Sims 1 Wall + Floor Categorisation via Price
Okay; so one of my minor frustrations with The Sims 1 is the lack of categorisation within the walls and floor tool. I.e. I use a certain wallpaper or floor on a build and if I need to use it again I'm having to search/scroll through the catalogue until I re-find it because Sims 1 only orders assets via price.
So I had the idea to alter the cost of all of the wallpapers and floors in game and re-categorise them using pricing based on the Sims 2 categories (Masonry, Brick, Paint etc) via price; for example all paint would cost 1-3 simoleons, all wallpaper 4-5 simoleons and so on with the most expensive being masonry. That way the catalogue would be easier to navigate.
All of the base game walls and floors are located in the build.iff in the gamedata folder with which I'm able to edit the price directly, no problem there.
All of the expansion pack walls and floors are located within each individual expansion pack .far file. I extracted a couple of wallpapers to test from Livin' Large within the expansionpack.far, altered the price via SimWallCat and dropped the new .wll file back into the expansion pack folder hoping it would overwrite the original upon load up. Unfortunately I get a duplicate wallpaper in the game with a different price.
I then tried leaving the altered wallpaper file within the Wall folder for custom walls but again ended up with a duplicate with a different price.
I also tried copying the structure of the original .far file; so I created a folder within the ExpansionPack folder containing a folder named "WallsAndFloors" to match the structure within the .far file hoping it would overwrite the file that way but my altered .wll file did not show up in game.
Finally I tried deleting the original .wll file I was trying to replace from the .far file, importing the new altered .wll file to replace it and saved a new .far containing my altered .wll file. Upon loading the game the original .wll with the original price is still displayed!
I feel like I've scanned every file in the game trying to figure this out with no luck. Does anybody else have any inkling on how to solve this?
