I have another one~ this idea has a similar format to the previous idea

Build a Hood Starter Pack

It is up to the host or judges where the story starts. It can be an abandoned town with an established architecture style, or an uninhabited area by a newly opened highway. The area is small and manageable, and Sim City wants it to thrive.

CAS contestants must create sims that would fit the job. Please present us with their backstory and resume.
These sims can be solo, have a pet, or have a family of their own. I think additional sims should not provide additional points, but they can add flavor to the main sim's lore, and more things to consider for the Build Mode participants.

Round 1: Mayor / Village Leader
  • this sim must be an adult or elder sim, and they must look like they got the position one way or another.
Suggestion: host/judges can present their own Mayor, and replace one of the vacant spots for a Mechanic or Handyman. The guy/gal you always call for everything and perhaps someone who knows everything.
Round 2: Sheriff / Head Peacekeeper
  • this sim can be a police officer, a fire fighter, a couple's counselor, your neighborhood karen, or the local town sweetheart who's really good at diplomacy.
maybe it's the neighborhood kid who always wins at debate. as long as the lore works, it should be ok
Round 3: Local Doctor / Resident Healer
  • it is up to you if you want this sim to be a modern doctor, a nurse, a faith healer, a traditional medicine practitioner, or a witch sim that magics the sickness away...?
Round 4: Everyone's Favorite Trouble-maker
  • create the town drunk, the resident crazy lady, or the newspaper thief. this sim must be a silly trickster, a troubled, tough-acting softie, or a misunderstood sim with a heart of gold.

Build mode contestants must make a lot for the winning CAS sims above.
Their contest will start *after* the first CAS round concludes. So it will be staggered. For example CAS Round 2, Build Round 1. CAS Round 3, Build Round 2 and so on.
Their lots will be judged based on how it fits the corresponding round's sim. Host/judges must regulate the size of the lots, CC-use, and decide if rounds must be purely community lot or allow residential lot if the lore works, and it has ample space for the sim to perform their duties at home.

Round 1: Town Hall / Mayor's House
  • If the participant chooses to build a residential, there must be a meeting area and an office.
Round 2: Policebox / Fire Station / Peacemaker's Residence
Round 3: Clinic / Physical Therapy Center / Healing Hut
Round 4: Pub / That Sim's Owned Business / Book Club

And then at the very end I'm going to download all of them and put them in my game

Great ideas, @kanzen! I have a less fancy one, but it may work:

First shopping street could also be nice:

The shoppers:

The fit, healthy sim who eats fresh food
The fancy sim who is into fashion
The cultural sim who is into films and literature
The happy sim who just wants to party or hang out with friends

The shops

The Grocery
The clothing shop/boutique
The coffee cafe with books and art
The first bar/pub in the hood

the best part is @Justpetro
all of these can be combined even with the mystery theme so we can get a nice variety of sims and lots xD

Imagine the judges are the producers, writers, and directors for a detective movie and they are on a search for their lead actors?
There would be a mystery; a crime, a stolen object, a missing person etc., and Participants would need to make a Sim who would fit certain archetypes (or Sims! If 2 can function in the narrative well enough, I say why not. Though this shouldn't give bonus points. I think a max of 2 sims should be enough as to not be too complicated.)
Round 1: The Detective
Round 2: The Damsel in Distress / The Femme Fatale
Round 3: The Red Herring / The Scapegoat
Round 4: The Culprit

Builders could make the sets of the movie/story...
Round 1: The Opening Act (Where all Sims would've met each other at some point. A Community lot works best)
Round 2: The Detective's Sanctuary (It could be an office, the sim's home, a park that for some reason boosts their intellect etc.)
Round 3: The Scene of the Crime (Can be a community lot or residential; maybe it happened during a party? This can be the home of either the Round 2 or Round 3 sim)
Round 4: The Villain's Lair (It can be the Culprit's home, an owned community lot or business lot, or a place near the scene of the crime, etc.)

Thoughts?

Have you ever heard of or played the board game called Cluedo

Its basically a murder mystery. You could make the characters as Sims and build a replica of the house in TS2

Yes PLEASE I'd like another contest, I've been bitten by the bug now

There was a Monopoly board contest, so why not a Cluedo board theme too! I enjoy murder mystery tropes so I quite like the whodunnit idea. Lots of rooms in the Cluedo mansion to decorate, and we wouldn't all have to set our murder in the 1930s (I think some leeway with that floorplan might be in order too). What if contestants each entered a shady-looking sim suspect with plenty of motives, then we find out from the judges which one really is the murderer?

A contest with separate scoring for creating sims, building houses, and making terrains or decorating hoods - this seems fun and gives everyone a chance to show what they're good at, then either have a go at or skip the rounds they're not so skilled in. I'd really like to be assigned someone else's sim and build a house for them, or make a sim to run someone else's business lot, or be challenged to create a romantic partner, business partner, roommate or pet for a sim from an earlier round. Restrictions make my creativity flow and I'd love to be pushed out of my comfort zone by creating something to suit a starting point I'd never have chosen for myself! However I'd be concerned about a mismatch between numbers of contestants in different rounds or people dropping out. If 12 people go to a lot of effort to make interesting sims, then only 10 builders build houses for them and some sims miss out... or some of the sims are claimed by builders who can't complete a house in time... I'd feel bad for the ones that don't get picked up in the next round! maybe that's only a problem in my mind though?

I also like contests with set floor plans to build on, or houses that need to be fixed up. Hmmm, that has me thinking: house that's only a foundation and needs to be finished; sim who needs a house built or decorated for them; town that needs a new library/park/cafe; sim who needs a partner, friend or pet; community without enough fun hobbies needs someone to come in and teach them to dance, play basketball or arrange flowers... I have a lot of half-formed thoughts but I'm liking all the ideas people have brought in so far!

Thing is all the characters in Cluedo are suspects, you can make them as shady looking as you like.

We should make a list of all the options and have a vote - but we may need more ideas first?

Let's start by narrowing things down. (Click any combination of agree, disagree, helpful- but only click EITHER funny OR love.)

Click AGREE if you want the contest to involve sim making.

Click DISAGREE if you want the contest to involve making buildings.

Click HELPFUL if you want the contest to involve making neighbourhoods (just placing lots and decorations and moving families in, using SimCity4 would be optional!)

Click FUNNY if you want the contest to contain just one aspect of the game, for example just building, or just sim making.

Click LOVE if you want the contest to contain a bit of several aspects of the game, for example making a sim and building a house for them.

If I missed an option then please let me know!

What do I click if I'm fine with anything and everything, except for tongue sandwiches and generally any food that has been on the inside of a cow's mouth?

I don't like to put a dampener on things but, to be honest, I feel I'm still recovering from the last contest. I put a lot of time and effort into it, and I suppose it was a bit discouraging to finish last in every single round. I can't blame the judges for that -- the other entries were just better than mine. I wasn't the only one who felt exhausted and discouraged by the end: my Sim Andrew fell asleep while visiting the clients in the last round. It was all too much for both of us! In the circumstances I really cannot work up much enthusiasm for another building contest this year. 'Hood building really doesn't interest me. If I built a new neighbourhood, I would feel I ought to make a commitment to play it, at least occasionally, for as long as I feel able to play. This is for the sake of the Sims who would live there. I think I really believe that a Sim is for life -- not just for Christmas -- or just for the contest. I already have eight neighbourhoods that I play sometimes. I really don't need a ninth. I recently made a decision to concentrate on Veronaville, where most of my favourite Sims live, rather than add any new neighbourhoods.

On the other hand, I really might be interested in a Sim-making contest, as I do enjoy creating Sims. I'd probably do no better than in the building contest as I don't usually use much CC in making a Sim. I do use a default custom skin for female Sims, as my Sims sometimes take their clothes off (quite often really!) and a female Sim without nipples just looks weird to me. I use custom face templates (which a really just a toned down version of the maxis templates, and I use custom hair, mainly to help me tell one Sim for another. But I (apart those female defaults) I don't use custom skins, and I don't use CC eyes or makeup. The reason for not using CC eyes, is that I feel very uncomfortable looking anyone, even a Sim, straight in the eye. According to our western culture that makes me shifty and untrustworthy, but to me looking into someone's feels like staring at them, almost trying to look into their soul, and I instinctively I avert my own eyes. As a result of never looking, I don't even know the eye colour of most of my Sims. On the other hand I use lots of CC clothing, because Maxis never made the sort of clothes that my Sims and I like -- especially not for male Sims! All told I'd probably finish just as badly in a Sim making contest as in the building one, but I'm sure I'd enjoy it more.

I really do enjoy making Sims. I added 15 to Veronaville for Justpetro's building contest, and I've added another 15 since.

Having said all that, if simsample starts a contest, and it looks like it's going to fail due to lack of contestants, then I'll probably put in an entry, because I wouldn't want simsample's contest to fail. But really I'd rather just be a play-along. Then I could concentrate on the things I like, and maybe skip over the things that get me down. Maybe in three or four years time, I'll feel ready for another building contest.

There's also the minor matter of there being some pressing Real Life things that I really should attend to. Too often I give Sims affairs priority over Real Life things. Maybe I should just say, "I have some matters I have to attend to."

All Sims are beautiful -- even the ugly ones.

@AndrewGloria, I don't think the contest is going to place that soon, I believe @simsample said as much earlier.

My contest was my first one as a host and I think I have learned a lot from hosting it. After that, I think if I host another one, it will be a lot easier to follow, less all over the place and with clearer guidelines. I think the mistake I made was in giving too many options in some of the rounds, and tried to take too many things (e.g. size of the big skating rink, etc). into account.

I have also thought that there could be 2 contests - the first one for making the sims (whether they are single, families, whatever) and the second one to build the lots.

As for the hood, I suggest that those of us who want to make maps afterwards, players vote for the map of their choice, then we can make a hood with all the lots in it and if you want to, you can download it as a main hood or perhaps a subhood. It will just feel as if we have actually done something with all the lots the contestants took the time to build.

I still wish those of you who built for the previous contest will upload your lots!

current circumstances considered I think I should've uploaded all my contest entries and the lots I was particularly proud of here xD
not that I should make MTS a backup cloud but... I really should've done that!

Anyone wants to build something for Uni and make some dormies/students?

I am not thinking huge dorms or libraries, but rather perhaps small houses to rent, a smaller dorm for 4 - 6 students, a quick shop (convenience store) where they can shop and one nice lot where they can party.

imma be honest with you, i had a hood of cc free uni lots ready for upload in the dead pc..
i think this might be motivation enough to redo all that

a CAS & building contest for a uni hood sounds new to me
iirc, i dont think we had something like that yet

can totally combine the whodunit idea + shoppers idea but they're all uni sims (students, professors, a student from a rival school, a visiting parent, an occult sim etc.)

What *exactly* does it entail to host a contest? And would one person (poor thing) have to host all the rounds or will different people host different rounds?

Hosting a contest requires a host to have completed all rounds of a contest.

You can find guidelines here: https://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=536856

A host is also responsible for getting the judges, answering questions about the rounds asked by contestants, post the scores and comments from the judges, announce the winner after each round and at the end, to think of some of the things I did.

@kanzen

There was a contest by Karen Lorraine years ago (Campus Construct) - the lots were large, though, and I thought that Uni really needs smaller lots too.
As for the characters: of course! Don't forget the sneaky secret society members and the glamorous sorority house members either
