Default Alternative to Homecrafter Plus?
I'm playing Sims 2 Legacy Collection, Steam version. I can't find anything about Homecrafter for Legacy Collection, so I'm assuming it doesn't exist.

Is there an alternative way to create new walls and floors, and where would I find it?

There's no Homecrafter for Legacy, but you can give it a try with the original one. It's essentially EP compatible with the LC, so if it can figure out the pathing, it should be good. I've had it work with the UC (= different paths than the original, both for the savegame folder and the install folder)

It installs in an "EA Games" folder (totally normal, makes one if it can't find one), and saves the working files into the Project folder (probably makes one if it can't find one - for me it found the correct folde without having to do anything.

It has its own GraphicRules (in case you need to do anything there), I think I just had to do the 4GB patch (plus temporarily move out some shader mods like the "BrightCASFix" file when using homecrafter, as they can cause parts of the UI turning pink).

It's found in the archive here: https://modthesims.info/wiki.php?ti...0Site%20Archive

The original program was from 2006 (around the release of Pets/BV) - I don't think it was ever updated since... If it has worked with most other configurations up until now, there's a chance it will also work with LC.

Homecrafter can't figure out the pathing. I gave Homecrafter a try, but as I expected, it refused to install, telling me that I don't have The Sims 2 installed on my computer.

This makes sense, as not only is the name The Sims 2 Legacy Collection, it is buried in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Sims 2 Legacy Collection.

*But is there any other way to make walls and floors?* I can't remember any such function in SimPE, but back then I had access to Homecrafter and didn't need any other wall/floor/terrain making tool.

Edit: I've figured out how to make walls in SimPE. It's roundabout and tedious, but it works.

I'm not sure what Homecrafter looks for in particular (and have looked through what I could find of the install files to see if it's possible to set the filepath anywhere, but couldn't find anything).

I've had Homecrafter work with CDs on various Windows systems (Probably all the way from XP), and now I'm using the UC and it has both a different location and a different path than the original CD games (via a folder named Origin), and it did work seemingly without any issues. I think people have gotten it to work with "other" versions/locations, too. Seems all I did to make it work (with Windows 10) was to install it and do the 4GB patch (I looked over all the files, and the only one I've edited is the EXE file, which is from the 4GB patch).

No idea what would cause it to not work with the LC, at least if it's just the pathing, because the game has been through a whole variety of different paths and setups before LC.

Could be something in the EXE file (I don't know how to check those out).
Me? Sarcastic? Never.

It's weird that it can't figure out Lecacy? It worked with UC on Origin and it now works on UC with the EA app. It also worked with my disc installs, which were collections. The game used to be installed in Program Files (x86) and it's now installed in Program Files.

Are you using the tutorial for simpe? https://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=295411 I also posted in the SimPE thread, I suggest using 75.69 version.

I strongly suspect it's not working because Sims 2 is not installed in any usual location. I don't even have an "EA Games" folder, not in Program Files nor in Program Files (x86). The path is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Sims 2 Legacy Collection.

That's a lot to figure out if you're just a little auxiliary program from the early 2000s.

That's a great tutorial and I was using it, I read it all through and then gave it a try, only to find SimPE was not loading walls/floors/terrain in Object Workshop.

When I installed Homecrafter on the PC where I have my Origin game, Homecrafter made an "EA Games" folder, and the only thing in that folder is the Homecrafter install files. My game is in a folder named "Origin". So no, that has nothing to do with it.

If I'd been using my CD version of the game, Homecrafter would've found the EA Games folder and installed there (like it used to do). It either installs in a pre-existing EA Games folder, or makes one if it can't find it.

My game path is
C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection\

While the Homecrafter install files are in
C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 HomeCrafter Plus

(My Documents folder looks like this: )
C:\Users\username\Documents\EA Games\The Sims™ 2 Ultimate Collection

--

Reasonably sure the original CD paths for the install files (back before there were collections/UC/LC/etc.) used to be something like
C:\Program Files (x86)\EA Games\The Sims 2\
or, depending on OS,
C:\Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2\

and this for the savegame
C:\...\Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2
(The first part of the path varied with the OS).

--

But again, not sure what spesifically Homecrafter looks for when it figures out whether it can find the game or not.

So I created an EA GAMES folder (empty), Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\ and a folder at Documents\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\ (empty). Homecrafter still won't install. Folders aren't enough, apparently.

Whatever it's looking for, it's not finding it. It simply says Sims 2 is not installed, install Sims 2 before installing this program. Maybe it's looking for a specific registry entry that doesn't exist with the Steam edition.

If you use the handy Bodyshop for Legacy installer it creates the right Windows Registry entries so that Homecrafter will also work. I have it working on my PC with Legacy. https://modthesims.info/d/690428/bo...collection.html It does, however, take FOREVER to load, and you may need to use the 4 gig patch on HomeCrafter. I can't remember if I did or not. You CAN do walls and floors in SimPE.

Using Legacy Installer for Bodyshop did the trick and immediately after, Homecrafter installed with no problem! Thank you, rhiamom! I might never have installed Bodyshop otherwise because I simply suck at editing clothing, so your advice here was very helpful.

Edit: 4G patch wasn't needed.
