This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Free Time, Apartment Life
Default More Memory ?
I've followed all the tutorials I could find.

There is a way (I think !) to get even more memory for my game so I can utilize more custom content, but so far I can only get it up to 2048mb.

Which is a step up from the first number.

But I've read and watched some tutorials saying you can get it higher ?

I am going to post screengrabs of my 'DESKTOP- 0NP1P7S.config-log ' if that helps.
I can also post my Dx-Diag if needed.
Tia for any suggestions ?
My PC is a desktop Win. 10 , and I have Sims 2 Deluxe dvd plus all of the stuff/expansion packs except Holidays installed.

4GB patch, tutorial/links here: https://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=610641

If you have M&G as your highest EP/SP, that's the EXE file you'll want to patch (Sims2EP9.exe). You don't have to patch the others (but you can also patch the Bodyshop EXE, it helps a lot to avoid crashing/loading issues/etc.- "TS2BodyShop.exe").

If you have issues getting the EXE patched, try copying the EXE file to the desktop, applying the fix there, and moving the EXE back again (overwriting the original file).

Thanks !
Where in the sims installation (C:x86 Program files) folder, is TS2BodyShop.exe ?

My first game was Sims 2 Deluxe.

Are you referring to the application in Mansions&Gardens (M&G is what I play my game from) ?

"The sims 2 Mansion and Garden Stuff > CSBin > *PackageInstaller *TS2BodyShop"
That app needs to be patched ?

I'm using the Mansions&Gardens (Exp.pack9) to open my body shop when I'm previewing hairs and things.

I looked in that Cx86 programs folder and wanted to make sure that app is the one to be patched, sorry.
Tia.

It's the EXE file called "TS2BodyShop.exe" in the M&G --> CSBin folder.
This will patch Bodyshop.
The "PackageInstaller" file is something else. No need to patch that one.

Yes, in the M&G --> TSBin folder. Should be named "Sims2EP9.EXE"
This will patch the game.

(* if the files don't have the ".exe" ending, but are "Program" files under "type", that's the correct ones, it just means you don't have file extensions showing).

@simmer22 ; Thanks so much !

Out of curiosity, how high can the memory go ?
My game is at 2048 MB right now.

For TS2 + Bodyshop it's max. 4096 mb

How much memory/RAM does your computer have?

The diagnostic tool seems to say 2048 mb, and the graphic card says 1024 mb. If the computer only has 2 GB on its own (weird, most computers these days have minimum 4, usually more), the memory patch likely won't help.

(Right-click "This computer/This PC" from any folder, and click "Properties". Check what it says at "Installed RAM")

10.0 GB.

I took 2 screenshots in case any more information can help.

Does getting more memory make the game run slower even though it can handle more custom content ?

Right now it's been a little bit laggy while playing and watching my sims in action with their environment, even in my test hood that has very little custom content and only ten sims; even though I've dumped a ton of CC and old saved neighborhoods into an external hard drive to make more room for my sims.

I will include 2 screengrabs :
The first is what the RAM and other info.

The second is how much space is available on my desktop pc.

10 gb is more than enough for TS2, so if you get the patch to work, that might help a bit.

Are you playing with empty stealth hoods and mods to cut down on NPCs? If not, your hood likely has more than just 10 (playable) sims, but as long as those NPCs/townies aren't visiting lots, they shouldn't be causing lagging.

TS2 can occasionally have some semi-random lagging here and there for no clear reason, but most of the time it's likely due to something happening on the lot, potentially out of camera view. Could possibly also be a CPU spike, as TS2 can be a bit CPU heavy, or something similar. Depends how much it's lagging - a slight slow "jump" here and there, or if it slows down or nearly freezes for several seconds or more. It's an old game, and not optimized for newer systems, so it has some quirks.

Regarding the bolded bit : Yes, I am doing that.

Will give the patch a try, thanks so much !
