Default No chimney recoloring in Legacy?
I must be missing some important zCEP file or something - I can't use the design tool to change the brick on any chimneys. I have lots of chimney recolors, but the tool says it is not recolorable. Help! My brain is currently fried after messing with some of my sister's broken CC packages.

Check your CEP install as the fireplaces are included. This tells you if your installation is correct:

The CEP documentation has a list of recolourable items, and which subsets are included.

My CEP is correctly installed. I have several working recolors of that potty chair. The issue is not the fireplaces - those recolors are working. It is the chimneys. I will check the CEP documentation.

Yes, I understand- the documentation tells you which fireplaces have recolourable chimneys with the CEP.

I have tried to recolor both the Gentrific and Casbah Casuals chimneys, and neither one works. The CEP documentations says they are recolorable, with a footnote 1, which I suspect means you recolor them a segment at a time using the design tool, just like the modular stairs. I have the CEP installed, I have the 3 additional fireplace CEP Extra files by HL installed. I am baffled. Does the manual installation of CEP have fewer zCEP files than the auto-installer?

I have just verified that the only fireplaces that have recolorable chimneys in my Legacy game are the LaBoheme and Warm and Toasty. Both are made recolorable by HL, and not the CEP itself.

I have all of them, but none work. Chimney recolors are not fireplace specific. I have all of Kimsie's chimney recolors. On the LaBoheme and Warm and Toasty chimneys, they pop up the recolor window with the design tool, but no actual recolors show up. All the rest give the "not designable" error when I use the design tool.

Some of them are (the Maxis ones have several different chimney styles).
If you can't design the chimneys then maybe you have something overriding the CEP? A custom fireplace that uses Maxis chimneys perhaps? Do they work in your game if you backup and test with just the CEP and chimney recolours?

I just tested using only the CEP and Kimsie's chimneys. The chimneys are still not recolorable. So then I put my entire Downloads folder into my UC game, and tested. All the base game chimneys are recolorable in UC, but the later LaBoheme and Warm and Toasty will not use the Kimsie recolors.

Can somebody, anybody, who has the Legacy game pretty please download a chimney recolor from Kimsie and see if it works in your game?

This explains why the recolor tool works for the fireplaces with your CEP. But why is that standard Maxis chimney no longer recolorable for me in the Legacy game? All other recolors work. Just not the usual Maxis chimney. They work in UC.

I have tried removing all custom fireplaces and their txt files, and re-installing the CEP. Still no chimney recoloring. Not just recolors not showing up, the design tool says it is not a recolorable item. Other CEP items show up as designable. Will try adding a second MMAT file in the latest EP. EDIT: FIXED!!!
