for adventures in the rainforest and on the offshore islands, scrambling over rocks, swimming in pools and camping overnight in forest glades or on beaches. The Boys are as active as their father. What kind of attraction would they enjoy, if they came to visit?

So, Diana decided to build a gym for the new resort, one that specialises in rock climbing and also features rainforest plants, to celebrate her happy memories of Central Simerica. She designed it herself, drawing on her long-ago architectural training. Imagine her delight when the groundworks uncovered an underground hot spring, one of many in the Viper Springs area. This was quickly incorporated into the plans!

So was born Diana's Grove, Climbing Gym and Spa. The cherry on the top of the cake is that youngest son Michael has offered to move back to Viper Springs after Uni to help her run it! And she didn't even have to drop a hint!

Front of lot.

(For his part, Michael could spot the oncoming “hint” from the beginning of the project. However, he had no special plans for life after Uni, so decided to roll with it.)

Note to judges; I play a fair number of owned businesses and in my experience it is best to keep the bathrooms as small as possible so Sims can't congregate in there and block them up. I played this lot with Diana and Michael for 3 Sim days and never had more than one sim at a time try to use the bathroom. I assure you that this has never caused me a problem, no matter how high the business ranks up.

More importantly though, I hope you start feeling better real soon.

Default Entry Round 3: Going Somewhere? - ClefStave!

Monopolis resident Diana Silke felt there was a real need for a quality music venue in the Veronaville area. So, after extensive discussions between Diana and Jones & Moltke's teenage Managing Director Andrew Jones-Moltke, the firm has built this new music theatre for her in Regent Street in Monopolis. The view from the main street isn't very exciting, with a high grey stone wall, and very little sunlight. So Diana actually encourages fly-posting, and the posters pasted to that wall really do brighten things up a bit. The two tiny "privacy " windows high up on that wall are really for ventilation. With a metal grille on them, they admit hardly any daylight. Anyone who has ever lived in a city will know walls like this one. And at least in Monopolis we know the other side of the street will never be built on.

The theatre is called "ClefStave", emphasising that it is primarily a music venue. It could however quite easily be adapted for occasional drama productions. It has a bar, because quite honestly, I don't think I've ever seen a theatre without a bar. Diana however decided that it would be a nice idea to have the bar in a separate building. It means that visitors will get a little bit of fresh air when walking between the bar and the main theatre. A small private staff room is accessible through the bar.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The Future?
Diana's original idea was to have musicians on stage and charge visitors to watch them. But that would mean paying the musicians, and money is still tight. At the moment she's just letting visitors come up on stage and play the instruments themselves. She's charging §16 an hour, which they say is ridiculously cheap, but it's bringing in a steady, if small, income, with no wages to pay, and, to be honest, there's not all that much to do. In comparison to the way Amanda and the boys are slaving away over at Ample Sufficiency, this feels like "money for jam". So she is tempted, for the moment at least to keep on running the place that way. If she or Edward take a turn at playing one of the instruets, which they both enjoy, they may even earn a little bit more in tips. All their kids have now left home, so they would have to be paid wages to work at ClefStave, but maybe one or more of them -- perhaps the youngest, Matt, who is still a teen, might be persuaded to come home, and help with mum's new business. After all, if mum and dad both find it fun, he might enjoy the "work" here too! I think we'll also install a shower in the staff room, as mentioned above.

Default Entry Round 3 - Going Somewhere
Diana Silke has always considered herself to be a cultured sim. As a new empty-nester she decided to relocate to a quiet community, but to her dismay she discovered that there were no cultural entertainment venues. This will never do! she said to herself, and decided to found the Four Corners Opera House. Now the local rubes can experience Fine Culture(tm) with a mandatory donation. All proceeds go to support performing arts groups in the area.

I'm getting there, I promise! I'm at the stage of juggling just a few last things to get under budget, and noticing rooms I didn't put lights in, and breathing a sigh of relief at rediscovering the fact that ceilings are free! Diana Silke will open her new venture for screenshots as soon as it's finalised.

I love everyone's entries for this round! The standard is going up and up, and there's some amazing creative ideas - the observatory, the opera house! I received compliments on my consistent architectural style in the previous rounds, but I've branched out from the half-timbered awning design and I'm doing something completely different this time - I hope it works out.

Default Round 3 Entry - Museum of Holtwood
The latest attraction to open in Holtwood is a gallery and museum filled with paintings, sculptures and curios from around the region. The judges are welcomed to visit and make their appraisals! You've heard that your guide for this tour will be Diana Silke, who used to work as a clerk in the Governor's administration and has finally succeeded in convincing Holtwood's wealthy families to open a museum to share their collected works of art with the public.

You are greeted outside the Museum of Holtwood by a neatly dressed middle-aged woman who introduces herself as Diana Silke.

"Every time I come out here I find something that needs doing - dead-heading flowers or sweeping leaves in the courtyard. I want to make sure it looks nice for visitors - giving a good impression of Holtwood is what the museum is all about, after all. I hear you've come to assess the town's businesses? There's no better way to get to know Holtwood than to explore the museum. Come on in!"

Edit: Some new pictures and I remembered to add a smoke alarm at the last moment!
(Edit more: I jiggled the post around and now have the right pictures with the right captions at last!)
