Default Neighborhood Deco - No Pic
Hi,

I'm creating my own neighborhood deco for the first time and it does show up in game, but without a thumbnail in the menu unfortunatly.
I cloned an existing neighborhood plant and replaced it with an object from buy mode, so I think I just need to set a flag somewhere, but I can't find any information on this anywhere.

Does anyone have an idea how to fix it?

I don't think it's because the thumbnail needs fixing. I've seen the "No Pic" happen occasionally (and briefly stumbled across it while trying to debug a buymode object that didn't want to become recolorable, though I can't remember what caused it). I think it's something to do with the mesh or texture resources that's slightly off, but not off enough for the object itself to show up relatively fine when placed. It's a rare-ish bug, though it seems to happen more often for hood deco.

I have one object that shows up like this in my downloads, but it's an object with just effects - I don't think it even has a mesh/texture (which probably explains the thumbnail).

If the thumbnail isn't set via camera, it looks for a mesh/bounding box, and if it can't find this for some reason, I assume it does the "no pic".

There has to be something I'm breaking by "transforming" it into nhood deco, I tried to do it with another CC plant and get the same issue (No Pic).
I do think I messed up the texture resources somehow, or didn't link them properly (?), because whenever I try to preview the object in SimPE, I get an error (The defining CRES resource was not found. As a result, SimPE is unable to build the joint hierarchy) and the texture will not be loaded onto the object.

I tried with another nhood CC that works fine in game and it shows up normal.

I don't know how the nhood thumbnails work, but it would make sense that it can't just show the mesh without the texture so it doesn't show anything at all, if that makes sense?
I'm sorry I don't really know anything about object creation / cloning etc. I just brute forced it so idk if I missed a step somewhere along the line. I tried to look into the thumbnail fix, but I don't think nhood objects have a thumbnail extension unfortunatly.

Maybe I can figure out how to create a custom thumbnail for my plants and leave it at that, since they appear perfectly fine ingame (just without their thumbnail), I'm just a bit concerned that I broke more than just the thumbnails.

The CRES issue can sometimes happen when you do "Fix Integrity" in the middle of a project. I've found that there's no way to fix the bug once it happens (at least not that I know of), and it's better to just start over with the file, as it can cause the file to become buggy (especially the mesh part, possibly also the thumbnail since it can't find the cres?)

Make sure the "Set custom Group ID" option is ticked in SimPE in the cloning options. The "Scenegraph Rename Wizard" that pops up does essentially the same as "Fix Integrity", and lets you give the item a new internal name - but ensures this step gets done before you do anything else to the file. In most cases you don't need to do "Fix Integrity" again (I prefer to avoid it - if I add MMATs, I manually fix the instance, and if I need to add TXMT/TXTRs edit the names of them, I use the "Fix TGI" option. Less buggy...).

If you do need to do "Fix integrity" again, I've found it's less buggy if you save your progress, close and reopen the file, do "Fix Integrity", save/close/reopen the file, and continue working. Maybe not always necessary, but considerably lower chance to cause the Cres issue (tried and tested over 15-ish years).

These are the options ticked when I clone an object. I think that's the default setting, but I also found it somewhere in an old tutorial online, so I didn't dare change anything.
I've never actually used "Fix Integrity", and the "No CRES Resource found" appears for every object I turn into nhood deco, so I don't think it's a bug unfortunately.

Here's one of my files, if that helps at all.

Did you clone a neighborhood deco item, or "brute-force" a buy mode item?

Several of the resources look like they've been pulled from a buy mode object, so that could also explain some of the issue. The resource names don't match the ones in the "modelname" in the XNGB.

If you want to use resources from a buy mode item in a neighborhood item, it's better to clone a NH deco item, extract the mesh and texture from the buy mode item, and replace them inside the GMDC/TXTR, rather than replace all the resources and add in what's missing for the NH deco (not sure that's what you did, but it almost looks that way? - the CRES is set up as a sculpture rather than a NH deco item, and the GMND has shadow groups and whatnots).

It looks like you changed all the names of the resources without hitting fix TGI for each. I understand the need to have the internal name show what the object is, but it breaks a whole of stuff if not done properly.

If you run Fix Integrity the scenegraph is properly linked (apart from a shadow) and it properly places in game. However it doesn't have a thumbnail and doesn't show, but it definitely places.

It looks like you edited the XNGB? The placementsurface was set to 3 which is not a valid category. The only valid ones are 0x00 land, 0x01, water, 0x02 land and water. And because you changed the resource names the modelname was incorrect. This needs to match the cres name. So replace that value with the scenegraph name, after you've run Fix Integrity.

If you want a name/description to show in catalog edit the str. Line 0 is name, line 1 is description and line 3 is price. By default with SimPE the str is blank, you'll have to add them.
