12 Years A Slave - 2013

It's a good film with beautiful cinematography. I'm finding extremely annoying some of the comments about how 'shocked' people are and 'everyone should have to see this.' - what? before this film you thought slavery wasn't really so bad or something?
I got the free ebook from Google books, so I can compare the book and the film.

I rewatched Pacific Rim today on DVD - 8/10, cannot go wrong with giant robots punching giant aliens.

In cinemas I saw Thor 2 last week - 7/10, great movie but not Mavel's best. The cameo (not Stan Lee) deserves a 10/10 by itself though.

I watched a rerun of Bewitched - 7 or 8/10 - very cute, enjoyable film. Nicole Kidman and Shirley MacLaine were cast perfectly. Being a fan of the old 60s show, I was wary of anything smacking of a remake. They did a clever take on it by doing a movie about bringing back a classic. I didn't realize that Steven Colbert had a role in it, nor did I realize he was an actor.

I'm glad to see some ratings about Catching Fire. I loved the first movie, but wondered how it would be for anyone who had not read the book. I found Pirate-Wolf's comment particularly helpful because I'm thinking of dragging my boyfriend with me to go see it and he has neither read the books nor seen The Hunger Games. The costumes, sets, cinematography, and visual effects in the first film were rich and rewarding.

Heaven-Sent, I'm glad to see that you finally watched The Croods and rated it highly. My son worked on that film and I'm proud of what he accomplished. I've seen it a few times. Like so many classic kids' films, the more I watch it, the more I appreciate the emotional aspects of the story and I find myself tearing up at certain points every time. I wish Dreamworks had done more with merchandising after the film so that people who enjoyed it could extend their experience of it. The few toys they had made were pitiful and the tee shirts are somewhat dull. I would love to have a soft plush mousephant, myself, for example, or a tee shirt showing the first time the Croods saw the night sky. Disney is a master of merchandising. They must plan that aspect out before they even begin a film.

You watch a lot of movies. Did you do the list above within a week?

Frozen was really good. Not as good as Tangled (or the Lion King, they keep comparing it to that, wtf) but very nice. The snow man thing was less annoying than expected.

8/10, cant' wait to take my little sisters to see it.

Artimis 13th Dec 2013 6:41 PM

watching Percy Jackson 2, so far 3/10 unfaithful to the book it was based and makes little sense to the story. Also cursed blade shall reaped? that does not appear until one of the later books and did not apply to the son the posibon.

Update: just finished watching it 2.5/10 me being a huge a fan of the books and have audio books of all of them along with being a fan of greek mythology this film is not that wonderful and I have to say that first the film was better.

The Conjuring (2013) - 1/10
Gravity (2013) - 8/10
Gravity was such an amazing movie I would suggest watching it because it is so worth it,I rarely say that about movies

Gabrymato 16th Dec 2013 1:09 PM

Thor 2 (7/10)
I hate hate hate superhero movies, but my boyfriend dragged me to see it and to be honest I quite enjoy going to the movies. It was not bad. I didn't even watch the first one though, so I didn't understand much but it was ok.

Trading Places (6/10)
Even if it's rather old, I saw it yesterday for the first time, and I have mixed feelings. It is funny, I admit it, but it's way too politically incorrect towards black people and gays.

efolger997 17th Dec 2013 12:59 AM

Frozen - (8/10)
Catching Fire - (9/10)
Kiki's Delivery Service (for about the fifth time) - (10/10)
Atlantis: The Lost Empire - (8/10)
...Just realized all I seem to watch are kids' movies, haha. Well they're more positive than most adult movies so I don't mind

piggypeach 18th Dec 2013 2:38 AM

Frozen: 10/10.

I'm a sucker for Disney, and I fell in love with the music and the characters. I felt a bit silly raving over an animated disney movie and convincing my friends to watch it. I had very low expectations of this movie because I watched it without seeing the trailer. The only thing I knew about it was Olaf the snowman because I saw him in some promotional cut scene, doing some cute snowman stuff and I thought it would be some ditzy movie about that snowman, kind of like that Rise of the Guardians movie. It basically blew my mind. Ha.

Frozen (2013) - 5/10
I thought it was good but it did drag on a bit to much for my liking but i thought it was very funny and had a good meaning behind the story. If you have children or love Disney films you will love it.

Hobbit: desolation of Smaug 10/10

Awesomeness with wild pugs!! And a bad ass elf troop

Noa1500 25th Dec 2013 12:31 AM

A french movie called Safari on TV5 Europe. I watched it with the parentals, so they translated when the dutch subtitles didn't help. It was Hi-le-ri-us (as I like to say)
It's comedy were a bunch of people go on as safari (hence the title) and stuff keeps happening
Shockingly the charts rated it 3/5 stars?! The rating is too low in my opinion.

ChaoticNeutral 25th Dec 2013 1:07 AM

Machete and Machete Kills. I agree with the 7/10 rating I see around.
I want to see Thor 2 and The Hobbit 2, both suit my tastes quite well. :3

28 Days Later - 8/10 Definitely one of my favorite infection films. I just love the characters.

The Hobbit 2 - The desolation of Smaug

It's been a while since I read the book (I think I read it - as I said, it's been a while, probably at least 8 years or thereabout), so basing it solely on the movie experience, I'd give it an 8/10, losing a point because they stopped it just when it was getting really exciting. Overall, I liked it much better than the first one. I sat giggling through the entirety of Stephen Fry's performance (just because XD), and the dragon was quite well made (plus for Cumberbatch's voice). I also loved the whole thing with the dwarves trying to escape, and later hide (LOL got a whole new meaning, and yes, I do laugh out loud at the movies). Also loved Martin Freeman's many expressions. He's the best-acting hobbit so far (including LotR), in my opinion. Kinda like "OMGWTFbleep-am-I-doing-here???", but in a good way, in every turn of events. Got more than enough practice in Sherlock, I guess XD.

Don Jon. A little "alternative" but was overall good. Didn't felt right to see Scarlett Johanson be left aside, though.
