Hi @TudorMan23 What are you building this week? I made a coffe shop/ pool hall for my sims. It's called the Coffee Pot! (Groan)

Holy smoke, that's stunning, simsample. I like the appearance of different roof levels, and the exterior color combo is perfect. Doesn't look like much CC either.

Thank you @ScaryRob ! This was my inspiration image:

So you can see that I'm not really original, I just copied a real architect!

Here's a pic of my 16-year-old computer that I finally got rid of a couple of months ago.

More modern than mine; my computer doesn't have CD drive, I installed my Sims games with the record player drive!

TudorMan23 24th Jan 2025 5:19 PM

Very nice @TudorMan23 Are you building a whole neighbourhood like that? Amazing roof!

I'm at the opposite end of the scale, making an abandoned grocery shop for my post-apocalyptic hood. No food!

You kept the box - just for the cup-holder alone - right?

Due to the re-release of Sims 2 (as well as Sims 1) by Electronic Arts, the Sims 2 "Starter Pack" has been made unavailable due to violating the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA):

https://github.com/voicemxil/TS2-UC-Touchup

Can't say I'm surprised.
So, now I'm without a game, since I neglected to reinstall it after I recently got a new computer. I have no intention of buying EA's re-release, especially since by most accounts (including April Black's) it's buggy and does not include the IKEA stuff pack.

And since EA apparently changed the source code of the game, it also would not surprise me if some or many of the mods that players have made stop working - but maybe I shouldn't speculate on that since I know nothing about modding, so take that comment with a large grain of salt. I hope that's not the case.

Not particularly smart, imo, were the players who, over the years, blithely wished for EA to re-release the game, without realizing that there was a high chance that it would result in a major clusterfuck. And if anyone thinks that EA is now going to go on a bug-fixing spree, they're delusional. They're going to only do what is required to get it to run for most people, after which they'll put a fork in it and call it done.

At least the re-release indicates a tacit acknowledgement by EA of the continued popularity of Sims 2. Unfortunately, this has no tangible benefit for players - quite the contrary, at least for now.

I noticed that Sims 1 has gone from the Internet Archive, too. EA are flexing their IP.

What do you mean by "IP" in that context? I've always understood it to mean Internet Protocol, so I don't understand what you're saying.
