11/25/18 UPDATE!!! Version 3
I'm not sure what patch broke this mod, but it is now fixed! Sometime in the past year EA added variance to the life stage lengths which is what broke V2, but I threw that out the window! Age lengths are still the same as the original mod. ALSO, please note that this mod only works with new households! I know, it's a bummer, but I don't know of any work-arounds. Something I haven't tried that may work however, is uploading your family to the gallery, and then adding then back into the game after updating the mod.
As well, if anyone has some preferred overhauls for sim lifespan, please let me know and I'd be more than happy to add other versions of the mod! (also gonna try to see if I can make a config file so ya'll can just set your preferred ages)
11/30/17 UPDATE!!! Version 2
Updated this mod to be compatible with Cats & Dogs/The New Patch. I'm not really sure what changed the XML files, but alas they were changed around. So now this mod edits a few more resources, but nonetheless I figured it out and had updated it.
Hey guys! This is the first mod I've made for TS4 and I would like to share it with you!
Description:
When I got TS4, I was disappointed to find out there was no lifespan sliders! I've struggled with the short adulthood; and after awhile of using other people's mods (and straight up turning auto-aging off), I decided it was time to create my own lifespan mod!! (sorry for all the !!!'s, I'm just very exited!!!)
Details:
Without further ado, here are the adjusted ages:
(Stage: Maxis Normal Lifespan Days --> My Normal Lifespan Days)
Baby: 3 --> 2 (unplayable/limited interactions=boring)
Toddler: 7 --> 8 (funnest life stage to play)
Child: 13 --> 15 (more time to do things other than complete aspiration)
Teen: 13 --> 10 (pretty much an adult but more school and less woohoo)
Young Adult: 20 --> 25 (a good time also the creator of a success future)
Adult: 20 --> 48 (gotta have time to raise those babies)
Elder: 10 --> 24 (what to do with all this spare time)
Under the cut is just me explaining my choices. Only read if you care to know

Under the cut is just me explaining my choices. Only read if you care to know
My ages are not based on a real-life digit (I added them above for visualization), or a multiplier of the Maxis ages, but simply what I thought needed to be adjusted based on my play preferences. I love to make large, generational families when I play The Sims, so the lifespan of my sims is really import. My biggest issue with the Maxis ages was the length of the Adult stage; that's really where all of my problems start. Most of my sims tend to have around 4 children (my obsession with children started in TS3, where the mother was constantly pregnant and the first perk I chose for both parents was fertility, which made generations of 20ish children each. I have since calmed down), which is super difficult with these presets. In total, sims are only in their young adult/adult stage for 40 days, which makes it impossible for your sim to raise a child before they become an elder; since the child becomes a young adult after 36 days, plus 3 days of being inside mummy's tummy. And since I (and many others) like to use the Young Adult stage to try new things, make relationships, secure some simoleans, and play match-maker, that gives only 20/36(+3 for pregnancy!) days left to raise your children as an adult! Not to mention kicking the bucket within 10 days after becoming an Elder, leaving your teen orphaned for at least 9 days! How neglectful!!
With my tweaks, sims now become young adults after 35 days, which is only 1 day less than Maxis but leaves your parent sim 13 more days to, say, have more kids! And after they're all done poppin' 'em out, and rasin' 'em, they get (hopefully) 15 extra days to spoil their grandchildren they usually would never get to meet.
Babies: This one is pretty self explanatory. Babies suck in TS4. You can age them up instantly through interaction, so this one really didn't need to be tweaked, but I did it solely to make sure they age up in 2 days without doing it too soon, or forgetting to. I was tempted to make it only 1 day since the arrival of toddlers (I used to stare longingly at my inanimate screaming bassinet, telling myself that this was okay, and that if I waited the 3 days, it would fulfill my need for toddlers), but I sort of enjoy the anticipation it brings--waiting for this depressing object to transform into an adorable bundle of emotions--so I changed it to 2.
Toddlers: Man, oh man, do I love toddlers. I would honestly have traded TS4 teen stage for these guys. I also would have made this life stage longer if they could get in and out of highchairs on their own, or be fed on the floor (mod for the future?). Honestly though, this update really pulled me back into the game; and I'm only mad about the EXTENSIVELY over-waited addition because I was forced to play without these amazing creatures for over two years. Oh, and don't even get me started on the the new buymode items (which were above and beyond what I would have expected)!!!! SO anyways, these guys definitely aided in messing up the Maxis lifespan, but it was worth it since it has been such a great addition. Raising toddlers is incredibly fun. They're also fairly self-sufficient which is especially nice in bigger households (love the fact that they can pretty much sleep straight through the night, aside from the occasional super low need needing care). It's a great life stage for creating a bridge to who this sim is really going to be; so it's only fair to give the kid time to do that! 8 days is plenty of time to get all toddler skills (love the unique skills!!!!!) to at least 3, and usually max them all out (wishing parents could take more family leave to help with this ((another future mod?))).
Children: Kid stage is cool! (The rest of these won't be as ramble-y as toddlers, btw). But really, it was executed a lot better in this game compared to the others. Having their own child aspirations, and unique skills (also love!!) makes doing 'kids' stuff worthwhile and rewarding. Toddler skills play a big role here two, since each skill (aside from potty) feed into the child skills, which allows for faster child aspiration fulfillment, and in turn, making them more dynamic! 10 days really pushes it in terms of maxing an aspiration (especially ones that can take more time, like social), so adding 5 days adds 50% more time to do things other than grind away at one skill.
Teens: So, I don't hate the teens, but I honestly could care less for them. They're pretty much indistinguishable from adults, aside from the fact that they go to school. I made this stage shorter than the child stage because really, in real life, you're considered a child for longer than you're considered a teen. And because they're pretty boring, which tends to lead to skill grinding, since there's not much else for them to do.
Young Adults: This is where your sims life really starts to take shape. This is the true grind stage. In this stage I mainly work to increase job performance--which bids money for aduldhood--create a friend circle, and find the one. Mostly it's just for setting your sim up for success. I added 5 days to give the sim a little extra time to figure everything out, before they have to face reality. Money also plays a part in this, since if they spend a lot of time in their young adulthood with only one sim income, they may not have a lot saved to economically support the addition of children to the home.
Adults: AS I EXPLAINED ABOVE, YOU CANNOT RAISE A SIM IN 20 DAYS. I more than doubled this life stage for VERY obvious reasons. Adult sims are the most important sims in the game, and they need time to be the best that they can be. This is the stage for creating a family. For your sim to finally "try for a baby". For raising their children and seeing them off as they become young adults. There's really not much to say about them, except that in every sims game the Adult life stage has always been extremely too short (at least for my liking). THEY JUST NEED MORE TIME.
Elders: They're really not important, and fairly painful to play, but they are a key component in generational game play. So let's just take a moment to process the fact that these fragile being only had a MAXIMUM of 10 days to coddle their grand-babies. Good luck even meeting grandma before the kicked the bucket! They now get more time to be invited over for no reason, or take up an extra room in their offspring's home.
