Force genetics and/or disable random townie generation?
Apologies if this is the wrong forum.

So, for years I've been wanting to create saves that are at least partially based on real life locations.
I've also seen custom worlds that mimic places such as Greenland, Dubai, the many worlds inspired by Polynesian islands, etc.

My question will sound a bit strange, but is there a way I can force specific genetics (skin/hair colour and face template), or at least disable random townie generation?

For example, I wanted to make a rural Japan save, but the game generates townies that are very much American.
I would also like to create a save in Saaqartoq and ideally the town would be populated by Inuit characters. It would be more realistic and fitting for the storyline I have in mind.
Name replacement mods are helpful, but they aren't sufficient.
If possible I would like to change town genetics to generate more Asian or Indigenous looking Sims, or at least limit random townies so that I can create my own Sims to populate the world.

Alternatively, it would be nice if the game could generate more mixed race folks as this might be useful for specific saves. I'm mixed myself.

Does somebody know how I can achieve the results I am looking for?

Probably not the way you want, but using Nraas Master Controller and a few sims that you need to customize yourself, you can get a level of preferred genetics. Customize, facial features, body types, other sliders you use, and clothing... save them and place in a house together. You can use MC to transfer genetics and clothing to other Sims. There are separate features to just transfer skin tones. Advanced, Play with genetics, choose a few sims as donors to change genetics of one sims ata time. Not the quickest way, but I often do that.

Thanks for the reply.

That would help a bit. I thought about making some starter Sims or homeless ones to populate the town as well.
I've never transferred genetics with Master Controller, is it difficult?

I read online that the game will always create some Sims to serve as cashiers, maids, babysitters, etc... if I could at least make the game generate Sims with a specific look, that would be great.

If possible, I don't know how to force the game to generate a certain appearance. To basically copy and paste genetics, click on a Sim... Nraas, MC, Advanced, Transfer Genetics. There are several options for how much of the genetics you transfer. Then it will ask for a destination Sim. Select your criteria. You can choose by age, gender,Role Sims, Service Sims, etc, or you can be more specific.

The other option involves clicking on a Sim, Nraas, MC, Advanced, Play With Genetics. Then, choose genetic donors. MUST be YA, A or Elder. No teens, chidren, etc. It might cause a freeze up! You can select all females, all males, or both. If you choose both, you cannot then try to select 2 males or 2 females, it will only allow one of each. You can change donors and click multiple times between the same donors. Genetics will be changed a bit each time.

It's been a while since I used NRAAS SP. But I think that one has an option to force the game to create new townies/NPCs from your bin or library: https://www.nraas.net/community/Sto...f-Bin-Offspring

I use Norn's method. Once you make the setting to use bin sims in generating new ones, you can put a few sims you like in there and forget about it. You may get tired of the surnames showing up again & again (not every time-nraas adds others from other sources I don't understand also). I figure the next time I do this, I'll give every single sim I make foir the bin a different surname to increase the pool.

Thanks guys. I also asked this on the Nraas forum and got a reply. Both Norn and the user from the Nraas forum suggested the Chance of Bin Offspring option. It seems like this will do most of what I want, and combined with the copy paste method that LadySmoks explained, my idea will probably work out.

I have a plan to make homeless Sims to populate the town a bit, though I don't want them to get 'cloned' by the game aside from their appearance. (I heard that the game will reuse Sims from the library multiple times).

I'm not experienced with SP at all, so I will have to mess around with options.

As for the surnames, I've seen replacement mods on MTS, but I thought about making my own replacements somehow and adding like 10.000+ names so that they don't repeat. I'm wondering about the best way to do this.
I don't know if there's a limit, either.
I'll try to create Sims with different appearances and names to diversify SP immigration.

I'm thinking that these methods may be useful even for fictional worlds (sci-fi/fantasy).
Interesting to know...

You can do a names replacement, but if you give your bin sims different surnames and set your options appropriately, those names seem to be used first, so that's 2 ways you can use, at least.

Cool, thanks. Would you say that the best way to do bulk name replacement would be by 'creating' a mod (sbtl file?) or by using one of the Nraas mods?
If I keep sims in the library, they will be used by the game, right? Because I don't mind having homeless townies wandering around, as long as I can control their appearance and name. And I'd rather not have multiple copies of the same person if possible.

From what I understand, the SP setting will generate townies that look like the Sims from the library, right? There will be a mixing of genetics and such. That sounds good to me.
I don't mind if the Sim is used once as an NPC, but I'd rather avoid doppelgangers of them.

My plan is to do something like this:

- Build a town or a city based on a real life place. I would use an existing empty file to make things easier, as CAW is too complex for me.
- Make my own families for storylines. They would have a specific appearance to simulate an ethnicity. There will be occasional 'tourists' or 'immigrants', but for some concepts I have, I'd need some 'homogeneity' in terms of appearance and name. (I want to simulate Greenland, Japan, etc...)
- Maybe I could create random Sims and decoy buildings to pretend that the region is more alive than it is. I don't usually play with a lot of families anyway, only select ones.
- Use Tempest to control the temperature and weather.
- Probably mess around with the vacation worlds and university, as well. I wanted to build my own lots and create my own Sims for them, to make them more realistic.

Basically, I just don't want EA townies walking around in my world if I can avoid it. If I'm playing more casually I don't mind them, but as I said before, I have specific ideas that rely on some sort of realism. I want to pretend my Sims are actual people xD

I know the game is centered in the US, but I can always improvise or handwave certain things.
