Yesterday I played the Legacy version again. Maybe for 7 hours, and with a little CC. The game crashed while I was saving the lot.
Deinstalled the whole thing.
No I'm installing the version I had on my old computer. It never had crashes.

My disc version on Windows 10 crashes sometimes for no ostensible reason.

What's funny is Edith NEVER crashes except for reasons a production version would be unlikely to crash over (and even then I can usually avert the crash).

I said this elsewhere but "You might be prompted to “Enable the help system” every time you return to a house. This is the game trying to have you complete the tutorial. This will continue to happen until you complete the tutorial."

No. No, EA, it is not. You're not gonna gaslight me into questioning literally the entire history of my playing this game by telling me the help system popup that has popped up literally every lot start on my tutorial-finished game, a separate object from tutorial.iff called helpsystem.iff, is only popped up because I HAVEN'T finished the tutorial (being mid tutorial being, ironically, the only time the help system CAN'T be activated).

The help system is for helping all the time, darn it! I love being told things I already know and so I have it on always! You can't fool me!

I can't seem to pick up flies with the move objects cheat, nooo! I HATE the noise of the flies... being able to delete them was so helpful. Anyone got on any tips on how to deal with flies? I guess I could hire a maid...?

You could get Simlogical's zapper for scavengers: https://simlogical.com/sl/downloadpages/zappers.htm

(I think there are other fly auto-deleters but I'm blanking on where)

Thank you, this is awesome!!

A new issue I’m having with the game is that burglars are disappearing. Sometimes just the music plays but then nothing happens and other times the music plays plus I get the popup showing me that the burglar is on the lot… but then they just vanish.

I’m not really bothered by this, however - lol. It could be caused by a mod; I’ve added quite a lot of mods and cc to my game. Just thought I’d mention it; maybe others are having the same issue? Anyway, I’m enjoying the game a lot so far! It only crashed one time. Apart from that it’s been running smoothly

I haven't spent much time playing yet, but so far so good after the patches. I was wondering how to play without being signed in on the EA app though??

You can go offline on the EA app, but you do have to be signed into the app itself.

I've made some mods for The Sims 1 -- yes, The Sims ONE :-) -- which you can find at http://corylea.com/Sims1ModsByCorylea.html

From what I know the only way to play an EA app game without the EA app is to get a crack for it :/
That's why I always prefer to buy games on GOG, because they don't require any launchers and you can even download all installers and keep them on your disk, so you actually OWN your games. Unfortunately they don't have any sims games yet But TS1 has quite a lot of votes on their Dreamlist so keeping my fingers crossed.

ETA: If you have a gog account and want to vote to bring TS1 to gog, here are links for Complete Collection and Legacy Collection

When you open the EA app, look at the upper left corner. There will be a really obvious set of three horizontal white lines, surrounded by a little box. Above it is a less-obvious set of lighter horizontal lines, not surrounded by a box.

Click on the less-obvious, lighter set of three horizontal lines, and that will produce a pop-up. Go offline is one of the choices there.

Re-release is okay. But I won't buy it. Fan-shared version works fine. Sorry, EA. GggggMmmmm

Here you can see more of my creations and conversions for sims 3. ;) I`ll glad to see your comments in.

Sorry if this was already mentioned before, but I think I found something interesting that I haven't seen anyone talking about this.

In The Sims Legacy Collection, skins aren't restricted to only 256 colors, the game accepts a 24-bits bitmap file and handles it without any issues!

The Sims Complete Collection

The Sims Legacy Collection

However as far as I know sprites (SPR# and SPR2) are still restricted to a palette of 256 colors, trying to create a PALT chunk with more than 256 colors causes odd behavior from "colors missing from the sprite" to "game crashes".

However² I didn't test it enough before posting this... it seems that a small part of the mesh is transparent when using a >256 color image. It could be a case of "if there are more than 256 colors then just make the rest of the colors transparent" but I think that, if this was the case, way more parts of the mesh would be transparent.

The affected mesh part is magenta in the texture... hmm, suspicious (not exactly 255, 0, 255, but pretty close)

In fact, changing the texture to a 255, 0, 255 does make the mesh transparent

It seems that anything above >200, 0 >200 (haven't found the right threshold yet) causes parts of the mesh to be transparent

A 255, 0, 0 texture does not have the same issue

Yet another update: When I tested the magenta texture as a 256 colors, the skin was still transaprent... So it seems that thismagenta issue also affects 256 color images?! Uhhh, I think that's actually a bug because this behavior is not present in Complete Collection!

Yet another update²: After painstakingly changing the color in Photoshop, exporting the bmp, opening the game, over and over... I found out that it seems to affect any colors >=250, 0, >=250... It is a smaller range than what I initially thought, but it is still weird... but at the same time it is cool that you can use full color bmps as skins tho

Magenta is the "transparency" color for the game's interface images, I believe (you can see this if you look at some of the icons in UIGraphics.far). Maybe the transparency is from that? (Though you'd think more people would have noticed issues if that were the case, unless pure magenta is just that uncommon.)

Another change related to texture rendering: Textures are linearly interpolated in Legacy Collection while in Complete Collection they use nearest neighbor.

Complete Collection:

Legacy Collection:

However this is just a small nitpick that won't affect 99,9999% of the skins out there, but I thought it is nice to document these Complete Collection -> Legacy Collection changes.

Besides, working around this issue is somewhat easy: Scale the texture size using nearest neighbor and slap a RLE compression on the bmp/tga file for good measure.

The reason why it is a Steve head is because I was testing mixiate's TS1 Blender IO plugin, so as a complete noob to Blender I thought that the easiest thing I could do is a Steve head skin.

After the new update, there is now a in-game resolution/monitor/windowed option selector, you need to restart the game to apply the new resolution though.

They still haven't added a GUI scale option tho.

Also, it is cool that they actually drew new art assets for these settings popups, and the art assets do seem to follow the The Sims 1 art style.

Another (albeit very small) thing about the rerelease: Because the rerelease removed the HTML Export options, you can't import The Sims' Sims into SimCity 4. SimCity 4 reads Sims from the ".pub" files present in the "UserData/Export"folder, and the ".pub" files aren't created in The Sims Legacy Collection
