Default Picture-taking Guidelines
Edit: This is all in reference to Sims 2.

Some of the guidelines for taking preview pictures of uploads are...well, I won't say how I really feel, but let's just say they leave a lot (no pun intended) to be desired. These often silly guidelines are one of many smaller irritants why I removed all my Lot uploads from this place, years ago. I'm referring solely to picture guidelines for Lots.

For example, whoever thought that this picture is better or more useful than this picture needs to have their head examined.
The reason is simple. Due to the linear and angular nature of the game, it is almost always more desirable to show a house from an oblique angle, because it conveys depth, rather than from head-on, which presents a house as a flat picture and does not convey depth.
Many people show Lot pics from head-on perspectives, from all four sides, when it would be much better to show houses from the four corners, or at least somewhat off to the sides (and slightly above). That the obviousness of this is not readily seen and apparently needs to be explained is mind boggling.

Also, the guideline for floorplan pics that says 'Focus on the building, not the surrounding landscaping' should be more enforced, since there are many Lot makers, including some that have been uploading for years, that try to include the entire Lot in their floorplan pics. Floorplan pics should be taken from as close in as possible, to make it as easy as possible to see the floorplan and furniture layout. Pics of landscaping, on the other hand, should be part of exterior shots, not interior floorplans.

Take it for what it's worth, it's free constructive advice from someone who uploads their Lots elsewhere with better standards (see my signature link).
