So... is it still possible to register RugOMatic in this day and age? Archived 2013 pages of the tmog website suggest registration became free instead of ten dollars... but that doesn't really help when the website is mostly down, now does it? XP XD Any way to get access to the big rugs function?

Failing that: I don't really want it to make big rugs. I just like its ease of use for producing a base with four unique rotations and almost no behaviors, to be shaped to my liking (specifically, so far it's been the case that it's easier for me to handle for the specific use case of trying to produce objects that match the Steering Committee/beta behavior, because I don't have to sort through a bunch of existing bhavs while trying to make it match, and it'd already be four rotations, which most beta objects seem to be (instead of two rotations and two mirrored rotations, for instance)). But I think I could put up with the bhav thing if I didn't have to go through the hassle of frankensteining more rotations into an object every time (something I've done successfully but with a lot of hassle exactly once, for a one tile object). I could probably clone big rugs made in RugOMatic I already have from other creators, though as far as that goes I only have 3x3 (which I don't need) and 2x3 (which is useful for one thing I'm working with).

If there's no way to register RugOMatic to make some myself, are there four-rotation bases for literally anything in other sizes? (In particular, a 2x2 base with four rotations would be really useful right now.) The first places that came to mind for bases in my haven't-frequented-Sims-sites-since-early-2010s brain didn't have what I needed.

So, in regards to this, I figured since I just read something on the topic of this it makes sense to duplicate the info here:

The short version of the answer being "it'd be okay at this point to write a program that cracks Rug-O-Matic" (i.e. by either generating a valid key or some other way like replacing the serial number and license key where those are stored with a known valid serial/key pair). There are people who know how to do this but apparently there's not enough information around (or still around) for them to use to write such a patch/crack.

I've been interested in trying to get the full Rug-O-Matic. Sometime ago I spent a whole week trying to edit the hex code of the program to see if I could reverse-engineer the serial activation. I actually managed to get the program to show me the successful activation message, but the program didn't actually get activated.

Then I started searching for more info online and found a post Don Hopkins had made and I replied to it, but I heard he hasn't been active in the community, and because he didn't answer, I didn't insist.

I understand what he meant, we just need 1 single valid combination (serial number + license key) that the program accepts. Then we can create a BAT file that injects that combination into the registry and everyone can enjoy the full Rug-O-Matic!

I discovered that when the CTO forums were active, they had a post that compiled a list of valid combinations. Any person who has ever had a valid combination at some point, could be holding our key to finally activating this program.

With Don Hopkins himself having given us a free hand to patch Rug-O-Matic, someone with reverse-engineering skills might be able to crack it without a key combination. I tried it, but my skills are limited.

If some kind soul should ever share their key combination with us, I can make the BAT file for everyone.

Maybe I'm too fixated on that, LOL, I just think it's a great program and its history should be preserved.

This version of the Patch is only for those who the previous patch wasn't working for. If you have The Sims 1 Ultimate Collection / The Sims 1 Legacy Edition AND you are on Windows 10 / Windows 11, you don't need this update and the previous Patch must have already worked for you. This update is now also compatible with players who are on any other Windows version and also compatible with any other version of The Sims 1 (such as Deluxe Edition or if you installed The Sims pack by pack). RugOMatic ACTIVATION INSTRUCTIONS

1. First, make sure you already have both Transmogrifier and RugOMatic final versions installed. If you don't, download and install them from here:

*note: after installing both programs, make sure they are NOT open as you continue


2. Download the "RugOMatic_Patch_v1.1.zip" file from the Google Drive link at the end of this post to your desktop (or anywhere else you want)

3. Extract the file "patch_rugomatic_v1.1.bat" inside this zip file to any directory (you can delete it later after the patch is done)

4. Right-click the newly extracted "patch_rugomatic_v1.1.bat" and choose "Run as administrator"

5. If Windows gives you a popup window like "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?", click "Yes"

6. A new window opens and shows that the operations all completed successfully. Press any key and this window will close itself

7. If you have The Ultimate Collection or Legacy Edition, this should be enough for you. Open RugOMatic and check if it's already activated. If it is, you can stop here and enjoy RugOMatic. If not, continue with the following steps:

8. Extract the file "RugOMatic.exe" included in that zip file you downloaded from Google Drive to your desktop (in Step 2). This is a modified version of RugOMatic that makes it safe for players with different installation of The Sims (such as Deluxe Edition or if you installed The Sims pack by pack). But it's also safe for anyone else (to whom the BAT file alone may not have worked) and doesn't interfere in how the program behaves

9. On Windows, navigate to the following folder, where RugOMatic is installed by default (it will be one of the two, depending on your Windows version):

10. Find the file "RugOMatic.exe" and copy it somewhere safe. You can create a subfolder named "Backup" and just keep it there. Now you can always revert back to it if you want to

11. Move the modified "RugOMatic.exe" (the one you extracted from the zip in Step 8) to RugOMatic's installation folder (from Step 9)



Done. Next time you run RugOMatic, it'll already be fully activated. Remember to ALWAYS run RugOMatic "As Administrator"

Hi everyone, MamaSoul here! This is so exciting!! Thank you so much NanaWildflowers!! Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be working for me, as I still get the registration code box pop up, stating "Sorry, that registration code doesn't match your serial number". Not sure what I'm doing wrong here. I even uninstalled both programs, rebooted and reinstalled them. I got the pop up that the patch installed successfully, but... no big rug joy here, lol. Any help would be appreciated!

Did you put these numbers in as the registration and licence key?
RugOMatic's serial number will always be 5832748828445711599528 (just like yours and mine). The BAT also adds the key you shared with me (1978415670) . Also, use the patch. See if that helps. if not I'll PM CarlaO asking for help in this thread.

Please bear with me as I'm from Brazil so I speak English as a second language.

First, I need to know if you're on Windows 10 or Windows 11. I'm on Windows 10. The procedure could be different for Windows 11 but I believe this will work for you too.
Make sure both Transmogrifier 2.1.2 (final version) and RugOMatic 1.6 (final version) are already installed. From what you told me, they are already installed, right?


Let's analyze the symptoms:

- you told me RugOMatic was already not working for you before
- RugOMatic is giving you an error message when you try to make a rug
- from the screenshot you uploaded, RugOMatic is telling you that the Registration Code is correct (and it shows the correct number you shared "1978415670"), which means the Patch is working and RugOMatic should be fully activated for you
- you told me you have The Sims Legacy Edition installed. I have The Complete Collection but I know that Legacy uses different installation directories, which may the be cause

RugOMatic uses Transmogrifier in the background, so we need to make sure Transmogrifier has the right directories (folders).


1. Set Installation Folder on Transmogrifier
1.1. On Windows, go to the following folder:

1.2. Right-click the file "Transmogrifier.exe" and choose "Run as administrator"

1.3. Windows will show a message asking "Do you want to allow this app... [etc...]" choose "Yes"

1.4. Once Tmog is open, at the top of its window, on the right, click the button "About The Sims Transmogrifier..."

1.5. A new window opens, click the button "Set Sims Install Path"

1.6. Navigate to the folder where The Sims Legacy is installed for you. This folder will be located differently if you installed the game via EA App, Steam or Epic Game. It should be one of these:

1.7. Select the file "Sims.exe" and click "Open". Then click "OK" and close Transmogrifer.


2. Run RugOMatic as Administrator and Set Output Folder
Make sure you always open RugOMatic as Administrator. I have a feeling this is probably the cause of this error.

2.1. On Windows, go to the following folder:

2.2. Right-click the file "RugOMatic.exe" and choose "Run as administrator"

2.3. Windows will show a message asking "Do you want to allow this app... [etc...]" choose "Yes"

2.4. Once RugOMatic is open, click the "Configure" button

2.5. A new window opens, the first thing it says is "Output Folder". Click the button "Change Folder"

2.6. Navigate to your "Downloads" folder (where you install Mods and CC). Then click the button "Open".

2.7. Just above that "Change Folder" button, you should now see the path to your "Downloads" folder. Make sure it has "RugOMatic\" in front of it, if it doesn't, copy and paste it there. It should look like this:

*note: [path to Legacy installation] will be different if game was installed via EA App, Steam or Epic Game. Let me know if you need help finding it

Now click the button "OK".

2.8. Try to make a rug using 'Rug Style' "4x4 Rug" (this way we can make sure both RugOMatic and the Patch are working for you, since 4x4 is only for the Registered Version).


If this works, please let me know, I'm 99% sure it's why you had that error.

Did you also download and use the patch?
Also, make sure you have the latest version of both Tmog and Rugomatic installed.

Thanks for the good luck wish! Yes, everything checks out, so I think it must be the different serial number I have. I briefly looked into the bat file (under right click, edit), but I'm not clear on what to do with it, so I'll wait patiently in case anyone does happen to have that info.

Something that interests me: My own T-mog installation does not ALREADY have a registry key listing its serial number (the number that the bat adds to try to manipulate the RugOMatic serial). I haven't used the patch but I'm wondering if that could dictate whether or not it works, or if T-mog NEVER has this key but understands it if added.

Oh, thank you so much! I really appreciate you taking time to do that for me! Hopefully a workaround can be found but if not, that's ok. I've been having a blast reacquainting myself with Tmog and even just basic recoloring. It's been so long, and I've missed it!

Tmog stores its Serial Number inside Windows' registry. It is not visible anywhere inside Tmog, the only way to access it is through Regedit. You can check my tutorial below if you want to see it. Yes, Tmog's Serial Number will directly dictate whether or not the Patch works, because RugOMatic calculates its own serial number based on Tmog's. The Patch is safe to use and easy to revert (by uninstalling and re-installing these programs) if you decide to try it.



It looks like the Patch isn't adding the numbers where they need to be, specifically Tmog's serial number. I think the most probable reason is that maybe you didn't run the BAT file "As Administrator". This is important otherwise Windows might not let the BAT add the numbers to the registry. I recommend you download the Patch again (the BAT file), extract it from the ZIP, right-click it and and "Run as administrator". Wait till the Patch shows the successful message and try running RugOMatic (also As Administrator) again to see if it works. Refer to my original post above (the one where I shared our Patch) for a step-by-step guide.

Remember to ALWAYS run RugOMatic (or Tmog) "As Administrator" anytime you want to use either program or they won't function properly.
Also, make sure both your Tmog and RugOMatic are the last versions (download links provided in my original post as well).

TUTORIAL: How to Manually Activate RugOMatic (without using the Patch)

Follow these steps carefully and you will do exactly the same thing the BAT file does, except with this method you won't need the BAT.


1. On Windows, open the "Start" Menu (located in your Taskbar) and just type:

3. The "Registry Editor" window opens. At the top of the window (just below the menu where you can select File / Edit / View / etc.) you will see a bar with an address to some directory. Copy and paste the following address there (replacing the address that was already there) and hit "Enter":

That should most probably work for you, but if it doesn't, open Regedit again (step 1 of this tutorial) and go to Tmog's Serial location (step 3) and check if the number 1740948824551711527614 is still there (as it should be).

No, I understand that. I'm saying I looked in the registry where it appeared the entry would be saved if I ran the patch and I don't appear to have a registry entry with my *current* T-mog serial. I only have entries for install path, Sims install path, and magic cookie. It confuses me is all. 🤔 It also was one reason I hadn't yet run the patch, because I wasn't sure if it would work if my T-mog isn't getting its serial from a registry entry.



(By comparison, my RugOMatic keys list the LICENSE (blank) among them as expected.)
