This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Free Time, Apartment Life
Default The Sims 2 Legacy Crashes When Loading Neighborhood
I was playing The Sims 2 Legacy on Windows 11 for a while and everything was working fine. Then I decided to add some custom content as usual (hairstyles, clothes, furniture, etc.) But when I try to load a new neighborhood and start the process of creating pets, the game crashes without throwing any warnings. I tried disabling my custom content, but it keeps crashing. Does anyone know how to fix this? I can't play The Sims 2 Legacy anymore with this problem. I need help, please...

1: Does your game still work without the CC you added? (move it out of the Dowloads folder, disabling it sometimes isn't enough)

2: Did you remove the cache files (accessory.cache, groups.cache) after adding CC, and after removing/disabling it?

3: If the answer to #1 is yes, and the game (with CC) is still causing issues after doing #2, you might need to do a 50/50 search to figure out exactly what is causing the problem. Most likely it's one or more items causing problems (yes, furniture and CAS items can cause issues with crashing. Buggy furniture can cause crashing when loading the game/neighboorhoods/lots, while buggy CAS items in most cases cause crashing when they're selected in menus or applied).

Hmm... I was testing the game without the Downloads folder and it worked just fine. But I still want to play with CC. And how can I know exactly which CC is corrupted? Is there any program that can detect corrupted .package files?

Buy/build/CAS items often can't be detected as "bad", so most often with those items you'll have to do it yourself.

The things that can be detected are GUID conflicts (which in my experience tend to not be the cause of crashes, even if they cause other issues - I probably had 10+ items with GUID conflicts happily coexisting with everything else in my Downloads folder for several years until I rooted them out, and the worst they did was badly overwriting some of the original objects, or make a few items unusable, or cause errors) and BHAVs (which in most cases aren't modified for objects), plus several things mostly related to mod conflicts.

The 50/50 method may sound like it takes a lot of time, but often it doesn't if there's just one bad item. If there's more than one, it can be a bit more difficult to find them, though. Doesn't hurt to give it a try.

Plus, you're often better off putting in new CC in smaller batches, so it's easier to tell where the problems start.

In my experience, buggy repo'd/slaved objects (mesh items that borrow textures from another "master" object) can be the cause of crashes at loading, so you could see if you have any and give those a test first (make sure to put in the "master" objects too, or they'll flash blue).
