Perhaps Jeremy should get some help to take his paper online. (Also, as an aside, someone was certainly feeling festive in that screenshot....)

Anyway, I don't really have any particular system for deciding a Sim's job. Typically, I'll use their LTW if it's career-based, but if it's not, I'll look at the skills the job calls for, the Sim's personality, and the Sim's LTW. (I've never paid much attention to a Sim's interests outside of interacting with other Sims, but that's a me problem.) If I'm playing a challenge that restricts which Sims can take which jobs, I'll account for that as well.

Thanks.
Sounds like it, I recognize the name Wintermuteai. Pretty sure I do have some of their items. The magazine printer might be Simslice as well.

The jobs part of the Crumpulator is kind of what I'm trying to come up with, but like you, I have a bunch of custom careers (NPC and a few others), so I would need to fit it to my game.

By the vibes obviously

If the stars are aligned they may get the career track that matches their LTW, if not, tough thats how things work for the rest of us anyway!

hii... do you maybe have a link for the meteorology career??

Honestly, for the most part I go by vibes or just what career I can imagine best for any particular Sim... :D

Most of my sims are artistic so I aim for printer/graphic jobs. Lot of the rest are business/money.
Some are very specific like law enforcement or medicine.
I like to keep some in oddball jobs just to see what happens.
The only ones I avoid are nighttime jobs. What's the fun in that? No socializing.

Working during the night, have a bit of sleep and then - off to the nearest bar, where all the sims who work during the night hang around

If someone works nights they can't be invited to a Party without having to skip work.

If you use the prison mods from Simlogical, and you play the game like I play it (multiregional megahood, with county jails, state prisons, federal prisons, and juvenile facilities), you'll need lot of Sims to be in the penal career path, lol. Same with education if you play the school mods the way I do.

I look the person's fashion and think what would fit him. Sometimes I look at the place of residence. Someone living in University (with mods) is more likely to work as a professor. I don't let them get a promotion past the intended job because often this job would be radically different from the previous one.

Whichever career I find to fit that Sim - portrait painters and music lovers are obvious, those set to lead should be teaching, be politicians or diplomats, or work in the entertainment industry, and the rest are really whatever, with maybe those grouped into law and military the outstanding ones. I revamped all Maxis careers, just so their work hours per week vary. The longer, the better, as I run a lot of Sims per rotation.

Teens, on the other hand, should always have jobs if they belong to wealthy families (like, 90% of my Pleasantview), or they'd be clowned on.

I do take requests, but only for coding.

I would have thought that poor teens would be more likely to work and not live off their parents. XD

To be honest, I don't worry about it much.

I like to play bigger hoods and have lots of families. The more, the merrier, or something like that.

Some of my sims will go into vanilla careers if they roll the LTW for that and I honestly don't care if the career or the hours or anything about the career is realistic or not. (And if there are too may celebrity chefs, I just build another restaurant). If they hate the job, though, and want to quit every day, I will grant that wish and see if my sims are happier doing something completely different.

Others will be business owners, writers, musicians and impromptu performers; or just, without having a business, make some money by selling flower arrangements/pottery/toys to the air (it is just an online transaction, isn't it?). I normally decide what a sim will do once they have graduated from Uni (and I send them all and I don't care whether it is realistic or not either) - depending on who they are and what they like. And if it does not work out, it is easy to change. Much easier than in RL, anyway!

Curious...
Does anyone have a Sim that can live off One Business?
What do they Sell?

My toyshop is highly profitable now that the owners have branched out from toybench crafted toys to every fun-looking toy or game there is, plus creativity objects for grown-ups (I sold a piano and a bass in one session last round!) and nursery furniture. Nearly every household has a dolls'-house purchased at Newson Toys, but that doesn't stop sims from buying more of them, whether they have children or not!

Hammer Furniture has just reopened in new premises and made a profit of $5 112 on opening day. They sell a lot of tables, chairs, sofas, dressers, end tables etc, plus mirrors, lamps, cushions and rugs. Both these shops need about three family members to run them - teens can help in the shop after school - and I find it better that way than hiring employees.

The bakery, on the other hand, makes a pittance and isn't really worth the time to open it. Both owners have full-time jobs, one on the night shift and one during the day, so they try to open the bakery twice a day. They sell PenelopeT's fridge stockable foods as well as cakes and pies they've baked; the thing that's made the biggest difference to their income is when they started to sell decorative plates and trays, big ticket items that turn a better profit than food.

Lorraine's bakery in my hood was very successful, though. She did have 3 relatives helping out, but she made a LOT of money.

She sold only chocolate and cheesecakes. No cake served to customers, they walked in, bought their cakes and left. I never saw the point of turning a bakery into a cafeteria - there are other things to use in a coffee shop.

It probably helped that all 3 of them had 10 cooking points. The bakery reached Level 5 in 4 days.

Years ago, I decided for some reason to build a sim a small shop selling lights - that was a bright idea All townies seem to need lights in their lives all the time!

My shopping hood on here, Traderville, has lots that I have based on businesses that have been quite successful in my own game over many years.

How did you get three Sims to 10 cooking skill points?

Andrew has been trying to maximise his cooking skill points ever since I started to play in November 2012, and he's still only got 9 points. And it's taken him over 13 real years to get that far! Mind you, when I say he's been trying to maximise his cooking skill, I mean not to the extent of staying in at night reading cookery books when he could be out clubbing! I mean a boy's got to have a social life.

Actually I think most of my Sims are quite good at achieving a healthy work/life (or school/life) balance. I think only a few are really motivated to try to reach the very top of their careers.

He could probably make 10 with just one round of studying a recipe book.

That's how he got it from 8 to 9!

According to SimPE his current level is 9.13, so he really is within striking distance of the magic 10. If I point that out to him, I think I could probably just about persuade him to go for it. Once he's got his 10 cooking skill points, I think he'll try to get into private school again, in the hope that, when he serves up a perfectly cooked lobster that he's cooked himself, the headmaster will have to accept him.

Now it has to be said that Andrew doesn't really want to go to private school at all. He still thinks that private schools are pretentious useless dens of snobbery like he said all those years ago when Toby Bertino said the Jones family weren't good enough for his school. But Andrew doesn't like to fail in anything he tries, and being told that he and his mum weren't good enough to get into Toby Bertino's snobby school has grated with him for years. What he really wants is to make Toby Bertino, odious pretentious pratt that he is, eat his words. As soon as he's accepted, he'll leave school, and tell the headmaster exactly what he thinks of him and his school!

I don't really find it difficult.

Lorraine was a knowledge sim, she studied hard and as a teen, made her own lunch every day at home. At Uni she chose Science, and by the time she graduated, she already had 10 cooking skill points.

Her 2 kids watched a bit of The Yummy Channel in the morning before school and soon started making muffins. And also had to make their own lunches and sometimes, they made dinner too (I made sure they took turns if both were at home at the same time). They were still teens when they helped in the bakery, and from making some chocolate cakes and cheesecakes for the bakery, they both maximized their skills before going off to Uni. Both of them also earned a cash register badge and a sales badge while working in the bakery, and Lorimer earned a restocking badge too.

Lorraine's hubby, Liam, with 8 cooking skills, stepped in when the kids went off to Uni to help, and soon got up to 10 too.

Having Free Time may help, some Sims seem to enjoy baking in my game and keep rolling wants to bake cakes. And I let them bake

Edit: The headmaster in my game likes spaghetti. When the Minister of Education served him Lobster, he turned down her kids
