[Tutorial] How to Downgrade Tray Files Game Version
This tutorial is for anyone who for some reason or anther doesn't want to update their game but still wants to use Households/Lots created with a newer game version.
When you download tray files created with a newer game version and try to place them you are meet with this dialog
“Cannot place content because it was created with a newer version of the game. Restart your game to check for updates.”
I will show you how to downgrade tray files to use with your game version.
Open Sims 4 Studio. Select Tools > Create Empty Package (Name it want ever you want).
Click Batch Import, import a .trayitem file created with your game version, then import the .trayitem that you want to modify.
Near the end of the data section find "Version" copy the entry and paste it into the newer tray items "Version" field.
Now click Batch Export, change Save as Type to All Filetypes, select the .trayitem then overwrite (make sure your not replacing your older .trayitem)
or you can just save as binary and manually rename it back to it's original name and file type.
Place the tray items into the tray folder, now hopefully you shouldn't get the dialog “Cannot place content because it was created with a newer version of the game. Restart your game to check for updates.”
Sims 4 Tray Importer will not show the edited file, once you resave the household/lot the new saved tray files will show in tray importer.
If you can't see file extensions, use this guide to enable them.
