Mod Info

This mod requires Mono Patcher by LazyDuchess!

Desiree's Community Mailbox mod is required in order for mailboxes to work on community lots and to receive bills on them!

• This mod was built and tested with game version 1.69, but should work with v.1.67 as well.
• What type of mod is this? - This a script mod that replaces several game functions to allow sims in the active household to live in different houses, and adds a new scripted object.
• Where does the mod go? - This mod can go in your packages folder, but it's recommended for it go into overrides as it replaces parts of the game's code.
• Translations - This mod is currently only supported in English.

What is it and how does it work?

This mod allows sims and pets in the active household (or inactive ones) to live in different homes and community lots around the world, without returning to the main house. By default, sims will always live in the household's main house, but with the Sim Home Marker, you can place it down on either owned private lots, unowned houses or community lots and assign any sim or pet within the town to the marker, making the lot that the marker is on their home. If you want the sim to live back in the main house or to another, simply remove the sim assigned to it or assign them to another house directly.

It's useful if you like to control multiple households at once, or have a specific sim you want to move out but not remove entirely from the household.

You can stay over at a friend's house for a few days, or have them come over to your own!

This mod allows sims (active or inactive) to come and babysit babies and toddlers, and also introduces a new interactive daycare system that you can send children to instead of hiring a babysitter.

If you have NRaas GoHere, this mod will override the babysitter and caregiver code making the Caregiver settings from it obsolete.

Mod Guide

I'd highly recommend reading Desiree's guide on using the mod, as it has in depth explanations about all of the features and different ways of playing with it! "Using Expanded Active Households/Home mod"

Home Assignments

To have a sim live in a different lot without severing ties to their current one, simply place down a home lot marker on the desired lot and assign the sim through it. You can then direct them to go home and they'll go to the new lot.

Notes:

A new interaction has been added to all beds and home/daycare lot markers to send all sims living on the lot to go to bed.

Inactive sims can now be assigned to different lots, but they will no longer be pushed to go out to community lots, however they should continue to go to work/school.

You can now assign bed ownerships to any sim (and sims within the active household) who is living on the lot with the bed. The active selected sim must be living on the lot too though, unless you change the setting to allow any sim to assign bed ownerships regardless of if they live on the lot.

All new sims and pets added to the household (either through birth, moving in or adoption) by default will have their homes set to the main household home.

Fridge inventories and family funds are shared between all expanded households except for inactive sims, who will continue to use their own household funds.

When assigning a sim to a new lot, you will need to switch to another sim then back again to see the go home arrow on their portrait.

In order for the green home icon to show up on the sim's lot when that sim is selected, you will need to reset the lot using NRaas Master Controller. You will also need to do this in order for carpools, school buses and services to route to the new lot instead of the main home lot!

Services (except for adoption) such as ordering pizza work for each expanded household, so it will be delivered to the house of the sim who ordered. Same thing applies for throwing parties. Sims will also return to their corresponding homes when they finish work/school.

Multiple households can be assigned to one lot, so your sims can live with other inactive sims or vice versa.

Sims that don't live in the main house won't be able to visit it during night time hours, but you can still direct them to use things within the home and they will be able to enter anyway. Unlike sims outside of the active household, they won't be forced to go outside of the home after a long time or if the sims living on that lot leave.

You can have sims living on community lots, but you will need a mod such as Buzzler's Builder Stuff to place objects down that normally are not allowed on community lots. I'd also recommend getting Desiree's Community Lot Mailbox and Open Family Inventory mods to go with this mod.

The home marker can be placed on unowned empty house lots, but in order to access it you should place it outside first.

Items in the family inventory cannot be placed on lots other than the main active home or owned properties that don't have any sims living in, unless you have a sim selected who is living on the main home lot and you enter build/by mode by shift clicking the expanded lot, which then you can place down stuff. It currently does not work on unowned lots that sims live on.

The home marker can be placed in sims' inventories, but in order to interact with it, it has to be outside of the inventory.

Visits and Stayovers

To start a stayover, go your sim's phone and either invite a sim that your sim knows to come and stay, or ask to stay at their house. You'll then choose the duration of the stay and the sim(s) will make their way to the host's home.

Notes:

Sims will always accept invitations, but if they are at work/school then they will arrive once they've finished.

You can cancel a visit/stayover at any time through the phone or a social interaction.

When a sim stays over at another sim's house, their home lot will be temporarily assigned as the host's home for the duration, so they can eat, shower and sleep without it being inappropriate.

If a sim has been assigned a bed ownership and they have a stayover, their previous bed ownership will be saved and re-assigned once they come back.

Custom Babysitters

Any sim can now be a babysitter for your sim's children, as long as they know eachother. To ask a sim to babysit, select a sim on the phone and you'll be asked for the duration, as well as the price you'll be charged. If a sim is good friends with the other sim, you won't have to pay them, unless they're a teenager.

Notes:

If a sim is on your sim's home lot, you can ask them directly to babysit without calling them on the phone.

You can dismiss a babysitter at any time through the phone or a social interaction.

Inactive relatives of a baby or toddler are able to care for them without you asking them to.

If you don't provide a good pay for a sim who you aren't friends with or if they're a teenager, they might just refuse to babysit.

Once a sim finishes babysitting, they will head back home, but if no sims have come home yet then they will continue babysitting and you will have to pay them for the overtime if they're getting paid for it.

This mod adds in a fix for EA babysitters as well as custom ones where they will always take care of babies and toddlers even while the camera isn't focused on the lot, which previously they didn't.

If you have the Baby Carrier mod installed, this mod will fix the babysitter pop-ups appearing when trying to travel to different lots/rabbitholes while carrying a baby/toddler in the carrier.

There's a new setting in the mod to completely eliminate the need for babysitters/caregivers. Keep in mind that with this setting on, babies and toddlers will no longer attend daycare.

Interactive Daycares

Using the new daycare lot marker object, you can assign a lot as a daycare and set up a shift for it. You'll be able to choose the staff members, days open, opening time, closing time, and wage. If the game detects a daycare in the world that is open, any inactive baby or toddler will be sent there if their parents or guardians are not around. For active babies and toddlers, you will be given a choice to call a babysitter, send them to daycare or stay on the lot with them.

Notes:

Babies and toddlers that are sent to daycare will be properly taken care of, including active children.

You can bring a baby, toddler or child to daycare by clicking on the lot, or directly teleport them there using the phone service. If you do choose to take them there physically, a sim will only be able to carry 1 baby/toddler and if any more are chosen they will be teleported (unless they are being carried, in which they will be taken there physically too). Once they arrive on the lot, they will then route to the daycare lot marker and put the baby down and return to their previous lot.

If you take a baby or toddler to a daycare lot and you have the Hand Over Babies/Toddlers mod, your sims will try and hand over their child to a caregiver.

The price of sending a baby/toddler to daycare is 45 simoleons per child, but if you decide to take them there yourself you will only be charged 35.

Once the daycare closes, all children remaining on the lot will be teleported home. Sometimes they won't immediately go home if they're in a crib or highchair, but the game will try and push them to teleport home again after an hour.

Multiple shifts can be set up for a daycare lot, but only 1 shift can be set per marker.

Daycare staff members will switch into their career outfits before arriving at the daycare to start their shift. You'll have to design the outfit yourself, but there's a setting to disable changing into career outfits if you're not a fan of it.

If you place down a lot in the word with the intention of it being a daycare lot, you must leave the game unpaused for a second for the interactions on the lot to appear.

It's recommended to only have 1 daycare lot per world. You can assign active sims as staff members, but because it's not an actual career, it's mainly intended to assign inactive sims as caregiver staff.

Bill Room Markers

With the addition of paying bills on other expanded home lots, you can also set down bill room markers so any contents within the room will count toward the bills, and anything outside of it will not. This is good for apartments, community lot living or a situation of living in a shared house with other inactive sims.

Notes:

You need Desiree's Community Mailbox mod in order for mailboxes to work on community lots and to receive bills on them here

These interactions can only be accessed in build/buy mode by shift + alt + clicking on the marker.

The markers will disappear once in live mode. They can also be set to invisible in build/buy mode through an interaction on the home lot marker.

By default the active household will be set to the bill room marker, but if there are other sims living on the lot you can assign their household to the marker instead.

You can have as many bill room markers as you want on the lot, but only put down 1 per room unless you want to be paying double for the contents of the room!

Placing a marker outside will count everything that is outside in the lot.

Sim Needs Manager

Adds a set of new interactions that control the needs of the selected sims. You can have them eat, brush their teeth, go to bed, take a bath/shower or use the bathroom. This can be used on active sims, but the main purpose is to use them on inactive sims when they come for a stayover or if they're in a daycare.

Notes:

These interactions can only be accessed on the home lot marker or the daycare lot marker.

Uninstalling

It is safe to uninstall the mod without removing assigned sims, they will simply revert back to living in the main active home. Please remember to clear your cache files after uninstalling. You should make sure to remove all existing daycare shifts and situations (stayovers, babysitting) before uninstalling too.

Conflicts & Known Issues

This mod overrides the following interactions, methods and properties, and will conflict with any other mod that does so too:

- Do not save a lot in edit town when you don't have an active family selected. It will lead to an infinite loading screen.

- Because sims who visit other expanded household lots will not be forced to go outside after a while or when it's the middle of the night, they will remain at that house until directed to go back home or if they are in severe motive distress.

- For some users the house marker will only display the Give Name interaction. It is unknown as to why it happens, but please try removing all other mods and cc if this occurs.

- Sometimes a sim's car will get stuck in their inventory, if this happens, use NRaas MC to sort through their inventory, which should fix the car.

No other known issues were found!
