Contracted - 3/10
I'm not normally affected by gross stuff, but when maggots started coming out of her vajayjay I had to look away. Not a good movie by any means, but it had a few redeeming qualities. Wouldn't recommend unless you're a fan of body horror.

Antiviral - 6/10
Strange movie. I liked it and the same time I didn't. The topic was very interesting and relevant, however.

Thank You For Smoking - 5/10
I enjoyed watching it a lot, but afterwards I started realizing that it was filled with plots that didn't go anywhere and didn't really exist for a reason. I'd still recommend it though, as I had a great time while I was watching it.

Coraline - 10/10
Watched it four times now, and it's still just as good.

Fentonparkninja 26th Oct 2014 2:19 AM

Limitless: 6/10
I enjoyed it up to the point where it ended, where I was like "what? is that the end?". I felt like Bradley Cooper's character should have gotten some kind of comeuppance or lost access to his drugs or something.

Pacific Rim: 5/10
I was really looking forward to seeing this, but as things went on, I got annoyed with the focus on Gypsy Danger (US), especially when both Cherno Alpha (Russia) and Crimson Typhoon (China) get smoked like punks in the first fight. Even Striker Eureka (Australia) only lived to the end of the last fight. Yes, I know only America may save the world, but that doesn't mean other nationalities must serve as redshirts or villains/rivals.

Avatar: 10/10
This film encapsulates virtually everything I love in a movie - sci-fi technology, space marines, romance and the 'epic' type of storytelling ala Star Wars. I literally cannot wait for the sequels to arrive. Hurry up Mr Cameron, get it done!

Robocop (2014): 6/10
I was a great fan of the original movie, and while I liked the new look for Robo, I felt like there was far too little action and way too much focus on Murphy's wife and son. Basically, too much talking and not enough of Robo out there cleaning up the streets. I like my action films with a little more action.

I read some where that Avartar 2,3 and 4 will filmed simultaneously starting this year or James Cameron may have already started filming now.

Quote from this site: screenrant.com/avatar-2-3-4-sequels-2016-2017-2018/
'Avatar 2 is expected to release in December 2016, Avatar 3 will follow in December 2017, with Avatar 4 closing things out in December 2018.'

I'm definitely going to watch all 3 of the films when i come out.
I have the Avartar Extended Collector's Edition on Blu-ray
which has Three Movie Versions
1. Original Theatrical Edition
2. Special Edition Re-Release
3. Collector’s Extended Cut with 16 additional minutes, including alternate opening on earth

the one that is bold is the one that i always watch when i watch Avatar I've not watched the other two yet.
you can get the DvD and Blu-ray version for under £20.00 if you are ever interested in buying it and i definitely recommend it

Avatar, Collector’s Extended Cut
10/10

such a great film, i'm a bit excited for the 3 upcoming Avartar films

Hi,

As some have stated here, Avatar is quite popular. For me... not so much. I thought that was a bit crap TBH, but that's just my opinion, no need to bash me with blunt objects.... Yes, you can put that down now...
( BTW I'll skip all the mediocrity, who want's to read that )

As for me, recently I saw Her. I would give it 9/10. Truly brilliant piece of cinema.
Basically its a love story between a guy and... an operation system. Sounds bizarre, but it really grows on (some) people. It's way more than just another romance where a boy meets a girl and all the mushy stuff happens. Blah, I avoid that kind of thing like a wildfire. This film though... it's so much deeper, it makes you think what is love, or all emotions in fact; what it is to be alive. Not the easiest film to watch, but if you give it a go you might find something amazing.

A trailer here:

Another film (I saw that a while ago) is Cloud Atlas. Probably the most underrated film since The Shawshank Redemption. It's a difficult film to watch, but very worth the effort. It's a tale of several people living in different times, while the main focus is here of freedom / slavery there are other issues in there as well. The ending is a bit meh, but the journey is brilliant. 9/10.

Trailer:

Right, that's me. I'm off to bed.

I am in the middle of watching "I Saw the Devil." I couldn't sleep last night / early morning so got up to watch a movie on Netflix. I am almost a third through it, and I'll give it a 6 out of 10, so far. I have yet to finish it (got interrupted by people waking up so I may finish it tonight). I am very curious as to where the movie goes from here, because the main character has already enacted his revenge, and I've still got over an hour left.

It's very violent, though. VERY violent.

Last full movie I watched: Good Morning, Vietnam. I'll give it a 7. It was good and I liked it. I liked all the characters in it.

Notebook? You mean that one?:

Sorry, couldn't help myself

-------------------------------------------------------------

But back to business.
Today I woke up with a cold, so I stayed all day on the sofa under dozen blankets, sniffing some white powder, chewing some tablets and drinking a lot of unspecified fluids. That gave me time to dig through my film library. I've got quite a few films there, so I'll probably post some more "reviews" shortly. For now just one film, which I watched today:

Angel-A
It's a film by Luc Besson, about a guy who has a bit of cash flow problem, specifically when some not very friendly people demand that he pays up. He doesn't see a way out, so he decides to end his life by jumping of a bridge. Just before the jump, he meets a girl... who claims to be an angel. Although you wouldn't think so by the was she acts. I don't want to write too much (spoilers), so go on and watch it

It's quite "artsy" film, made wholly in black and white. Also is in French, so practice your subtitle reading. Unless you speak French. I do only a little, so had to read, I was OK though.
Film is very pleasant to watch, has some funny moment's, some tragic, some action-y stuff too. All-and-all it's a French film (that says it all) That means it's not fort everyone. 8/10

Trailer (sorry for a poor quality, couldn't find a better one:

Zarathustra 6th Nov 2014 7:25 PM

Apollo 13 and also The Right Stuff. On a scale of 1-10, let's say I'd give both of them a 13. I will never get tired of watching these movies. The space program of the 1960s is just awe-inspiring. Centuries from now, when even World War II has become just another historical footnote, the fact that humanity took its first steps on another world in 1969 will still be incredible. As I see it, the Apollo Program is THE defining event of the 20th Century.

Hi there,

Let's get strait to the point, shall we?

The Fountain
A romantic/drama/sci-fi film by Darren Aronofsky. It is one of my favourite films... maybe even THE favourite one. It's just perfect for every occasion: A romantic evening with a girlfriend, a night in with pals, a parents' visit, an evening where I just want to sit back and enjoy "the ride", or get the braincells going with something thought-provoking. That's the film for all that. Fascinating story, great acting and beautiful visual effects. 10/10 (and I'm not giving that kind of score lightly)

HEAVEN-SENT 9th Nov 2014 10:51 AM

Boyhood (2014) - 8/10
Deliver Us from Evil (2014) - 1/10

Noa_4ever 10th Nov 2014 4:44 AM

Horns (2014) - 7.5/10

I enjoyed it quite a bit.

efolger997 10th Nov 2014 5:08 AM

Princess Mononoke - 10/10 of course. It was about the fourth time I'd seen it.

Evil Dead (2013) - 7/10. Thought this was a pretty good horror movie. Basically about a group of teens who go away to a lodge in the woods (lol) and one of them noses about and finds a book about demons etc and stupidly decides to read one of the pages out loud, summoning one. Sounds a bit ridiculous and I didn't have high hopes for it but it was actually a pretty good movie. Nice little twist at the end.

Ah, the remake. Haven't seen that one yet. The original is a cult classic. There are 3 altogether- the last one (Army of Darkness I think?) is hilarious. Bruce Campbell, what more can I say?

Last movie I watched: Reign Over Me with Adam Sandler and Don Cheadle. (2007) If you haven't watched it, give it a try. I give it a definite 7/10, maybe even 8/10.

The Natoorat 10th Nov 2014 1:43 PM

Yesterday I saw a great Danish film:

The Hunt (aka Jagten )
A story of a guy wrongly accused of molesting children.
Good story, great acting, "heavy" atmosphere, thought provoking. It shows quite well the modern attitude towards children. 9/10

Trailer:
(BTW that trailer is crap, it makes the film look like a next installment of Die Hard, but that's just BS. The film is quiet and relatively slow paced.

EDIT: Just remembered another film with Mads Mikkelsen from "a while back".
Adam's Apples. It's a dark-ish comedy, very funny as I recall, and in the end a feel-good movie. I would give it 8/10.

Again, the trailer is a bit crap, it doesn't give the "feel" of the actual movie.

9/10, cuz of glasses not being authentic enough.

Just so you know, the original is pretty cheesy and kind of ridiculous. If you ever want to watch the other 2, they're pretty much the same BUT- the last one (Army of Darkness) isn't quite as ridiculous (probably thanks to the special effects being better) although it is hilarious. Well, at least I think it is. (Bruce Campbell!! What more can I say, lol.. besides the fact that I watched Burn notice more often after he joined the cast. )

PANDAQUEEN 12th Nov 2014 12:47 AM

Wayne's World 1 - 11/10
(not being cute about the music theme)
Where do I start? It shows a great turning point between the 1980s and 1990s in terms of cultural phenomena. Tia Carrere as Cassandra was great, but the fact Tia voiced Nani in "Lilo and Stitch", makes it hard not to think that 10 years after, her voice and cadence in vocals remained the same.

One of Mike Myers' best films that secured his status for post-SNL and probably only one of a few instances when Dana Carvey would be a hit. (His humor is a bit too much for some people and a good number of his films were failures.)

I originally wanted to see Alice Cooper acting calm and otherwise composed, which I did see...but I gained equal admiration for Dana Carvey.

Shoosh Malooka 12th Nov 2014 11:11 AM

Kickboxer 3 - The Art of War
Ugh. Remember Kickboxer with Jean-Claude Van Damme as Kurt Sloane in the fight of his life against this inhumane Tong Po who paralyzed his brother? If your enemy refuses to by humbled... destroy him! Well Sloane is back, and now he's played by this wiseguy actor who, btw, likes to beat up his wife while she is shielding her baby.

This movie, Kickboxer 3, is just going through the motions of an action flick. Worse, it likes to just wander on its own just to filibuster for the finale. Sloane goes to Rio de Janeiro and becomes involved in a premeditated fight scheduled for the end. But what to do in the meanwhile? Let's investigate the city like private detectives in search of a missing girl, get in pointless fights so that we can interview lesser crime lords, get thrown in jail only to be bailed out immediately having learned no lessons, infiltrate another crime lord's estate to kill his seven bodyguards using guns, then just work out for another half hour before the last fight. Do you know what the moral of this story is? Xian, played by the original actor, tells the main villain that "everything we do will come back to us." That's the best they could come up with.

I have to mention that Xian quotes Sun Tzu and the Art of War, but Sloane is so meatheaded that he has never heard of it, what kind of martial arts dude are you, man?

Oh wait, there was also that part where the boy pressed a button on a handle, popping a blade, and he hissed "I will keel them" to which Xian responded, "and will you not also be dead... in HERE?" *points to his heart* When that happened I nearly committed seppuku. There is plenty to groan about here. Every time any bad guy is shown it's so that they can remind the audience "we're evil," Sloane is always wisecracking and the boy doesn't respect him, the martial arts sequences don't look like they are trying and execution is not exciting, the gunfights are so lame that Sloane needs only to duck while the men shooting at him target the food on the table behind him, and Sloane pets Xian on the head like he's a pet dog. Why is this happening to Kickboxer? This had to have gone straight to dvd.

It played late last night on MayTV and I was just insomniac. That's not the end of it. Apparently Kickboxer did not kick the bucket, because there was a Kickboxer 4.

Rating: D-

Ah, I watched a few more recently that I forgot to write about:

Napoleon Dynamite: 9/10
Once I saw the part where Napoleon ties a He-Man to some fishing line and throws it out the school bus window, I knew I was on to a winner. It's also the only film where any character has said "just follow your heart" and made me smile rather than roll my eyes.

Real Steel: 7/10
While the whole father-son reconnection theme was forgettable for me, I enjoyed the boxing scenes a lot. There was also something about the music I really liked, though I can't figure out exactly what it was.

Oblivion: 7/10
One of the things that struck me about this film was how empty the setting felt. I felt like the idea of Earth being deserted came across better here than most films in a post-apocalyptic setting. I thought Tom Cruise's co-star (the English chick) was really attractive as well.

efolger997 13th Nov 2014 5:06 AM

The Tunnel (Der Tunnel) - 8/10. I thought it was a good movie and it kept my interest even though it was long.

Summer In Berlin (Sommer vorm Balkon) - 4/10. It was okay, but I didn't really see a cohesive plot. Not one of my favorites.

Both were seen this week for a special event my school is having, showing a German film every day of the week to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall.

I also saw Mean Girls today, which I'll rate 7/10. While lacking emotional depth and multi dimensional characters, it's still hilarious and fun to watch.

mustluvcatz 13th Nov 2014 9:11 AM

Evil Dead (2013)

I was sad because Netflix doesn't have this available for streaming and I don't have the DVD option. So when I saw that Family Video had it in their $1 movie section, I snagged it. I'll tell you what I thought of it as a person who has seen all 3 of the original Evil Dead movies:

"They" managed to make a true horror movie out of the Evil Dead. As a spooky/supernatural/horror movie lover, this made me happy. What didn't make me happy was that I couldn't stop comparing the 2 movies, which is unfair to both movies. The original Evil Dead was meant to be more like this movie- that was Sam Raimi's original intention. Then Bruce Campbell was hired, there wasn't much of a budget... so the movie ended up being more of a horror comedy. Which is okay with me! (I've been looking for new, unopened copies- that I can afford- of all 3 movies so I can hoard them for the rest of my life, lol.) I wouldn't be surprised to learn that one of the reasons the movie was remade was so that it could be made as it was originally intended to be.

All that said, I did like the movie. If you like horror movies, blood and gore- you'll probably like it too. I won't rate it because I've got that original movie/new movie conflict going on in my mind. But I will recommend it to any horror movie fans.

The Natoorat 13th Nov 2014 2:58 PM

@ mustluvcatz

If you like horrors with supernatural touch, have you watched Jacob's Ladder? I've seen it a while ago, but I seem to remember that it's quite a good film. Silent Hill games are said to be inspired by that film.

As for me: I saw 2 films recently, first one being...

Interstellar
Saw that a couple days ago in cinema. A Sci-Fi film, where the Earth is dying and humans must find a new plant to live on. Now... the story is a bit cliche, but it has some interesting bits here and there (like: revised history propaganda). Sadly the film suffers from the "Hollywood factor" where main characters have supermodel looks (including main hero's child who is as sweet as a bag of sugar), and secondary characters are decently good looking as well. Also script has some logical problems: for instance I (although, I have to admit, I'm not a physicist) would not choose a planet right on the edge of a black hole as a potential home for my species. It might be just me though.
S... story is meh, but audio-visual side is nice. Not enough to redeem the film imho.
Relatively pleasant but forgettable movie. 5/10

Another film which I saw yesterday fares much better.

Nebraska
Now, this one is far more "down to earth" than the Interstellar. An old man is convinced he won $1.000.000 and he has to travel to Nebraska to claim it. His son is trying to explain that it's a scam, but the father will have none of it. Defeated son agrees to take his father to Nebraska, just to indulge old man's fantasy.
It's a bit depressing tone, but there are quite a few situations / lines that made me laugh out loud. Unlike the other film, this one is "real". What I mean, it's not perfect: there is no ideal lighting that flares up in a right moment to make the scene more dramatic, there are no supermodels everywhere, no overblown dialogue underlining the importance of the situation etc. It's a "real" film about "real" people in "real" situation with "real" problems.
It's an emotional and memorable film, very touching. 9/10

Tangled - 8.5-9/10 - I loved this movie! This was my first time watching it. I don't have a lot of faith in the newer Disney films - I recently saw Frozen and, I have to say, I think it was overhyped. Nothing about it made me love it. This film on the other hand.. wow, it had absolutely everything I loved about the Disney classic films.. Just with better graphics! Amazing! I loved the character of Rapunzel and I definitely need a Flynn Ryder in my life. I loved Max the horse as well as the chameleon Pascal. Made me laugh at times and sob! I would honestly recommend it to people who loved the old Disney Princess films
