Default Game won't launch – Invalid semi-global error
Hi, could someone please help me solve this problem? I've never played The Sims 2 before, but I suddenly felt like trying it. So, I downloaded mods and things like that. I really don’t understand what’s going on, but now I keep getting this error that says something like “Invalid semi-global description.” I honestly don’t know how to fix it because I’m not familiar with the game. Could someone please help me out? Now the game won’t even open anymore.

So, just in case, what the image says is this.

We have detected that custom content is enabled in your game. This content may cause conflicts that affect the game in unintended ways.
The listed content may cause this kind of conflict. To disable it, select the option
"Disable custom content." This will disable all custom content in the game. You will need to restart the game to see the changes.

ACR - Controller - Bed Socials.package

ACR - Controller - Hottub Socials.package

Age Transition - Teens Keep Loves.package

CBOY_FatMoreTalkLess.package

CJ-MoreSleep.package

Are those the only mods you have from the ACR folder?

That's not an error, it's just the game complaining about the fact that you installed mods. Just tell the game to enable custom content, reload, and then completely ignore this dialog forever more.

No... It's not just the ACR ones that I have. I have more. In fact, besides those specifically, I also have other mods that are showing the same error.

I already did that, but it doesn't work. At first, it let me enter the game but then kicked me out, and now it doesn’t even let me get in at all.

Do you mean the game crashed? As in, you either got a dialog saying "the application has crashed and will now terminate", or the game just closes and goes straight to the desktop?

Have you tried deleting the cache files? You can find them in the The Sims 2 folder (Documents, same location as the Downloads folder). They're called "Groups.cache" and "Accessory.cache". These can cause crashes and make the game fail to start, but deleting them usually helps. If you ever use Bodyshop, you can also delete the "Contentregistry" file if it appears. The "Cigen.package" file can be somewhat useful for Bodyshop thumbnail loading, but can also be deleted.

Like everyone says, that screen is just a dialogue screen informing you that there's mods/CC installed. The game usually starts up with mods/CC not enabled. You have to click "enable custom content", then restart the game for it to actually show up. After this, you can hide the dialogue screen via an ingame menu (The dialogue screen is not needed, and only has information in it. It doesn't mean your game has a problem in any way, even if it looks a bit scary with all the warning signs when you see it for the first time).

Yes, I already deleted the cache files you mentioned (Groups.cache, Accessory.cache, Contentregistry, and even Cigen.package), but unfortunately, the game still doesn't work. It shows the initial loading screen, and while it's loading, it suddenly closes by itself and sends me straight back to the desktop — no error message or anything. It just shuts down on its own. Would I have to uninstall the whole game again? Because, honestly, I have a cracked version, so… what should I do?

It's also possible your game isn't set up properly - but make sure it's not the CC first - try moving out the downloaded files and try again. Some CC can cause crashes.

Too little memory access is a thypical problem that causes crashes. Try with the 4GB patch. If you're using Win10 or 11, it's pretty much a necessity.

(If the "[PCname]-Config-log" file in the Logs folder has 2048 or lower for the "memory" lines, especially if it says 32, this is definitely one of the problems.)

Which version of the game are you using? UC, Legacy, or something else?
